Needs Help: Video Game.The Longest Journey

Since the games share a common universe, there are several tropes that can belong to multiple games. This is why I suggested to create a common page for all 3 games. It doesn't help that there is no common name for the series, but that doesn't change the fact that it's still one universe and deserves a common page, as the current situation is rather chaotic, especially with the character pages.

Wikipedia just uses "The Longest Journey" as the series name, and apparently the developers have informally done the same. I don't see why we can't do that, too.

Enough of this. Let's just call the first game (1999) and kick the "1" disambiguation can down the road.

All right. Then I will do it like this. The series will be named VideoGame/TheLongestJourney, and the first game VideoGame/TheLongestJourney1999.

Doing all the refactoring will probably take some time and multiple edits. Is it OK if I put a warning on the top of the page that the page is currently under rearrangement, and a link to this forum topic?

Yes, the warning would help.

I started working on it. I created the new page, and updated the descriptions. Now working of finding the common tropes. Other tasks remaining:

• Character pages.
• YMMV and Moments pages.
• Indices.
• Other incoming wicks.

If someone feels like helping out, please indicate here.

The main pages are done. Now I'm starting the character pages.

Now come the YMMV pages. I decided to merge those too, as they don't have too much content for any single game. Except maybe the WMG, but those really should be merged, as they are connected to all games.

I don't think "1999" is a good disambiguator because there are no other games with that title released in other years but the year in brackets falsely implies that there are. Instead, the common practice for disambiguating video game and franchise pages in the Video Game/ namespace is simply to add "1" to the title of the latter, then hide it using a custom title. Case in point:

• VideoGame.Fallout and VideoGame.Fallout 1
• VideoGame.Half Life and VideoGame.Half Life 1
• VideoGame.Bio Shock and VideoGame.Bio Shock 1

As such, I would advocate for using the established convention instead of reinventing the wheel and volunteer to rename all subpages and update the wicks.

Unless you want to do a lot of renaming, it's too late now. I requested a wiki word change to The Longest Journey, but it's not yet granted.

For that matter, "1" would not be a good disambiguator because it implies there is a "2", which there isn't. All the examples you showed had it.

Couldn't we just call the disambiguation page VideoGame/TheLongestJourneySeries (formatted The Longest Journey Series) and then leave VideoGame/TheLongestJourney as the name of the first game? Seems like it would save a lot of work, and wouldn't actually be any less accurate.

There not being a TLJ 2 is a valid point.

AFAIK the devs refer to the series as a whole as "The Longest Journey Saga", so that may be a better descriptor than generic "Series".

Sure, Saga works me. If Word of God has actually used a term, that's always better.

I like the The Longest Journey Saga naming. I will change it that way. Some technical questions then:

• How do I delete a page?
• How do I edit an existing redirect?

• Add it to the Cut List.
• Go to any random article and click edit, then in your browser's address bar, replace that page's namespace and title with the redirect's.

OK, it's done. It has an added advantage that wicks don't need to be changed. They should be checked though if they refer to multiple games of the series, then The Longest Journey Saga should be mentioned there.

I'll keep the warnings on the pages (I only put it to the first game and for the saga), but I'll remove it soon if there are no more major objections here.
