Plus if they are villainous, or at least deliberately made to be disliked, they don't qualify for The Scrappy.

That's probably why we have the Hate Sink trope for it in case the characters are made to be disliked by both the audience and by the characters in-universe.

Also, since the truth about Ozpin's secrets have now been revealed, would that count as a potential Awful Truth example?

That said, I didn't expect Ozpin to have actually literally done nothing wrong and instead having a massive but well justified messiah complex. Not that I'm complaining.

Oz's past might be more fitting to file under My Greatest Failure . As for the brothers...maybe categorization should wait until after a rational discussion can be had that doesn't break into theological ranting.

Worth noting. Ozma was warned about what Salem had become by Go L.

He still started a family and agreed to forcibly ruled over humanity with her for a time.

Overall yes he's sympathetic, but thats not a small fuckup to make.

GoL gave him a warning just vague enough that it would haunt him forever without giving him a specific reason why it would be dangerous to try and approach Salem again. I'm almost wondering if the brothers were intentionally setting them up to fight for all t as yet another way to punish Salem and humanity.

It's worth noting that yes, they had a family together in spite of her having been corrupted by a force of pure darkness and infinite destruction, and from the looks of things despite massive Moral Myopia when it came to the rest of humanity, Salem actually cared about said family.

My guess is that the way the Grimm goo worked wasn't to instantly turn her pure evil (either she's the best actor in the world or Jinn was editorializing there), but rather to amplify the negative aspects of her personality and emotions Up To Eleven, ie being manipulative and refusing to take responsibility for her mistakes.

For me, the splash of gray on Ozpin's morality is the fact that, despite everything he's been through and knowing how genocidal they are, he's apparently trying to enact the Gods' mission.

GOL wasn't exactly forthcoming on how she changed and while the two were together Salem didn't seem that bad even if the two hid information from each other.

It mostly fell apart because he tried to sneak the kids away in the middle of the night.

That the when the two had a family together was probably the best opportunity for Salem to understand what the Gods had failed to teach her.

My guess is the lesson was supposed to be the value of life and death which is why I said they failed to teach it.

Unless she planned to revive them from the dead her kids were going to die eventually and Ozpin would have probably been more capable of helping her with her grief than the gods of that world.

Which was what, exactly? Clearly it wasn't that death is an important part/natural of life, since she almost immediately tried to kill herself. Unless the Gods are massive hypocrites (oh wait), it's not to respect the lives of others. I personally think the intended take away was "do not question the will of your creators, accept the suffering we have burdened you with and be grateful that we allow you exist in the first place."

Actually, Emerald makes a lot of sense considering she's based on Aladdin.

As for who used the first question, more than likely Ozpin.

Not man other people still alive who would be old enough for it.

@Ryno_v: Then Salem does her facepalm and "calmly" explains to Emerald she's just denied Tyrian and her followers the chance to live to see her ultimate victory over the Gods (that's almost certainly what she's sold her followers on even if she doesn't think she can win herself), because now she has to wait another hundred years for new questions.

We don't know that Ozpin is trying to bring the gods back, we only know that he's trying to bring humanity together in the face of Salem ripping them apart, which is certainly a worthy goal.

We also know that Ozpin, who is loathe to trust anyone, put the methods to bring back the gods in vaults that he doesn't exclusively control. That tells me, that at the very least, he's not planning to bring the gods back on his own say-so.

He still has to bring humanity together before he summons them so it would make sense to put them somewhere secure while he works towards that goal.

Then he would put them into vaults only he could get into, he wouldn't set it up so that random people could get inside.

I wouldn't exactly call the maidens random people.

Anyone can become a maiden, and there's no way to guarantee who gets the power either. That's pretty random, as events have proven.

It could be Ozpin gave the necessary power to create the vaults in the first place away to the maidens, and thus they were a necessary part of the creation process.

It's not really random at all with it only going to a random person at worse case scenario.

Otherwise it goes to the last person in the thoughts of the previous maiden.

Also the exact requirements to be a qualified maiden hasn't been made beyond being female, but considering they didn't pick Glynda means there is at the very least an age limit.

I was under the impression he created the Maidens first, then created the Vaults and keyed them to the Maidens as a way to keep them safe.

In any case, my point remains, if Ozpin is trying to bring the gods back, leaving the key to that in the hands of four other people makes no sense, especially for someone who plays things close to the vest.

When I say random, I mean a person that Ozpin cannot vet, and cannot be sure that he can trust, like what happened with Raven.

Pretty sure that is why the maidens are supposed to be protected and the situation with Raven was a result of the previous Maiden running and ending up with Raven where she was killed.

The maidens being back secret generally ensures that people can't exactly go hunting them down.

Yes, but he also gave a huge amount of his power away to them, and might not have been able to create the vaults without their help, that's what I'm suggesting as a possible explanation for why he didn't key them to himself.
