Like Magneto he hasn't been a straight villain in decades.
He's settled on Anti-Hero for the most part.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."At least when it is not bonded to Gargan. Because, ya know, eating people for kicks.
Even then Gargan was a Dark Avenger for most of his tenure as Venom.
So he was a still an Anti-Hero, just a very dark one.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."More a government thug, really.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAnti-Hero is pushing it-when you wind up as the Token Evil Teammate on those teams, you are just a villain with someone holding a gun to your head-which is what happened through most of Gargan's tenure.
Wait so is it Anti-Villain then?
What do you call someone who's evil but stuck doing sorta good stuff?
....... Huh wait that's the Suicide Squad.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Nominal Hero is a thing, after all.
Wake me up at your own risk.Cross posting from the box office and MCU threads:
Spider-Man: Far From Home finally scored $1 billion at the box office!
Now we can breathe easy that the next Spidey movie will be in the MCU.
Nice!^^ I wasn't ready for another reboot.
Get Elle Fanning as Gwen Stacy and I'll be willing to listen...
Actually, Phase 4 got announced and there's no trace of Spidey for next year or the year after.
Think this gives Marvel enough time to have Daredevil and Kingpin for the next Spider-Man movie?
There wouldn't be. They'd have needed to start work on Spider-Man 3 about a year ago to have it ready by 2020/2021. Given that the rights were even in this perilous position to begin with, there was no way Marvel Studios would start scripting, casting, and shooting a film before it's even officially greenlit.
Imagine being halfway through shooting when Sony goes, "Far From Home didn't make a billion. No more Marvel Spider-Man movies! We're rebooting!"
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Spider-Gwen is something they should absolutely do if we are finally getting the multiverse concept. And since she dimension hops all the time and spends a lot of her super hero hours in other universes, she would be an excellent gateway into the multiverse itself.
That depends on what kind of multiverse we're talking about.
Technically, Dr. Strange already introduced a multiverse. But it's the "Weird eldritch alien dimensions" sort. A "multiverse" in the sense of places like the Dark Dimension or Mephisto's Hell or the Astral Plane is not the same thing as a "multiverse" in the sense of Earth-616, Earth-1610, Earth-999999 (Hi, MCU!), etc.
Mysterio introduced the latter form of multiverse but he was a lying liar who lies.
Dr. Strange's upcoming film has "Multiverse of Madness" in the title, but the "of Madness" part might just mean we're getting more freaky eldritch realms, not parallel Earths.
At this point, I think the big one to watch out for is the upcoming Loki series. If anyone's going to introduce an alternate Earths multiverse, that's going to be it.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.The new Doctor Strange title gave me the idea. If that is our introduction, then Strange can provide the Cosmic, high level viewpoints, while Spider-Gwen could provide the street level view, both for ordinary people and all the supers who do not make the cut for the big teams.
Btw, the MCU is 199999, not 999999.

I know the villain of Dr. Strange 2 is supposed to be Nightmare, but that title really makes me think of Shuma Gorath.
Also, I still want a Spidey / Dr. Strange film.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Hey that's another easy tell Beck was lying - he got the MCU's reality number wrong.
Assuming even the writers were geeky enough to know that, of course.
Eh, Spider Gwen could also work if she pulls a resurrection akin to her Ultimate counterpart.
Also, JJJ, IIRC, is now in the comics an ally. It took a heart to heart after Peter unmasked on purpose in front of him, but, well, he's got his back, or at least tries.
Venom, well, not a straight villian, people like them as an anti-hero, and, again, both parts made ammends with Peter IIRC. To the point of Eddie LENDING Peter the symbiote, and the resulting Spider-Venom having both individuals caring for each other but not trying to overextend it.
(I quite liked Go Down Swinging, would even be neat to adapt, but requires at least a trilogy of buildup).
Was there really a deal between Marvel and Sony, that if a spidey film doesn't make a billion, Marvel loses the film rights?
With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationThe way the alleged deal worked was that if Far From Home makes a billion dollars, Marvel automatically gets to retain the rights and make a third Spider-Man movie. If it does not, control reverts back to Sony.
Note that this does not mean, in the latter scenario, that there wouldn't be a third Spider-Man movie. Nothing would have stopped Sony and Marvel from renegotiating a new deal. Nowhere in the alleged deal does it say "If the movie fails to make a billion dollars, Sony HAS TO reboot the franchise."
It's just a qualifier for automatic renewal. And Far From Home qualified, so that's the end of that.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Assuming even the writers were geeky enough to know that, of course.
But from the characters perspective, how would he know? We know it as universe 19999 because we are outside it and have writers who just say what the objective number of the universe is, but how on earth would you figure out the number of a universe from inside it?
Heck, the tell was that somehow, he gave the newer universe (from his perspective) the lower number.
Its a tell for the audience, not the characters.
As well as, you know, the name.
He's a violent antihero. Not unlike the role he's played in the many Venom comics Marvel's printed.
