Well she is an animal so she doesn't really care where she ends up.

Meanwhile Spear has enough self-awareness to recognize how different he is from other people.

I think it was more the solitude Spear was dealing with. Fang wasn't alone now that she had her two chicks (and probably isn't as social as most hominids anyway) and Mira has her village. Spear's first family seemed to be the only people he had before they were killed.

He basically felt like a third wheel after helping his friends. Fang has her new children and Mira is back home. Without being focused on just trying to survive, Spear had time to reflect on how alone he is.

Poignantly, it is only on his deathbed that he realizes he is not alone. Fang and her children’s grief-stricken roars show that they saw him as family. And Mira went further to show Spear that she saw him as family too.

I don't think anyone from Mira's village even explicitly thanked Spear for bringing Mira home. I suppose that's partly what the celebration was for, but Mira was the only one who went out of her way to make him feel at home.

[up] It's entirely possible that the ritual dance was used at least partially to thank him but he has no knowledge of their customs so he wouldn't even know if they were. He's not really even capable of speech.

Finally watched the last episode too. And I agree: it was great apart from two points.

Point one: the fight against the fire demon, for an enemy with such a long build-up, was disappointingly short.

Point two: the sex scene at the end was weird due to Spear's condition, and I also feel Spear's final moment should have been with Fang instead of Mira. And it would have been fixable with the episode playing out almost exactly the same, except the events happening in a different order: Mira finding Spear's paintings in the morning could wake him up and they have sex; as they finish, they hear the villagers yelling at the fire demon. The fight scene happens, and Spear dies from his burns, with just enough time to say goodbye to Fang, the nestlings and Mira. Then the scene after the Time Skip happens exactly the same.

I’ve created a temporary Primal Character Page with some minor changes, such as:

  • Adding several new sections (Ancient Civilisations, Antagonists, Creatures, etc)
  • Merged the “Infected Hadrosaur“ and “ Plague Monster” folder’s into the “ The Plague of Madness” folder
  • Renamed “The Scorpion” into “Fire Demon” and will rename both “Fang’s Babies” folders into “Fang’s Hatchlings”

Is there any need for improvements…?

Does the page need splitting off into, at the very least, two pages…?

The Fire Demon's examples should be rewritten. He's not a "mysterious warlord from across the sea", he's the literal devil; Mira's drawing does not depict him but the leader of the Horny Vikings; etc.

If you want to make any changes, then make it on the main page, as I’ll be rearranging the page to better fit with the new layout soon.

Any other changes or not? Should the page need splitting off or not?

I wouldn't have time to make those changes in the next 20 hours or so.

But otherwise, the page is large enough that it should probably be split into a few pages (main duo, family and allies, antagonists, miscellaneous creatures).

~/@Snicka, I've been on this byte counter and put them into categories and this is the end result (Please bear in mind that the maximum number of bytes per page is 40,000).

  • Main Duo - 43,011 characters, totaling 43,015 bytes
  • Family and Allies (Supporting Characters??) - 39,902 characters, totaling 39,902 bytes
    • Spear's Family - Spear's Original Family, Spear's Father, Mira, Spear's New Child (Unmarked Spoilers!)
    • Fang's Family - Fang's First Hatchlings, Red, Fang's Second Hatchling's
    • Allies - Primitive Men, Lula, The Celtic Tribe, The Celtic Chief, Kamau, Kamau's Tribe, Amal, Mira's People, Mira's Father, Amara
  • Antagonists - 94,922 characters, totaling 94,956 bytes
    • Major Antagonists - The Coven, Fire Demon (Unmarked Spoilers), The Chieftain, Ima
      • Minor Antagonists (By Season)
        • Season One - Giant Spider, Ape Men, The Night Feeder
        • Season Two - The Vikings, Rikka, Eldar, The Madman, The Egyptians, The Sea People, The Sea People's King
        • The Plague of Madness - In General, Infected Hadrosaur, Plague Monster
  • Miscellaneous Characters and Creatures - 48,480 characters, totaling 48,482 bytes
    • The Historical Society - In General, Charles, Lord Darlington, Blakely, Giroud, Bertie
    • Minor Characters and Civilisations - The Babylonian King, The Peaceful Villagers' Chief, Ancient Civilizations
    • Creatures - Dinosaurs, Reptiles, Mammals, Fish

At the moment, the last two categories are far too big and unwieldy (particularly the Antagonists section, which has to be split and possibly merged into other sections if possible). Any thoughts and/or suggestions please, if possible...?

