OK, here's where this thread is standing, with the unlocking:
Given the widespread backlash and complaining about certain aspects of the work (i.e. Dexit), we wanted to communicate very clearly what we are not willing to put up with: prolonged, circular complaining (or wonking).
Of course, with a controversial subject that has a large impact on the gameplay, Dexit is in one of those areas where there it may be on-topic to discuss it, but the nature of that discussion can wildly vary. As has been said elsewhere, we ix-nayed discussion of Dexit entirely because it never seemed to happen without devolving into that kind of complaining.
However, we're willing to unlock the thread after this 3-day cooldown period because the Pokemon General thread has been stable enough. And -
Can I discuss Dexit?
Yes. But if there is prolonged wonking on it, the thread just becomes an echo chamber of complaints and we do not like that. No one likes that. The same rules as ever apply. Be a constructive, healthy space. Have conversations about what you like, and what you don't like, but the thread should not get locked into a series of bitter complaints.
If you have questions or concerns about mod implementation or action, we have a thread for that here.
Alright? Thank you all for waiting this out. I hope we're all good now.

> the Ben Affleck leak
This is gonna be so nice to remember when talking about Gen VIII in the future... I like it
It seems to be an interesting view. Once again, no Trio Master, but a 2x1 situation (like the Cosmog duo against Necrozma).
... And that's called jazz!Hmm. If the leak is true and the third legendary really is the main antagonist maybe Team Yell accidentally wakes it up somehow or another early on and Bede and Marnie want to become Champion so that the version mascot will help them defeat it?
I don't think that Eternatus would be a villain per se. But I do think that it would drive the villain's actions. I'm more in the camp of the villain either being Rose, his Sexy Secretary, or even Bede.
I don't see Team Yell releasing Eternatus by accident early on; I could see it happening near the climax, with the mastermind having to play Xanatos Speed Chess to keep on top of things. You could even be made to help the mastermind out in the name of "peace"...
Then again, let's remember that Galar is the most linear region map in the series to date, so it's not like we'll be running back and forth unless we're literally Backtracking...
For the record, there's only one, true, original Ben Affleck leak. There are those attempting to piggyback the leak by either posting the same image or trying to co-opt it. So far everything but Eternatus and Galarian Meowth, Sirfetched, and Gigantamax Pikachu/Meowth are in it.
Didn't that one also mention a Fairy-type gym we haven't seen yet?
Since version exclusive gyms are a thing again, it could be one we haven't seen yet. They've only revealed a certain amount of gym leaders so far.
We functionally have seen 3 out of the probably 8, right?
Wake me up at your own risk.I think this is the first time they've been a thing. Drayden and Iris don't really count because their team is basically identical.
It's been 3000 years…So, what, was "Here's some nameless town" the entirety of the updates we had for this week? Man, GF needs to hire a new PR person. After they hyped it up, I expected something more than just that.
Was anything hyped up, though? All I saw prior to that was a tweet saying they'd talk about Pokémon already revealed through the week. Was something announce elsewhere?
SoundCloudWhat I'm wondering is how they're going to handle the Bea/Allister split. Most towns in previous games were somewhat themed around the type of the gym they hosted. Previous games had version-specific gym leaders, but they were still the same type, so no change needed there, really. How is the town going to be handled? Is it going to be super generic, or will it actually be a completely different town depending on the version?
I like the themed towns, and it'd be a shame to go back to 1st/2nd gen where every town was literally just color-swapped and otherwise weren't very different from each other.

There was only the tweet, but it talked about "a lot more to learn about Pokémon we've already discovered" and "sharing some more facts", and unless they're counting the discovery that Wooloo goes "doh doh doh", I can't help but feel a little bit underwhelmed.

They did post Pokédex entry type snippets throughout the week. That said, nothing in those would matter from a gameplay perspective and the whole thing seemed to be an attention grabber for the kids in the audience.
The website shows two separate screenshots with the different gyms set in identical locations, so make of that what you will.

SoundCloudThe pokemon Twitter has been doing daily facts about pokemon weve seen already. We already had 2 vids this month and thr gamescom thingy, i wasnt expecting much else.
The Pokemon talk at Gamescom earlier today was when I expected new information after what we got at Worlds and at the beginning of Gamescom.
After nothing showed up today, I'm not expect anything else until next month.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Yo. New to this forum I guess. So how do you guys think of the gamecom stuff? I thought the trailer was pretty nice.
I'm honestly kind of hoping Eternatus is like a Pokemon version of The Anti-Monitor.
And in order to get to it, you have to battle Horde Encounters of Shadow Monsters, which would register as pure Dark types with high speed and middling attack and special attack.
I admit I am a fan of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon approach and it seems to me Eternatus would be a great fit for that.
Pokémon version of the Anti-Monitor is Giratina. Coming from an antimatter universe is its entire thing.
More like the Ultra Wormhole phenomenon. It spiriting away Lusamine's husband is what kick started her obsession with them and things went downhill from there, which is consistent with both S&M and US&UM.
Just look at aqua/magma for handling version gym leaders. Probably have the other one as an npc.
Possible soundtrack leak from 4chan.
From what I'm understanding, one of the town names listed here is already confirmed from footage from Pokejobs, but if this is fake, they likely took a look at the footage.
Town names (the one italicized is the one confirmed: Runoff Village, Touchline Town, Centremark City, Turffield City, Floodlight City, Goalbox City, Cornerarc City, Penalty Town, Flagpost City, Grandstand Metropolis.
Speculation based on the "leak" (or less speculation and more putting everything together):
Team Yell is first met somewhere in between Touchline Town and the Wild Area, you meet Bede right before the first gym and Marnie right after, Team Yell has a boss, Rose is evil and is fought after you defeat the tournament, Elite 4 and a dungeon (with trainers), Eterneus is set off and you have to capture your specific legendary, Eterneus seems to be the final boss before the first credits, the Leon fight is post game (like Adler in BW) and has a separate remix of his Champion battle theme for each of his Pokemon, Looker is back, Battle Tower is back, also Battle Eye and Clock?, Mewtwo is in the Galar dex.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Yeah, I don't think that's real. They have nothing to support it, and the town names are weird. The one we know is real is Turffield, which combines a sports term with a common English town suffix, the other are just sports terms
Hm... Turf and Field sound... somewhat redundant, as both describe types of grounds. And turf is a more general term; if it was truly "sports"-themed, or at least soccer-themed, like the rest of the (EDIT:fake) list is, it would have been Pitchfield.
Hylarn may have something with the English/British place suffixes forming the second part of each town name, but the question there is "Are there at least a dozen such suffixes to carry the theme?" Centremark could work with that pattern, as could Flagpost, with Touchline being a stretch, but yeah, the others are right out.

You know an idea that has been brewing in my head, that just won't leave me alone is that Eternatus is going to be the villian. The main reasons for this are the way that the ben affleck leak describes Eternatus "The Evil Legendary". That is something that has been bugging me ever since I read it. Why is he calling it "The Evil Legendary" why not the third legendary. Also there is the whole dynamax thing, the way they have the pokemon look has been bugging me, the color scheme is red and a dark almost black purple, it just gives the feeling that there is something wrong with Dynamaxing. It honestly has made me think we may get something like the dynamaxing that we are using isn't the true dynamaxing but a warped version of it.
