I actually really liked his family's weird totally fine with killing stance. In a weird way, it made them feel like their own characters.

Like, Jaime is a young, idealistic hero learning the ropes. Grandma in particular is in some ways an Experienced Hero which... well, clearly she's killed before. And not afraid to do it again.

They didn't feel like just an extension of the main character's beliefs and actions.

Definitely better than how some DCEU movies handled aversions to Thou Shalt Not Kill.^note For a fun game, figure out which movie I initially had in mind when I wrote this up.

... wasn't even in the first 3 I thought of.

I like to think the dceu is less a connected film verse and more a group of films loosely connected with how much changes from film to film

Gunn lists the inspirations for his take on Superman. All-Star Superman, Kingdom Come, Superman: The Animated Series, Phillip Kennedy Johnson’s run, Action Comics (New 52), Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?, Superman for All Seasons and the original Golden and Silver Age comics, to name a few.

Not really, no. There’s a ton of stuff not in there. Most notably not a lot in the way of the Byrne/post-Crisis era stuff. Or Geoff Johns.

I think he refers to the main essences of those Comics.

The inclusion of PKJ's run is notable since thats the one where Superman leads his own Authority team against Mongul to liberate Warworld.

I wonder if he might be setting up an eventual Superman and The Authority story.

The climactic final run of Flashpoint Paradox

Absolutely astonishing how much this is a better movie than the live-action Flash film.

It's Luke Green Lantern: First Flight is a better orgin movie than the live-action GL movie.

Speaking of Flash, saw an interview with Grant Gustin (I don't know if it was actually new or just new to me) where he said he'd always be open to talks with DC about The Flash or anything else they might pitch.

And apparently James Gunn recently said he'd love to work with him in the future on something.

All of which means nothing of course, but I've just been rewatching some clips of The Flash recently and reminiscing how good Grant is in the role (even if the material he had to work with was often of dubious quality)

Do you really want to tell me that heroes like Wonder Woman or Shazam can't beat some second-rate Doomsday clones?

And I know that many will argue that "It's not that Wonder Woman was weak, it's that the clones were strong", but in another scene it is shown that Batgirl can kill several using a metal stick.

Yes the power scaling is bad, this is the same movie where Bane, Black Manta, and Lady Shiva all die like chumps while Harley lives to the end despite having no survival instincts.

But thats not really important, Apokolips War's issues are it's own being made years after Flashpoint Paradox.

The hilarity being that Flashpoint Paradox manages to be a better film in its entirety than how Flash ended up.

Hell at least FP actually uses Thawne, meanwhile we have to be subjected to fucking bland evil future Flash instead of anyone interesting.

I mean power scaling is pointless anyways in my opinion. The characters are as powerful or talented as the writer wants them to be.

but you don't put your most powerful heroine losing against some second-rate doomsday's clones

or put god-level plot armor on Harley Quinn.

But you're right, someone needs to create a movie where Harley beats the Justice League.

Plus there's the obvious fact that the movie gave a sad ending to this world, just for shock value.

I actually liked RF not being in the Flash movie. The 'evil time traveler from the future is the murderer' keeps on making the theme of 'don't change the past' fall flat in Flashpoint since Barry's just trying to undo a change another time traveler made.

I didn't actually mind the "Barry is actually the Dark Flash" twist. It's just... the film doesn't really build up the Dark Flash as a villain. Barry meets him when he gets knocked into the alternate timeline, he has a couple of nightmares about him, then in the last 15 minutes of the movie it's revealed that it was Barry all along! Except, there's no real weight to it since the majority of the second act has been hyper-focused on stopping Zod, so the Dark Flash isn't really much of a presence in the film until that reveal.

I don't disagree that the badass normals did far too well (except perennial buttmonkey Nightwing) but the fight you're talking about ends with batgirl being mobbed and eaten.

Plus The League were ambushed and taken unaware in the first fight while the heroes have the imitative latter one.

Apokolops Wars is shite for the unnecessary gore, grimdark and Torch the Franchise and Run approach though.

So according to Deadline, Peacemaker’s second season will start filming this summer. Anyone still think Gunn will direct or is he gonna be busy with Superman?

I saw aquaman 2 and boy......this one kinda sucks.

the story is mostly fine even if at time it sen jumping and jumping between things, aquaman is annoying and I feel he become more of a annoying comical in the second movie to the point he rival ragnarok thor. Orn redemption is actually pretty good really and is borderline comical how amber head was sideline here, like you can notice how much the almost written her out, they could have killer for the same would matter. Finally Black manta feel...all right(there is a moment were he is sit with black trident and all I count think is he look like evil tchalla) but the fact he was posed kinda was a problem, I really would love the trench was actually show. Finally the doctor was nice, probably the best part of the movie

Finally and I will said the color and asthetic was....fucking terrible, you can feel their cut short a lot of budget, like black manta submarine feel more beling to a children cartoon and hell the movie have ver much spy kid vibe at times, it was whack, also the lost kindom have such a mordor/icecrown vibe it was hilarious

James Gunn posted on Threads some details about the new season of Peacemaker: namely that season one isn’t cannon any more, it will be set after Superman, it will film simultaneously with Superman, and he won’t be able to direct every episode.
