@WillKeaton: Oddly enough, Fang, a tyrannosaur, is around the size of a real-life Ceratosaurus, whereas the horned theropods are around the size of (and in the case of the alpha, even bigger than) a real-life Tyrannosaurus rex.

Okay, I get that the mammoths wanted to bring One-Tusk, or part of him, to the graveyard, but they had an entire corpse there that they just abandoned. If one of the pack dies outside the graveyard is it typical for them to rip off one of the tusks and take that to the graveyard instead?

[up][up]Perhaps it's to make her more heroic?

[up] The entire carcass is likely too large for them to carry.

I'm not saying they could have carried the entire carcass, I'm saying that they could have taken any body part they wanted to and taken that part to the graveyard. But they went specifically after the tusk, which would imply that the tusk is important to them in some way.

[up][up][up][up]Or it could be a case of Bizarre Sexual Dimorphism. The villainous tyrannosaurs are larger, horned males, Fang is a smaller, horn-less female.

[up]Yes, it's possible that the tusk has some kind of spiritual relevance to mammoths. I was more surprised that the vast majority of bones in the graveyard were full skeletons.

The fact that there were so many complete skeletons seems to imply that the mammoths go there when they're near death. There are stories about that in real life, but I'm not 100% sure that's a thing real life elephants do, or if it's been embellished. It actually makes me wonder if the tribe was headed to the graveyard at the start of the episode, specifically because One-Tusk was going to die soon. But, if that's the case, they kind of dropped the ball by walking so fast he couldn't keep up, which led to him getting lost.

The Elephant Graveyard is largely a myth, made up by ivory hunters. Full elephant skeletons are rare to find in the wild, because the living elephants carry the bones of the dead elephant them as part of the "funeral", which may have played part in the birth of the myth.

Yeah, I imagine "I took it from an elephant graveyard so no harm done" sounds better than "I specifically went out and shot and living, breathing elephant".

When the myth was made up, killing large animals was seen as a noble, manly thing. The idea was more that finding a graveyard full of ivory makes you instantly rich, similarly to the myth of a City of Gold.

When the pack leader felt the old man's corpse he noticed that he was missing a tusk that was there last time he saw him.

So the fact that it was stolen & killer is carrying it with them is the major thing.

Someone suggested that in Episode 3, the caveman and the boy hunting the Syndyoceras in the flashback are not Spear and his son, but rather Spear and his father. The father only looks like Spear due to Strong Family Resemblance. That puts the scene in a different perspective.

I also liked how that scene used Recycled Animation not for cost-saving, but for storytelling purposes, to reflect the similarity between the hunt in the flashback and the hunt in the episode's opening.

I wasn't sure if that was Spear and his dad or Spear and his son when I watched that. My first instinct was that it was Spear and his son, but the longer it went on the more I think it's Spear and his dad. That'll probably be something Genndy will get asked in interviews, along with what certain characters' names are.

Man final episode is tonight.

I wonder if this will remain just a single season or it might get a season 2.

[up] The first episode showing at the Annecy Film Festival claimed that the series would have 10 episodes in total. Perhaps the next five will debut at a later date?

Genndy said that this was a ten episode series. We're definitely getting five more later. Depending how episode ten ends it may be impossible to make more episodes even if he wanted to. I wouldn't be at all surprised if either Spear, or Fang, or both of them, end up dead.

Ah there's more then, good.

Man I hope Spear & Fang don't die. That be sad as fuck.

Given how this whole thing started and the general tone of the work as a whole, "sad as fuck" wouldn't surprise me in the least. I doubt they'd die for nothing though. I predict they'll give their lives to save a tribe of humans, or something similar.

Also, I'm probably late to the party here, but it was only while watching episode 4 that I noticed Fang had a snaggle-tooth on her right side and not on her left. Like, before today, I'd see her right side and assume she had a big tooth on the left side too, or I'd see her left side and think her right side was the same, with had no single, huge protruding tooth.

Ah that was so chill. Sweet seeing Spear relax & have fun for once, even joking with Fang.

But alas it had to be ruined.

So, uh, I know that I should probably be focused on that ending, but I'm still stuck on the fact that Spear drank Aku and literally turned into The Incredible Hulk.
