First trailer just dropped:

It's got some firsts for Laika. It's...

  • their first movie to have an adult protagonist rather than a child protagonist.
  • their first movie released by a studio other than Focus Features. This time being Annapurna Pictures!

Looks like a lot of fun!

I thought this was an Aardman movie at first and was really confused since they released Early Man earlier this year.

Looks alright. I'll go see it since stop motion is always a treat to watch.

dammit the video's blocked here in the uk

Still, it's Laika and their track record's held up remarkably well thus far so it'll probably turn out well

Good Lord, this didn't even look like stop-motion half the time. And I mean that in the best way possible: Laika producing such fluid puppetry that its almost indistinguishable from CG is insane.

However, the plot looks way too goofy for my tastes.

So the film got further Acclaimed Flop points.

Yooooooooooo. I haven't seen it unfortunately but considering it's NOT Disney I think I'm quite fine with this.

Considering that all other nominees were sequels or remakes, I'm glad that the original movie won.

I would say it definitely deserves it

Also no Oscar nomination for Frozen II or, relievingly, The Lion King (2019).

Of the ones I've seen (the bottom three), all good choices.

I would be happy if either this or Klaus won.

It won a Golden Globe and got a nomination for best animated movie. I did not think an Acclaimed Flop could get achievements like this.