Maybe the Antagonists part can be split into two, then?

I find a bit arbitrary that the Sea People's king is counted as an antagonist when the Babylonian king is not. Sure, the Babylonians were purely victims of the Egyptian's raids, whereas the Sea People were raiders themselves who make the mistake of attacking the Egyptians, but their narrative function is roughly the same.

Maybe the characters from "The Primal Theory" - including the Historical Society and the Madman - can have their own subpage as well? They are not part of the main narrative and maybe not even part of the same timeline.

Yeah I think we can put all humans into the same category. Antagonist doesn't really work when they live in a Death World

It seems to be ordered pretty decently. Separate pages could be

Main characters (Fang Spear Mira) - Maybe put the family members here too, main characters and family

Humans & Humanoids - All the humans that appeared in the show, including the English ones, as well as the primitive men and witches

Creatures - Dinosaurs, Reptiles, Mammals, Fish, Other Creatures ect

Right, I’ll start work on this this coming Sunday, as that’s the earliest that I can do this thing due to personal reasons.

I just realized that a Viking warrior turning into a fiery giant thanks to a satanic figure is something Tartakovsky has done before.

EDIT: I just watched the first episode of Sym-Bionic Titan, and that one has a fire giant as well! Tartakovsky really seems to like this trope.

I'm wondering whether the idea that Mira's captors should be Vikings was decided after "Slave of the Scorpion" already aired. The reasons:

  • It's weird that a group of Viking raiders from Grim Up North would use a slave brand that depicts a desert animal.
  • It's rather weird that Mira portrays a regular human in a horned helmet as a towering, horned giant when she draws the other raiders as stick figures.
  • It's also rather odd (and somewhat underwhelming) that the actual towering horned giant (the Demon Formerly Known as the Scorpion) has nothing to do with the towering horned giant on Mira's drawing.
My theory is that in the original concept the slavers were supposed to be a group of Egyptian-esque who have already made a pact with the Demon and worshipped him as a god - but somewhere during the development of the second season they decided to split Mira's captors and the pseudo-Egyptians into two separate factions, and they gave the former a Viking aesthetic, whereas the latter became the people of the Colossaeus; and then came up with the whole Deal with the Devil plot for the Viking chief. Do you know whether there's any Word of God on this?

By the way, I find the fact that the Demon is still referred to as "the Scorpion" on this wiki, even though he has no scorpion motifs and the Vikings' scorpion motif has nothing to do with him, mildly annoying and a good example of what the problem is with Speculative Troping.

Great time for me to start watching the first 5 episodes and goddamn the violence in this is breathtaking.

Though spoiler alert doesn't Spear die in the second season?. Huh I wonder what season 3 will be about.

Yes, Spear dies in ep. 20. Season 3 will, apparently, be more like "The Primal Theory", standalone stories that are thematically connected but have no recurring characters.

[up] You think each episode will be different, or do you think each season will revolve around a different character(s) ala Infinity Train?

On the one hand, Primal uses some atypical silent storytelling so that fits.

On the other hand I like Spear and Fang's dynamic. This reminds me of how The Mandolorian ended the initual father/baby Yoda story arc. I'm still not sure if I want to follow the story after Mando and Grogu finish their story arc.

In the most recent episode of The Simpsons they keep cutting away from the present day storyline to scenes set in the stone age that may be a shout-out to Primal. Maybe.
