Man, this takes me back. This whole Brony thing really blew up right when I started college, like ten years ago. Aaaaand now I feel old.

If it makes you feel better, it started up when I was about to begin High School.

I did observation hours at my college's day care several years ago for my Early Education certification and while it's rare, I've seen kids come in with Friendship is Magic merch and now I'm like "okay, are the parents brony's?" 😂

I watch a couple "Ben Shapiro is an idiot" videos and I get his videos and ads daily.

I had no idea she made Friendship Is Witchcraft, since I'm not a brony but I've seen a bunch of tropes with that show as an entry.

I was aware she had done voice acting in an MLP fan series, but seeing actual clips from it now, I'm impressed and slightly surprised by her vocal range.

Oh Lord, I remember the height of brony fandom. Those were dark, dark days even now I don't miss.

Oh I definitely encountered target demographic fans, Bronies mostly online and target demographic mostly in person. Also for ECCE certificate reasons and also Sparks/Brownies reasons, I mean they bought the official merch and it does seem like a downgrade from the old stuff with lack of brushable hair, but also the hair doesn't become one big tangled mess so I guess there is that.

I love how stupid that gatekeeper jerk was with his OC. Jenny is the true nerd we all aspire to be.

Also someone hire her for VA work. Normally I can pick out voice actors that I'm familiar with but almost none of those clips sounded like her. She's got range.

Also, I'm not prone to kinkshaming, but can I just say that making a cutesy Fandom Nickname for the act of wanking off to pornographic images of cartoon ponies is gross as hell. I don't think I'd be able to even make jokes about that as a part of a fandom I were involved with.

...I don't think "brony" is supposed to indicate a sexual interest in the MLP characters, or at least I've never seen people use it solely in that context. It was just a term used to describe male fans of the MLP series that mostly got in through Friendship is Magic.

The video was kinda fun from the point of view of someone who is into another Hasbro-based fandom that's had conventions for the past 20ish+ years.

Hello fellow Transformers fan.

Imagine if the reverse happened, and the Transformers fandom suddenly got a huge surge of older female fans. Who would act really prejudiced and hostile toward little boys who like earlier iterations of those characters. And, God forbit, come up with some gross nickname for the act of masturbating to Optimus Prime.

...that does not already exist, does it?

There's some gross fans but they are marginal at best (Though there's a third party company try to cater to them and that's all I'll say on the subject of Arcee with nipples).

Most of the fandom is actually... surprising woke for something based on a toyline aimed at boys. In part thanks to IDW's last run of comics ^note Which went a great way towards showing that while the characters have genders, it doesn't affect their lives the way it does humans and they pair off more on personality, leading to some very good. deeply well written romantic pairings, most of which were homosexual in nature, as a whole the fandom is really welcoming of LGBTQ characters and female characters. Like, the comic did cause an actual real noticeable shift. I can't speak to female collectors as I am not one myself.

It isn't to say it's free of people who are weird and have weirdly sexist opinions, but in recent years the fandom's made great leaps.

There is intergenerational posturing, though at this point it often tends to be done more jokingly, usually when people bring up which generation of the show was the best (The answer is still Beast Wars).

I think the best example of how not gross the Transformers fandom is is when that 3rd part Arcee with the squishable silicone tits and o-face accessory was announced, the general response was 'who the fuck is this for?!'
