Yeah, Gundam and shows directly inspired by it are the point of comparison; it's the one that like, codified the Laser Blade as a mecha weapon, aerial melee combat and assorted BFG weaponry, compared to other Real Robot series eventually settling for more relatively grounded loadouts and capabilities.
Most of the animations I'm seeing outside of cutscenes are making me think more specifically of Armored Core, which makes sense since they share an executive producer and mecha designer.
Beyond being giant robots, I don't see◊ the resemblance at all.
"If you're out here why do I miss you so much?"I'm probably biased because the mecha animes I've seen are gurren lagann and to a lesser extent code geass, so when I compare those two with the screen you just posted, I completely unironically say I don't see the differences in design.
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."Okay, first one is actually really unusual in general, to the point I'm drawing a blank picking a specific anime it reminds me of. The design is bulkier in the limbs, with texturing to evoke human muscular structure, with some of Katoki's signature armor shapes and gribble. Designed to evoke an Ambiguous Robots look, not unlike Zone of the Enders.
The latter, is more traditional, honestly closer to Code Geass. Sleek, streamlined armor plates over a mechanical exoskeleton. It's design is more meant to evoke a militarized high-performance car, as can be seen by the game's transformation mechanic where all the mecha can turn into really sleek vehicle modes.
I hope that helps some?
"If you're out here why do I miss you so much?"So, how far along are we with the Gundam memes and the like about this game? And how will it be once it actually comes out?
Wake me up at your own risk. The mechs remind of the Gardes from Knights of Sidonia if anything else.
The pilot in the trailer looks so sad. Still no big reveals about this game, I just hope it does better than New Gundam Breaker (which was a disappointment to critics) and sands on its own.

New Gundam Breaker is barely more than a half assed MOBA.
All this has to do to be better than that thing is be playable at launch, or not be released as a beta.
PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyYeah, I was gonna say "New Gundam Breaker" is a pretty low bar, and the gameplay we've seen is giving me something of an Armored Core 4 meets Monster Hunter vibe, so already a drastically different game.
"If you're out here why do I miss you so much?"I am so sorry, I had no idea. I also hope it plays in its own unique way. That was just the last game I played involving giant robots.

Well, considering I don't recall ACV giving players the ability to pick up abandoned weapons scattered around the battlefield, it's probably gonna be awesome.
Spelunking through a Halo Ring is something else...Anyone preorder the physical version from online retailers?
I've been hearing from Reset ERA most online retailers have been cancelling preorders for this game.
My best bet is Nintendo is likely making this a digital only title.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."So, how about that demo? Haven’t had a chance yet to try it for myself.
PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyDidn't even know one was released. I know it's probably not the dev's fault, but they had better get the marketing campaign in gear so that sucker might get some more awareness and publicity.
I made my character, but haven’t tried any missions yet. I’ll tell you guys what I think once I do.
I’ve been having some fun. The other pilots look like a diverse group though I haven't got good enough looks at their mechs. Though I’m annoyed that one of my guns keeps firing without any input from me.
Also you can upgrade your avatar & give them cybernetics that can drastically change their appearances like a robot arm, facial markings, & glowing cyborg eyes.
Not sure when you have to actually use the avatar in the field but it’s a fun enough look.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Did the demo yesterday night. It's alright, I guess ? Dunno if I was unlucky in my drops but I really want some melee weapons, because the shooting bit will get repetitive really fast. it's fun to dick around drifting mid-air while brainlessly shooting everything in lock range while spinning like beyblade, but it gets old fast. Although I did got a pretty sick rocket launcher toward the end that at least rewards you for trying to aim.
I don't really get the point of giving you human body a double jump or a sword though, because while it sounds completely sick on paper, the game doesn't really seem to ever encourage you to get out of your mech. What are you gonna do, jump real high and go rules of nature on airborne mechas ? That'd be completely sick, but the game doesn't seem to be doing that.
Or maybe it's one of those xenoblade X moon logic bit where your endgame human character becomes strong than your mech, but I don't really see that working in a game where you have to actually worry about hitting the target.
The boss was a long series of attacking weakpoints to deal damage, sometimes dodging attacks, sometimes going "oh shit h hits hard" and sometimes "what the fuck is he trying to do ?"
I can't say I was bored, but it lacks a sense of spectacle or gripping gameplay feeling that I'd want it to have to play it more like two hours.
Also the number crunching looks ridiculous. It's xenoblade X : the action game edition but it somehow has more stats everywhere for something that should be less number-crunching oriented, and X was already pushing the limits.
Also the npc in mission 3 that has a boner on knowledge is ridiculous and I hope he dies painfully.

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."I played a bit of the demo today, and I quite liked it. I wasn't too impressed by the footage I'd seen, but now I've played it I'll definitely be getting the full version.
I got my big giant robot exploded while defending a library, which I guess is the point of being able to upgrade your avatar. But then my human got stepped on and that was the end of me.
I want to be give my character long, flowing hair, but I guess that was too hard to program.
Ukrainian Red CrossPossible designs I want to be able to pay homage to:
- Duel Gundam
- Lightning Gundam
- Any of the Gundams from Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans
- That Arm Slave from Full Metal Panic.
I tried out the demo a bit yesterday, and I'm definitely in the skeptical boat on this one. It felt like a less smooth Armored Core. It felt like it was a bit weak on the framerate, which made the controls a little rougher. It felt like mobility and lock range were the best stats, because once you locked onto something from a long distance you didn't have to think too much, and it couldn't escape from your field of view as easily. I do like the customization and interaction mechanics though, and I'd like to see some of the character modification tied more into the plot. Personally, I'm hoping for a heavily modified character to suffer more later on by being hacked or something along those lines., though that might not work well in a cost/reward manner.
I am a master's student currently enrolled in the Online Communities Course at Georgia Tech. I am here to observe the site but also for fun.I've been playing the demo off and on pretty regularly since it dropped, and haven't noticed any framerate problems.
What I have noticed is that the Trickster pistol seems kind of bad. Anyone else feel the same?
The final game could really benefit from gyro aiming.
Ukrainian Red CrossPlayed through the demo. Sad that we only got four missions, I was really getting into it.
Controls are a bit "Looser" than I expect, but I definitely started having more fun once I got used to them. Skating around weaving through missile barrages is awesome once you start filtering out all the visual chaos.
Ammo replenishment is always a priority too; I finished the fight against Sif and Reaper with two bullets left. That was intense. And unfortunately it's really hard to take down those floating ammo bag drones with a sword. >_<
Good thing I found out you could bring a spare weapon into the fight by the time I got to the last fight.
Bleye knows Sabers. So apparently the devs have fixed everything people criticised from the demo, which means that yes, the final game will have gyro controls (among other things). Woohoo! They read my comments!
But I'm actually bumping to point out that there will be a special edition. I admit, I'm tempted.
Ukrainian Red CrossWait whats gyro controls?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
Nah, They really seem similar to me, not just in design, but in animations too. I legit thought it was some kind of weird X spinoff when the trailer rolled in and I could almost swear some of the animations seems directly lifted from X.
The two shares much mroe similarities together than with other mecha animes I've seen. Although I don't watch gundam so that might not be saying much.
