Poor Image: Characters.Final Fantasy VII Playable Characters

A lot of these images in the character folders don’t have a good view of the characters’ faces, and they aren’t full body portraits.

I suggest that the character folders all use Final Fantasy VII’s original artwork, (like this) because they don’t have the issues that the current images do. Plus they look nicer.

Zack’s an exception. Since he dosent have artwork for the PS 1 original, his Crisis Core artwork will have to do. (This works nicely)

I don't really have any issue with the current pics, they all look fine. Not like their faces are hidden in any of them.

Character pics don't have to be full-body, in fact, a lot of the time full-body pics mess with the examples list, either by squishing it or extending way past the examples.

The suggestion for Zack's image, in particular, strikes me as a lateral change. Sure you can see his face better, but the Buster Sword is way more prominent than in the current.

The original character art does look better and is far more iconic than the current Advent Children ones, and is much more fitting to use the OG design than the ones from the side movie.

Not sure what to do with Zack. Either current or suggestion are both fine.

I don't like full-body images for character illustrations, to be honest, and I don't particularly like the art style of the original game's artwork, so I say keep the current(s).

I think we could crop them if they end up messing with the formatting of the pages.

I prefer the art style of the Advent Children pics, too. I just think it looks better, plus it's consistent with basically all other FF7 media.

The current images could maybe use quality upgrades and be less closely cropped, but are otherwise fine. While not a dealbreaker, it's worth noting that Cloud's artwork is used on BFS:

to the swap, barring other suggestions. I'm not a fan of the cloudy grey overlay on any of them, but Cid, Barret and Vincent are especially bad in terms of showing almost nothing of their faces. And just generally, I'd rather use iconic original art than promo images from a spinoff movie.

I'm fine with swapping to the OG art.

x2 It'll be super easy to find a replacement for BFS.

You say "iconic", I say "overused". I prefer the current images.

The BFS image has an admin note saying not to change it, though this isn't a huge deal since FastEddie isn't in charge anymore.

I think the current pics are really awful, using the official OG art seems like a no-brainer. The current images aren't high quality, have an ugly greyish filter and all characters are in weird poses.

The official OG art has them all in central shots, prominently feature all aspects of their designs, are all wearing their iconic outfits (and not the ones they wear in a single movie spin-off) and are bursting with their personality. Just compare Official Cid art of him giving a shit-eating grin with Lifeless AC Cid sitting sadly in a corner moping◊.

Using OG art would also be more consistent since Cait Sith has no AC image of his own.

I kinda prefer OG art as well. They do have more personality and are higher quality. The fact that Cait Sith has no official AC art, yeah, that's also a valid concern. I don't think the full body OG art would extend past the example list either, since these example lists are fairly long (would probably be longer if the page was finally unlocked, but that's life). Also, since we've swapped VideoGame.Final Fantasy VII to it's iconic boxart and VideoGame.Final Fantasy VII Remake would also have a reference to it as a pic, using OG art here and Characters.Final Fantasy VII Remake having its official artwork of modernised characters gives a same comparison purpose.

So yeah, I'm for swapping to the original artwork.

I think we could also swap Sephiroth’s artwork to the OG art, though I think it would have to be cropped horizontally as his sword is so damn long.

That just leaves the question of what picture we use for Zack now.

P.S, how do image changes on locked pages work? Does an admin swap them in?

A mod swaps them in, which is what usually happens when Image Pickin' decides to replace an image anyway.

I do have to question about Ifalna's image, as the current image is from her Remake incarnation. Although Tetsuya's OG 7 concept design for her is near identical. (If we're going to stick with Ifalna's Remake design instead of, could her image be shrunk to 250 width?)

Also, the wiki coding of Ifalna and Shalua's profile pics - the "quoteright" - should be better moved to underneath the "Appears in" coding line on better consistency. For example, it'd match like Marlene and Denzel's entries. At the moment, Ifalna and Shalua's profile pics overlaps the "Voiced by" and "Appears in" subsections (well "Appears in" for Ifalna since she didn't had a VA). Could a mod revise those two?

Can I get more opinions?

People have been using the Remake concept arts for the Remake character page.

Anyhow, made a folder with all the OG art, as well as some Advent Children or Crisis Core outfit changes for some characters. In regards to Cloud and Tifa, they do have their official Dissidia render for the AC outfits that I think look better than the AC official promos. I added both in this folder, but I think we should pick one or the other.

Finally got around to crownering this one.

I'mma go ahead and call this one since the margin is so wide. I'm not going to have time to do the legwork on the pic swaps, though.
