Optimism is a duty.Supertrope.
Been trying to brainstorm better titles for "western fanservice" characters.
Those both rely on people knowing what those terms are without having to look them up.
Optimism is a duty. The two other suggestions I've seen so far are Occidental Eye Candy and Western Fanservice Character.
Of them, I prefer Occidental Eye Candy; Western Fanservice Character is too easily mixed up with "chaps and cowboy hats."
Occidental Eye Candy could have the same problem of people not knowing the meaning of the word "occidental" without looking it up.
Looks like people agree on the supertrope idea, so I’ve created a draft for it at Sandbox.Foreign Fanservice. I didn’t add the paragraph on allophilia from Everyone Looks Sexier if French, but let me know if you guys think it'd be helpful for the article. Either way, it should be removed from that page, and the Foreign People Are Sexy alternate title should probably redirect to this trope instead.
Cool. The agreement on the supertrope was pretty unequivocal.
Of those, I like Occidental Eye Candy the best. Western Waifu also sounds good, but 'tis true I wouldn't know what a waifu is without looking it up. Occidental Eye Candy is neater.
Wondering if Mighty Whitey and Mellow Yellow and Dragon Lady fit in here as well.

"It's just a show; I should really just relax"I agree they do feel related.
Optimism is a duty.I really like Western Waifu, but there is the problem of people not being unfamiliar with the slang. Which is ironic because I'm usually against the Japanese-specific names, but it actually makes sense here (even though I don't think the trope should necessarily be restricted to Japan, though that may be where most examples come from).
Occidental Eye Candy would be my other choice. Maybe put this up to crowner to see what everyone thinks?
Western Waifu sound completely appropriate.
If you feel we can get away with waifu, I would be fine with that one.
Optimism is a duty.I agree.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Crowner.
Title crowner. Not sure if other options should be added.
"It's just a show; I should really just relax"The crowner's hooked.
My main issue with any option that includes "waifu" is that it's my understanding that that term doesn't necessarily correlate to a fanservice character, it's simply a character that a person is especially attached to. Clarity trumps all other concerns and I'd rather not be slinging terminology around like a wild nakama.
While I get the idea behind trying to avoid jargon, I also like the idea of having something in the title to indicate that this is a Western character who is fetishized because Westerners are exotic to the intended audience. A little bit of Gratuitous Japanese in the trope title helps with that, I think, by implying that the work is written from a non-Western perspective.
Occidental Eye Candy could be mistaken for any attractive Western character, whether they're fetishized for being Western or not.

I don't think "waifu" fulfils that goal;

Waifu, meaning "attractive character", is an English slangword. The Japanese meaning is the transliteration from the English word "wife".
Gaijin is, at least, not very distorted from the Japanese meaning: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaijin Link to TRS threads in project mode here.
It may be a loan word, but it at least conjures the idea of a Japanese perspective since it's a slang term that's associated with the anime fandom.
I'd tend to agree that "gaijin" accomplishes the purpose better. Unfortunately that option doesn't seem to be doing well in the poll.
Another thing probably add to the list somewhere is any British girls will speak absolutely the most formal possible Japanese, usually in that ‘sexy regal’ kind of way. Guys however it’s kinda hit or miss, they are pretty rare.
Don’t know if that worthy of being in the western waifu trope or another related trope.
Honestly, I think any of the proposed names are fine, but based on the crowner people have serious beef with all of them. What to do?
"It's just a show; I should really just relax"
Crown Description:
Foreign Fanservice is being made into a supertrope for the concept of objectifying foreign cultures. What should its current definition, "Western/White fanservice character in a non-Western (usually Japanese) work", be called?
Supertrope.
