So... I missed out on a lot because I had to uninstall the game to save phone space but I managed to get a new phone last week so I was using Notte's Notes to catch up on what I missed.

Just managed to catch up for the last main story update.

Man... What a finale. I'm glad I was able to make it back to see the end of the story.

Brb. Gonna go cry now.

Jeez, that semifinal battle was murder on my hand. My team setup made sure my characters couldn't be killed, but the damage required to go from one phase to the next was just ridiculous. Still, it was a suitably epic and satisfying finale for the game.

Also, I guess the ending invalidates my complaints about the sudden EOS giving us many an Aborted Arc, since Euden remade the world without these problems, I guess... Also Blond Nedrick is slightly unnerving for reasons I can't quite fathom, but it's nice to see Beren in royal robes.

Knew it was coming, but it doesn't make it any less of a shame. You had a fine run, DL. Probably a faint chance, but I hope it gets the Little Noah treatment and we get a retail version at some point :)

As of today, the game is officially 4 years old.

To celebrate, the game is giving us 1,200 Diamantium (premium in-game currency) on the house to all players who have been playing the game before today! This would be good to use on the Special Showcase banners that are up right now.

However!

We're getting a Dream Summon on 09/29/2022 (aka two days from now), which nets you a tenfold summon voucher and one free pick of an adventurer you don't already have!

Definitely using mine for Sheila. Father and daughter need to get reunited before the end, am I right?

Try the second-to-last topic, because there's right now a video showing how you can actually save a backup of your save file so it doesn't completely fall into oblivion!

I want to at least finish the main campaign (think I'm on Chapter 23, or the part where the main team get to Grams to fight Satan), but hooooly baloney, as someone whose first gacha game was Dragalia Lost, this feels like a godsend.

Incidentally, I might still be high on copium, but apparently Cygames likes to announce new stuff on December? They don't do any teases beforehand, do they? Like everybody just goes in blind?

Now I really wish I'd stuck with this game.

Dawn of the final day. 24 hours remain.

I work tomorrow so I won't be able to finish everything. (I spent the last month procrastinating and finding it difficult to start the game without getting emotional.)

Interesting The two images of humanoid Morsayati implied he was likely going to be playable at one point since they did the unique backgrounds for playable characters artwork.

Also reinforcing the whole Angels are Demons but too as there’s a lot of feathers and Angel motifs not seen in Morsayatis human or demon form.

It feels kind of weird Dragalia is going down on my birthday.

Yup. The last day. I was fortunate enough to both back up my save data, beat the final boss and finish the story on Saturday, Sunday, and last night.

I'm still sore that an offline version seemed pretty much unfeasible, but after the three successive things I just listed, I feel like I came to terms with it. Some probably think what happens happens, and then we're gone, but I like to think nothing's ever really gone and something a lot like Dragalia Lost will come up one day.

Wasn't there a way to see the character portraits plus the important NPCs like Zethia in the game itself? I could never find it.

If nothing else, now seems a good time to go dump playlists of story runs or something for reference. I know I only played early in Dragalia's run (a bit after gala Cleo, IIRC?)

i'm so sad, this game was with me through the better part of my college years ｡⁠:ﾟ⁠(⁠;⁠´⁠∩⁠`⁠;⁠)ﾟ⁠:⁠｡

I have been wondering what went wrong with this game for its revenue to be low enough to justify it closing down. People like assigning blame to either Cygames or Nintendo, but really at the end of the day, people not paying what both companies deemed profitable was its death sentence.

My guess is that it was a mix of not releasing the game outside of Japan and NA, lack of new character releases outside of events, repeats of adventurers being virtually worthless, and a 5 star pool that became bloated very quickly, especially regarding dragons. All of this contributed to people, even whales, not spending enough.

All in all, I had a lot of fun with this game, and I'm sad to see it go. I was interested in a lot of the side storylines that sadly were either wrapped up in a rush or were left unfinished and then I guess erased because of the main story's Cosmic Retcon ending, but it brought me a lot of fun, interesting characters and villains, and for that, I'll always remember it fondly.

Yeah, more specifically those issues brought up are also a lot of the reasons why Dragalia was so free-to-play friendly. I've seen people suggest more frequent Dream Summons would've helped for revenue, but at the end of the day you could get a lot of what you wanted or needed by being patient and a majority of the changes to the game's gacha pool were meant to make things even more friendly for F2P players, from removing Wyrmprints to adding the spark system from Granblue.

I'd also assume this was compounded by things like production costs for designing MMO-lite boss fights, aforementioned lack of market reach, or the game's initial launch in Japan getting hampered by a patent infringement lawsuit from another company. To some extent I do also hold Nintendo accountable for giving the game Invisible Advertising compared to the mobile games from studios they more directly oversee.

...which is a long-winded way of saying it was probably a ton of issues piling up and compounding the main point that mobile games don't stay profitable by being kind. Dragalia Lost was very much kind, which was both its biggest strength and why it was too nice to last forever.

That's a pretty sobering idea actually.

It was pretty F 2 P-friendly, but the bundles you could buy also felt really pricey for what you got, I remember that being a common complaint.

Me, I just hated that facility level cap increases meant endless hours grinding to afford a single level up, which amounted to the tiniest possible power boost possible. That's just not fun to do at all, and around the time I dropped the game, boss design had veered hard into something a lot more annoying.

I think Curse of Nihility was where I peaked. No doubt the buff meta needed to be reigned in, but that felt like a really hamfisted way to deal with it, as it got not only the good characters but also the ones who were not as good. And even then, I would've lived with it if they just kept it to the Sinister Dominion fights, but then it started appearing in fights outside that.

That's the only big criticism I have, though. Lots more fond memories, like all the crossovers, Volk, Iblis, the anniversary fights, the Kaleidoscape, and more I'm probably forgetting. It's been a fun ride o7

A final message from the English voice actors

The original meta built Gala Cleo and how punishing the dragon boss fights, especially High Jupiter, combined with the lawsuit, is where things were impacted negatively as I understand it. Especially in Japan where the original director I recall hearing insulted Fate/Grand-Order and that was taken VERY personally by the Japanese fandom.

@Demon Damian: Technically those plot lines can and would still exist in the new world, even if it’s better in some regards than the original world. Grimnir especially since being basically the Time Police and his race being canonically unknown(His Twitter profile has ????) gives him a lot of leeway that the Bad Future involving a Morsayati can still exist. Same for Chronos due to him being a Time Bahamut.

Same goes for how the universe would likely retcon a new means for Fiends, Demons, and Angels to exist since we have our friendly vampires and benevolent demons and the Ascended Demon in the Angels.

It is tragically funny that Elysium has been set up to be Deader than Dead alongside Xenos by the ending, while some form of Morsayati can still come into being.
