OK, here's where this thread is standing, with the unlocking:
Given the widespread backlash and complaining about certain aspects of the work (i.e. Dexit), we wanted to communicate very clearly what we are not willing to put up with: prolonged, circular complaining (or wonking).
Of course, with a controversial subject that has a large impact on the gameplay, Dexit is in one of those areas where there it may be on-topic to discuss it, but the nature of that discussion can wildly vary. As has been said elsewhere, we ix-nayed discussion of Dexit entirely because it never seemed to happen without devolving into that kind of complaining.
However, we're willing to unlock the thread after this 3-day cooldown period because the Pokemon General thread has been stable enough. And -
Can I discuss Dexit?
Yes. But if there is prolonged wonking on it, the thread just becomes an echo chamber of complaints and we do not like that. No one likes that. The same rules as ever apply. Be a constructive, healthy space. Have conversations about what you like, and what you don't like, but the thread should not get locked into a series of bitter complaints.
If you have questions or concerns about mod implementation or action, we have a thread for that here.
Alright? Thank you all for waiting this out. I hope we're all good now.

One of the head admins was accused of some sexual nastiness IIRC.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."I wonder if tvtropes has a secret, mod-only forum for sharing nudes.
Bulbapedia can get trivia information wrong too, like insisting Charizard is a lesbian for a long time, or the romanization of Japanese names despite being official (insisted on Gekogashier despite Gekogashira being used a lot - and now I have a feeling they'll insist on Morupeko than Morpeko).
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life. They're also not exactly reliable with the more complex workings of the battle mechanics. Smogon's way better with that since they need to know random shit for the sims.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? There are basically two rules in this thread: keep it civil and avoid the Dexit controversy.
There are three rules
... And that's called jazz!Oh jeez, really? I can never see Bulbapedia the same way ever again, and i love that site.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Bulbapedia is a Wiki lacking a sources section in its articles, and with inflated trivia ones.
No, not the best wiki. Has a good format for game data, but, that's it.
And treating model screenshots as sprites is laughable. Sprites are over, you may use the Dex renders and perhaps a model "viewer" ala TF 2 wiki, but the cropped battle screenshots are just bad.
ultra has a better pokemon/move distribution than vanilla sm and I think in gameplay content it's better, though yeah vanilla has a better story. Oh and rotom is better in vanilla too. He's kinda annoying in ultra and TBH almost acts like a different character all together, he's more child-like which is a bit jarring IMO.
Recently going through one of the Ultra Games, it's a tough choice between base SM and USUM.
The original SM have a better story, but suffers from a lower amount of available Pokemon and some odd choices regarding a few trials and area-based evolutions being locked to the end or near the end of the main story. Also, USUM kinda makes it feel like an unfinished game.
USUM fixed the area-based evolutions by expanding them and has more Pokemon to choose from, no based move tutors and also has Mantine surf that is fairly easy to grind bp for, but the story is weaker, and Rotom dex is more intrusive. Also, my memories of the Ultra Games are fresher, so I can definitely knock the railroading and forced tutorials, especially after playing Crystal and replaying FR.
Honestly, you're choice which one you want to get.
Also, all this talk of Bulbapedia and Serebii, and no one mentions Psypoke
Late edit to a long post, but...
Bulbapedia is probably the best fan wiki that exists. The only ones that come close are Wookiepedia and Smash Wiki.
Also tfwikidotnet, a great combination of facts and jokes

Silence is golden, noise is platinum. Keelah se'lai...I don't think I've ever even heard of Psypoke.
Also, clearly the best game is a mix of Sun and Moon's story with the mechanics of USUM.
Seriously though, I think that's where one draws the line: SM have the better story, USUM have better playability. Which part you care about the most is what should inform your choice here. Me, I'm a story guy first, so I go for Sun and Moon.
I also hold a deep-seated hatred of the Rotomdex, and the thing is slightly less annoying in Sun and Moon, so there's that.

Psypoke is kinda dead, isn't it?
I've never heard of Psypoke soo
New theme music also a boxOh god i havent bern to Psypoke in a clean decade hahaha.
...I guess we have to wait next month for Shield equivalent.
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life. We'll get more info soon. I can't believe it but the months almost over, and they've consistantly been giving us info early in the month. In two weeks well have something new to bite into.
More like in three days since that's when we're getting more info on the next iteration of the anime and I wouldn't be surprised if they snuck in some more SWSH info as well.
Team Fortress 2's wiki is also pretty damn solid. Not only factually-accurate, but also uses rotateable model viewers with as page images, features economic information on buying and selling items, demonstration videos on every weapon in the game, and uses in-game voice clips as silly quotes on many pages.
Ignoring the admin controversy and focusing purely on content, Bulbapedia is useful but does suffer from the issues Eriorguez mentioned.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Going to wander over to the general topic for discussion of older games. Forgot it existed and the forum's search is still in bad shape, so I couldn't find it earlier.
Anyway, I do like Farfetch'd getting an evolution and it's not horribly over-designed like most Pokemon nowadays. It's regal and simple. I hope it's good, always like the samurai duck but it was too mediocre to really use even for non-competitive story play.
We need more Scottish Pokemon girl memes, dammit.
"But don't give up hope. Everyone is cured sooner or later. In the end we shall shoot you." - O'Brien, 1984I think sirfetchd's actual body is too simple to the point of being boring, it's even more simple than farfetch'd. I think the lance and shield are genius, but the the actual pokemon himself is letdown visually. Looks more like a regional form than a regional evolution. Dare I say I find it one of the worst new pokemon revealed? At least as far as first impressions go.
also gen 7 buffed farfetch's attack to a respectable 90 so it's not entirely useless for in-game use. It's still slow and frail though so eh. Hopefully it can get use out of eviolite this time.
Edited by Vertigo_High on Sep 26th 2019 at 12:35:48 PM
This actually begs the question: how are they going to handle Eviolite for Pokémon that come from outside of Galar (and, thus, apparently can't evolve)? Will they benefit from Eviolite or is the game going to make a distinction?
... And that's called jazz!I think they will and they'll make the evolution either available later on or through some mechanic.
unless you're talking about basic linoone, which no, it won't.

This. They've disappeared these last few months, and they were the best thing about the early days of this game's publicity.
I love Sirfetchd just because it has the exact smug face as Dedede when he's crouching.
It's been 3000 years…
The site's original owner and current head mod, Liam Pomfret, is known for having done in said a lot of weird stuff like writing a fan fic with an Ash/Misty sex scene, and saying that "age is just a number" and that there's "no such thing as underage". Stuff that leads to people making fun of him and calling him a pedo.
Additionally, IIRC when the site was bought by some company years ago there was a mod leak revealing that the mods had a secret forum where they shared porn and nude pictures of themselves, which they were in a hurry to delete after the site was bought. It's known that the site had underage moderators at the time, and there didn't appear to be any restriction on them using the secret porn forum. It's not actually known if there was any child porn on the forum, but a lot of people already wary of the site owner reputation suspect it.
Basically, no one knows for sure if anything illegal happened, but the site's admin is known to be creepy, and its all why detractors of the site will call it "Bulbapedo".
