I don't expect to hear who's been cast as Kate until NYCC, but I did some figuring the other day using the role of Barry Allen as an example, since he was also introduced during a crossover along with a spinoff show.

Grant Gustin was cast 45 days after The Flash was announced. Using that timeline, it's entirely possible that Kate's casting could be announced as early as August 31.

I am kinda worried about them committing to a Batwoman series when they haven't even seen the prospective lead perform in the role yet, and since she needs to be cast and begin filming in time for the crossover, that doesn't allow for a lengthy audition process.

Remember how Hawkman, Hawkgirl, and Vandal Savage were in the crossover one year, just to set up their major role in Legends of Tomorrow? And how none of them were turned out to be particularly good?

[up] I've seen about ten audition tapes for Kate that were uploaded to Vimeo, and some were pretty good considering the rough nature of the script used. The apparent front-runner is someone I'd be very satisfied with.

[up][up]True, the Hawks and Vandal were pretty bad, but aside from that one slip, all main cast members from all 4 shows have been good.

The audition script is all over the place, but I presume that is intentional, and so that they can see the actors display a wide range of emotions, even if jumping from mood to mood like that in an actual scene would be pretty jarring.

Ruby Rose has been cast as Kate Kane!

Extremely surprising news, and very fast casting. Rose was never my top choice, but she's always been on my list, so I'm pretty satisfied. I only worry about her accent.

Taking time out of battling Salem to star in a tv show. How irresponsible.

I haven't seen Rose act in anything, so I can't comment on that, but it seems like an odd choice. Maybe they'll give her a wig.

[up] I don't think she's an Oscar contender or anything, but she's far from bad. But then the entire rest of the Internet seems to think she's the Worst Actor Ever, so what do I know? tongue

Like I said, I know nothing about her acting abilities (or lack thereof), but her image as a person is very much based on androgyny and gender fluidity. (Which, you know, go her! I think that's great.)

Whereas Batwoman is very much a femme woman who is sexually attracted to women.

It'd be like casting Tom Cruise to play Jack Reacher. Yes, they're both straight men, but one is short and known for speed while the other...Oh.

[up] Kate is actually pretty fluid in the way she dresses, and hovers more around the butch side of the spectrum.

Then again there are also parts of the internet apparently complaining because this is a show fronted by a lesbian character in general.

So Poe's Law may be in evidence.

Apparently Ruby Rose has already been scared off Twitter for...not being gay enough? or not being Jewish?...I really don't know

[up] Officially, according to one of her final tweets, it's so she can focus on her upcoming work, and no doubt that's true. But she was also aware of the backlash against her (having directly responded to some of it), so it was also a tactful exit.

I'm sick of social media harassment cases, especially against actors.

Now that I think about: when was the last time I ever logged on to my Twitter? I think it was like 2012 or 2013. Well at least I grew up to be a somewhat desent person

Anyway, is this like the second time this year an actress in an upcoming DC show deleted their social media account due to harassments?

Seems more like the thirtieth.

If I weren't registered on TV-Tropes or Youtube under aliases, I'd swear off all social media.

[up] Wait there are more?

Anyway regarding social media I usually just stick to the ones where I know can express myself in creative ways. Namely Deviant Art (which I should resurrect my old profile just for the sake of posting my sketches to show off my, and I quote, awesome art skillz), Tumblr (basically for the same reason), Youtube (cause I like to post memes and some kind of new review series I wanted to do where I compare and contrast different work), Newgrounds (a combination of the art skillz and memes reason), FPW Arena (wait that site is dead, now its called the Critical Club . . . . same reason as deviantart and Tumblr only this time its through a video game where I create wrestlers), and Facebook (only for family and quick logins to mobile games).

Those are all social media worth looking at . . . maybe its easier to just say “Fuck Twitter” since a lot of the bullshit came from that site and there is no secondary unique feature to it that makes it worth using in spite of said assholes.

So we have our first look at Ruby Rose in costume:

https://www.nbcnews.com/feature/nbc-out/batwoman-unveiled-first-image-ruby-rose-s-gotham-superhero-emerges-n918306

Looks pretty good I have to say. The wig looks a bit cheap, but then again I guess it doesn't have to look good since it's just a battle piece.

They got the look terrifyingly right.

So Berlanti gets her right, but he can't do Music Meister, Huntress, Black Canary, Killer Frost, Mxyptlik any justice.

To be fair, those people don't lead their own shows. Green Arrow, Flash, and Supergirl all have pretty great costumes.
