Recap 1:
You are Steph the Human, and you are an average high school student. With graduation so close you can touch it, you've been struggling to make it through finals week. With your birthday not far behind, you've been making plans with your friends in preparation. Your life is a precarious balancing act.
As well, you've been having strange dreams recently. In the first, you were an ancient Aztec farmer, going about your daily life, when your friend Eztili was suddenly chosen for a ritual sacrifice. Though unable to save her, she revealed herself as a figure from your real-life past - your old friend Aerith, who you haven't seen since the fourth grade.
In your most recent dream, you took the role of a recurring character from past dreams - Detective Snappyname, a brilliant detective with the power to speak to ghosts, solving cases in a crazy ridiculous post-apocalypse world. You were investigating the death of an all-powerful god machine when you discovered your friend Aerith was involved in its death.
You always seem to wake up before you can properly talk to her.

But for now, those dreams are in the back of your mind. You're unwinding from a long day of arduous finals by attending a blues rock concert with your friends. The place is pretty chill; large enough to hold a small crowd but with enough room for you and your friends to hang out peacefully. At the front of the room is of course the stage, where the band is covering a classic. At the back of the room is a bar selling various drinks, but your friend has smuggled some of his own in, and you're too young to purchase them anyways.

Well, you're not dreaming. But you let the music pass over you. You smile softly as you feel the notes flow through your body. You start to dance.
"What's this?" Tabitha smiles.
"He's already feeling it," Bob smirks.
"If by 'it,' you mean the music," you smile back, taking them both by the hand. "Come on!"
"Oh noo..." Tabitha complains, but nonetheless you drag both of them onto the dance floor.

You start singing along. It's a really good song. The author doesn't know any blues rock songs unfortunately so you will just have to use your imagination.
Regardless, you feel the music brimming in your heart as you sing along and dance with your friends. You have a good time, laughing and singing and drinking together.

Before you know it, you've had, like, five beers. You drop your bottle, but instead of hitting the floor, it remains floating in the air, not that you really notice it.
"Guys, guys," you smirk lazily at your friends as you put your arms around them. They smile at each other; Bob with a knowing look, Tabitha more nervously.
"Let's..."

Bob smirks from ear to ear. "Hell yeah! Let's do it!"
"W-wait, guys," Tabitha calls out, but Bob is already pulling you blissfully along.
Before you know it, he's snuck you into the green room. You don't really remember how you got there. You can still hear the band playing, you heart pumps along with the muffled beat of the drums. The place is pretty nice, nothing super high-class, but it has a chill atmosphere.
"This is awesome," you smile, slumping down on the couch. "I wanna do this every day."
You move along to the music in your seat, letting the notes flow through your veins.
"Ooh, he's got it bad," Bob chuckles.
"Guys, this is so not okay," Tabitha says. Huh, you didn't notice when she got here. "What if we get in trouble?"
"You need to relax," Bob says, taking a seat next to you. "It's not that big a deal. We'll be out before the concert's over. Just sit down and enjoy the music."
Tabitha still seems nervous, but takes a seat next to you anyways.
God, you feel good. Your brain feels a little fuzzy, and your limbs a little heavy, but goddamn, if it doesn't feel fucking nice.
You wish you could sit here and listen to the music forever.

Well, you're not dreaming, you think. You're pretty sure dreaming feels different. You don't think you're quite awake, though. Not fully, at least.
You smile softly as you feel the notes flow through your body. You start to dance.
"Whooo, yeah, go Steph!" Bob cheers you on. "Go Steph! It's your birthday! We gonna party like it's your birthday!"
Yeah, you're really feeling it. You know it's not your birthday, but the thought is pretty funny. You crack a goofy smile as you continue your little dance.
Tabitha just looks on nervously.

"Guys," you smile, putting an arm around each of your friends and hugging them close. "Guys."

Your eyes suddenly brim up with tears. You cast your head down, struggling to keep it in, but it doesn't work. You start to sob.
"Whoa, hey hey hey hey," Tabitha murmurs, putting her own arm around you. "Hey hey, it's okay. What's wrong?"
"I told you you shouldn't have let him drink so much," she snaps quietly at Bob.
"Sorry...."
You continue to sob as you put your hand down your collar and take out Aerith's good luck charm, staring at it longingly. Bob looks away solemnly.
"I-I need to... f-f-find Aerith," you studder between sobs.
"Ssshhshhh, it's okay, it's okay," Tabitha brings your head up to her chest, rubbing your back affectionately. "It's okay. That's your friend from fourth grade, right?"
You nod. "I-I need to find her... I miss her so much."
Red hot tears burn against your skin as you bury your face in her shoulder.
"It's okay, it's okay," she assures you. "You'll find her again someday."
You sniff. "She's been calling out to me, I think. In my dreams."
"Huh?!" Bob and Tabitha question at once.
The lamp in the corner falls to the ground and shatters.

You try to make sense of your surroundings. How much time has passed? What are you doing now? You're in the green room. But weren't you just in the concert hall? No, no, that was like an hour ago. Or maybe thirty minutes. It's hard to keep track of time like this.
"Are you okay, Steph?" Tabitha asks you.
You are Steph the Human, and you are in the green room, crying over your friend Aerith. You know this much.

"D-do you have any water?" you ask.
"Yeah. Bob, get him a water."
Bob shuffles through your coat before pulling out a bottle of water. You remove yourself from the safety of Tabitha's arms and immediately pour the water onto your face.

"I'm never getting drunk again," you mutter.
"Probably a good idea," Tabitha agrees. "But what was that about your friend Aerith, and your dreams?"
"Uhhh... It-it was nothing. Just a silly thought." Now that you're thinking a little more clearly, you realize how ridiculous it would sound if you tried to explain that. Although....
Bob is still staring at the broken lamp.
"Hey, Steph," he says. "Do you remember the day Aerith left?"
You nod. "Yeah. It still doesn't feel like it's been that long."
"It was your birthday, right? Do you remember anything weird about that day?"
You think. You were like, eight or nine at the time, so your memory is admittedly pretty foggy. But something about what he's saying, and about the broken lamp, rings a bell.
