My Mecha Academy

Danny broke right back into stride.

"Hey, I need a roomie. Any takers?"

He shrugged. Anything else he may have marginally heard, but kinda ignored.

Yuliana gave Quinn a quick look, then nodded at Will. "Don't worry, the way I see it they just want attention. I wouldn't pay them any mind. Anyway." She nodded to Danny.

"I'm down for three to a room myself if you are, but I got something to handle here I think." Yuliana said, jerking her head forward. She popped the truck's door on her phone and tossed the keys in as she headed to the back of the truck with a confident hip-pop in her stride. "Anyone needs a ride to the garage, be my guest."

The best way to show up the goobers here was to demonstrate the power an antique like Vlad had under the hood, and she was shaking a little with anticipation. She threw open the doors of the cargo container, then got to work boarding and starting up the vintage mech.

"Hang on, don't we need clearance? Or, at least permission?" Will asked his new roommate as she booted up Vlad.

"Just wanted to point that out."

Although, saying that, he wasn't against the idea of having a lift to the garage.

Quinn – Orientation

Quinn stared up at Vlad with an unreadable expression, before clapping his hands together and spinning on his heel.

“Yeah, I'm taking the route that uses my legs. Ciao.”

He began a slow, lazy walk the long way to the garage right up until he rounded the corner and went out of sight—to which his dawdle picked up into an increasingly panicked sprint.

S*** s*** s*** s*** that thing looked expensive this'll probably be a metric s***-ton of legal crap oh god oh jesus...

"Eh, why not? It'll be fun."

It was a catch-all response, said as he hopped into the truck. He needed an excuse to take Crazy D for one last test run.

Or rather, not counting non-combat exercises, one first test run.

"I do find it a tad odd that people are running to their mechs the first night. Exhilarating, but a tad odd. Then again, we're doing it, so it can't be that bad."

Leo just nodded a bit at Joshua.

"I guess it's like that" He said, with a shrug "I considered being a pilot, but I guess I could also... design something, even if it's just a more efficient gun" He really felt like an idiot, but he tried to hide it.

"At least some people seem cool" He said, honestly, before seeing Quinn walk out "And a few people would need to be institutionalized" He said, how much of a joke it was is up to debate.

He should check some things more closely, but for now, he just wanted to enjoy before things got too insane.

The sight of funnels was not a trick of the eye. For they were the final things before the Mechs vanished into rippling air and disappeared from sight.

So advanced were the Mechs, they didn't make a noise. They had long since done away with the giant building destroyers...because if there was anything they learned, it was, ultimately, to let them destroy themselves from the inside.

So, their mechs were different. Thinner, smaller, and far more complicated...because technically, their Mechs had been reduced to transport pods. No, what these "Mechs" were made for...were far more devious.

A dozen hands reached down and pressed buttons...

And on Campus, a dozen bodies froze in mid activity. Mid step, mid bite, mid-anything. For a moment, the body stopped functioning...and then, they continued seconds later, after their eyes flashed green before going back to their normal color.

Step one had begun.

Chris

Chris was checking the board again, and it looked like the rooms had filled up pretty far - he decided to go with dorming with one "Quinn Ackermann". In the haste earlier, he had not gotten the abrasive and loud smaller student's name and so by now was thinking what sort of person his perspective roommate was. He had little idea of the...fame...attached to their name, and so was left wondering if this person was a male or female.

...if he was rooming with a girl, it'd make Maylee jealous again, and he didn't want that. Not after what happened with Britney, the apartment, and the dead cat.

He was on his way out to try and meet up with this person when he saw some people just stop almost mid step, and then keep moving. "...Huh?" Chris got an odd feeling seeing that, but he tried to just keep moving.

The gigantic school boy thought about the remarkable lack of presence by those suits, which oddly kind of both relieved him...and worried him the more he thought about it. If they weren't in sight, were they out of sight doing bad things?

"Seriously." Joshua said, agreeing with Leo. "I think half of them escaped from that asylum down the - the hell?"

People around the group stopped with unnatural abruptness. For a moment Joshua felt like they had entered a still life painting. Just as suddenly though, everyone resumed their activities with no hint that they paused in the first place.

"What was that? Some kind of senior prank?"

Noticing Chris giving the people an odd look as well, Joshua spoke to him again.

"Any idea what that was about?"

"Alright, so I got-" Before Noel could fully make out her roommate, something weird happened.

"Hey! What the hell is that!?"

After finally making it to the board, Saya saw the name of her roommate.

"Okay good to know!" The weird thing occurred and Saya's only response was:

"Huh?" She say softly.

Leo just chuckled at that, but the sudden, unnatural pause everything took.

"That really felt...wrong" He said, wondering what was it.

Hopefully, it's nothing He thought.

Sev and Diana froze, and then resumed, Sev taking a deep inhale, "The hell was that?"

Leo decided it was time to go his way, and try to get everyone from worrying too much.

"Beyond unsettled, I am fine" He said to the others "I am going to check where we'll be staying. Anyone come with me?" He asked, starting to walk out.

"Alright, fuckers, let's dance..!" Vlad's bulky arms levered the mech out of the container... to find an empty campus. "Hurk!" Yuliana gave it a quick scan, looking for anything. Not that Vlad had much advanced stuff, all she had was thermal and basic emission scanners, but it was worth a try.

Crazy D stepped out behind Vlad, doing a scan of it's own...

Nothing.

"Where the hell did they go?"

Danny blinked, thinking that he may be seeing the results of the scan wrong. Nope, still nothing.

"Uhhh, Yuliana?" Will called up to his previously-time-displaced roommate.

"Who are you looking for? We're not under attack, are we?"

"Well, whatever." Joshua shrugged and moved to join Leo. "So, how was your trip here? Take the mecha or the bus?"

"By mech" Leo admitted "Took me some convincing, and a talk about not overdoing it, but went pretty smoothly"

He looked at Joshua "How about you?"
