Rise of Skywalker and Cats have opposite problems. Rise of Skywalker is a decent movie that only exists to make money while Cats is a passion project that's absolute garbage.
It's been 3000 years…I believe the only thing that has the privilege of calling itself worse than this movie, is the Emoji movie.
The box office results are in and CATS only made 6.5 million in it's opening weekend, putting it in the Top 20 for worst film openings in over 3000 theaters.
Well it has only a $95 million budget. It won’t be too bad a hit, right?
Oh who am I kidding. Taylor Swift and Idris Elba could possibly be looking at a Star-Derailing Role.

Taylor Swift didn't have much of one to begin with, but man is this going to hurt Idris Elba
New theme music also a boxEh, Elba also had Hobbs and Shaw come out this year and that did decent money, I don't think he's tied tightly enough to this one that he'll be dragged down by its failure.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."And Hobbs and Shaw is decently popular anyhow.
It's been 3000 years…Elba should come out fine, his acting was good it was other things that let the film down.
Plus the film improved dramatically once he kidnaped the two fat-joke characters.
I don’t see any of the cast getting much flack for this, the problem wasn’t their acting.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranYeah, there's no way anyone sane could look at this mess and think that a lack of star-power was the problem. Not to imply that execs are sane, but even they will be given overwhelming proof that the effects are the problem.
The movie was sold on its visuals more than the name actors. Funny enough, if audiences can barely recognize you it tends to make it safe for your career. That's part of the reason big names agree to voicing animated characters at scale, it's easy money for only a couple days of work.
Making Old Deuteronomy female in this strikes me as an odd choice. I got the impression from watching the musical with my ex-girlfriend that the respect he received contrasted to the scorn for Grizella was meant to be a comment on how old age tends to be less limiting for men than women in society. That kind of seems lost when they're both women, and it makes it a tad unclear why Grizella would be such an outcast when the even older Deuteronomy is treated with such awe.

Maybe they couldn't find an old man, so they improvised with an old lady.
Gah, this whole thing is a mess...
And the visual effects were unfinished? I'm still positive Sonic the Hedgehog won’t be too great, but at least that one realized it had to fix up the visuals.
They REALLY should've been a cartoon...

As much as I don't want to defend this film, the plot changes do explain it: in this version, Grizabella abandoned the Jellicles to serve Macavity before repenting and wishing to come back, and that's why everyone hates her except the forgiving Victoria.
So he's trying to pull True Art Is Incomprehensible on one of the most famously fluffy and meaningless musicals in theater?
Nah he’s specifically saying to ignore professional critics, while himself ignoring the fact that the film is getting bad reviews from the public.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranHe's not the first person to do this. Hello, John Travolta, got 'im.
It's been 3000 years…Anyone who sincerely believes in a project this insane has my respect.

A film like this reminds me of the plot to The Producers
New theme music also a boxI believe I just saw something about cockroach people on Twitter.
So. Couple things.
Thing 1: WHYYYYYYYY WAS THAT A THING?!
Thing 2: I'm never going to watch this movie, you guys.
Thing 3: (*jumps out a window*)
I have to admit, I kind of want to see this movie. At the very least, it certainly doesn't look boring.
That's about half of it. They get eaten by Rebel Wilson.
It's been 3000 years…
It isn't.
