Calling it "asscaps" is probably a thing that Eddie did back in the day. I don't know why.
As for that thing you discussed, that must have just been pushed as a style change. The intent was to break up the problem where AC entries would cause subsequent text to cram onto the same line. It's not supposed to force a line break, just not eat trailing line breaks.
Okay, after some experimentation, the intent is for the [AC] tag to function like a header tag (!, !!, etc). I don't think it was intended to be used inline. I could be mistaken, though.
Some Asscaps Text non-AC text
Some Asscaps Text non-AC text
Some Asscaps Text

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Yeah, I know it's new. Any way to fix it, or do I have to, say, go to each Complete Monster franchise page and see where that problem is?
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsI don't think that old way was ever intended, so fixing it would be useful. That said, I'll have a convo with the mod team to see if we should adjust the change.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Alright, there's a project for this weekend.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsWell, definitely fix the markup, but I'm going to have a discussion to see if [AC] should have any effect on line flow at all. If it's supposed to be treated as any other formatting markup (bold, italics, spoiler tags, etc.), then it shouldn't interact with line breaks one way or the other. If it's supposed to be a header markup, then it needs to act like ! or !!.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I've made posts in a couple other places, but I finally found this thread, so: AC markup often shows up in quotes. Discworld's Death is probably the most prominent, but there are plenty of other characters that are given the same treatment to demonstrate their speaking style. And it completely ruins the formatting. See Quotes.World Of Silence, second quote from the top.
I wholeheartedly agree with everyone who says the AC issue is screwing up quote formatting. I use it in quotes a fair bit for appropriate formatting.
It's also affecting non-quote entries as well. Something needs to be done.
do you hear the drums? It's also worth noting that SelfDemonstrating.G La DOS is completely ruined by this issue.
Yeah, the AC markup is used in a lot of places, usually for a specific effect like robotic voices, captions in works and the like. If this format change is going to stick around, there's going to be a ton of work needed to fix all the pages that use it.

I can't see a reason for the format change to stick around. I'm assuming this is an unintended bug that will get ironed out, not a "we decided to change how something works, have fun fixing thousands of pages."
I do have to offer a mea culpa here. The change was intentional, but based on an incorrect assumption about how the code should work. However, there were issues with the original markup that needed to be fixed. We'll get this patched ASAP.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"This is still causing problems over on the Doctor Who recap pages. The Daleks' and Cybermen's dialogue is commonly written in asscaps and it keeps adding a line break before the asscaps, which is causing a bit of a headache. Any news regarding this?
Not that we're aware of...to my knowledge, the admins that are actually involved with site coding have been tied up trying to improve some mod-only functions and this issue is decidedly less important. Once what they're working on is squared away, I'll try to get this moved up on the list of fixes.
Any update on this issue? Is it on the list, at least?
So no updates on this? There's still tons of pages that are complete messes thanks to the changes to the AC formatting.
I think for now it's going to be like the bibble bobbled crowners bug, something that can't be fixed until wiki development resumes.
So previously, it was, for example [[ac:Sherlock Holmes vs. Dracula]] [[ac:(OR:]] [[ac:The Adventures of the Sanguinary Count]][[ac:), by Loren D. Estleman]]
Which now shows up as
Sherlock Holmes vs. Dracula (OR: The Adventures of the Sanguinary Count), by Loren D. Estleman
And now all I have to do is, for example: [[ac:Sherlock Holmes vs. Dracula (OR: The Adventures of the Sanguinary Count), by Loren D. Estleman]]
Which shows up as:
Sherlock Holmes vs. Dracula (OR: The Adventures of the Sanguinary Count), by Loren D. Estleman
This is fine (I like this new way), but is there a way to make the old way also work, so we don't have to go through all the pages and correct that?
(Also, why's it called asscaps?)
