As demonstrated before when somebody who liked this game abandoned this thread due to the negativity - I think y'all need to let this go.

The point that Betheseda is garbage has been made. Repeatedly. There is, or should be a "Betheseda-bashing" thread if we truly want to keep going "look at how far this corporate rabbit hole goes."

This thread doesn't need to be the place for rampant Complaining About Shows You Don't Watch.

Fallout 4 Melee was terrible.

1) Movement speed is slowed down to half while the melee animation occurs. If you have a movement speed modifier on your armor, movement speed is reduced to 0 while animation occurs.

2) Melee attacking while in stealth mode causes movement to STOP while animation occurs, making it useless against enemies that patrol an area, which is basically all of them.

Both of these issues were fixed for 76, making melee combat actually viable, and not just a quick way to die because your enemies have shotguns and grenades.

Well, I can't say anything about your experiences but Fallout 4 melee for me worked just fine. Zero issues going through that game with several melee builds.

Same thing. If anything Melee in Fallout 4 was op because of the perk that gives you a Flash Step in VATS, meaning you can effectively use it to teleport to attack enemies on rooftops.

All I wanted is for this game to be mediocre and cheap. Something I could buy down the line when it was lower-cost and just decent enough to enjoy, especially if a few friends came along for the ride.

Oh man, that is such a high bar that this game can't reach. I hear you can get it for $10; I don't think it's worth the price. And at the same time I'd feel like an utter jackass if I bought it because Bethesda obviously doesn't give a shit about fixing the game, not when important features can be sold for a subscription fee.

Don’t feel bad, the game is so broken that there is a high chance you couldn’t actually pay if you wanted to as it will just give you an error code.

Anyone wonders at what price will Fallout 76 be sold at during the Winter Sales? It would be somewhat humilliating if even Anthem is being sold at a higher price.

@blkwhtrbbt (what a name) Complaining About Shows You Don't Watch only partially applies here. With shows and movies, it is easier to just ignore them. With situations like Fallout 76, everyone who buys the Fallout First service encourages these business practices. Basically, they are ruining the video game market for the rest of us, by perpetuating the problem of outrageous prices with minimal content.

That is why we should not just let it go.

Exactly, if Fallout 76 had just been a buggy game, it would have been forgotten and swept under the rug like Mass Effect: Andromeda. However, the various controversies surrounding this game (Nylon Bag, Leaked user information), outright lying (The addition of pay-to-win mechanics, obligatory multiplayer); and, why not? Contempt for the player base (the infamous essay modders had to write and now Fallout 1st) is what makes it necessary to keep the talk going, we can't just pretend all of this is okay and let it slide.

Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, we should find the absolutes that tie us.

Even on a base level, this is a forum thread about Fallout 76. The whole Fallout First debacle is news about Fallout 76. People are thus discussing it, it's effects on the industry, and the ramifications of that. They're also giving their personal opinions about Bethesda and the game, because that's how discussion between people works. True, the forum has been primarily dominated by people with a vastly negative opinion of the game and it's creators, but by this point, one can hardly say it's unearned.

@Zhe Toralf There isn't necessarily a difference, I'd argue-someone watching a movie or television series encourages more movies or TV shows to be made like it.

With the game, I've only played a little bit of it, but it stopped running on my PC (strangely, not Bethesda's fault this time: my computer didn't meet the specs. I have since upgraded, though I haven't played it since then). I honestly thought the game was actually really fun, if definitely a different experience than other Fallout games I've played. Mind you, I've only played a little bit of it and I suspect that I'd tire of the game after a while.

I do think, to some extent, the game hasn't been given quite a fair shake due to its multiplayer being an Audience-Alienating Premise to some Fallout fans. This doesn't stop the game from being bad, though I would argue it causes a certain degree of Bias Steamroller and Right for the Wrong Reasons. It's not that flaws aren't there, more that they get more attention than they usually would.

Yeah, I was a lot more open to the idea of a multiplayer spinoff and no NP Cs. It's not supposed to be a traditional Fallout game, annd that's perfectly fine. Don't like it? Don't buy it. The problem is, while the idea had potential, it's been botched in many ways at this point. It also probably should have been F 2 P.

I missed the part where that's my problem.

True, but videogames and television/movies have a vastly different buisiness model. There are no lootboxes and microtransactions in television (at least, not yet).

In other news, dataminers have discovered and leaked almost the entire backstory for the main plot of Wastelanders.

    Spoilers
Basically the government started building a secret Vault, Vault 79, near Berkeley Springs, WV and quietly transferring its gold reserves there for national security. Some of the soldiers on guard duty in the town, led by one Kathryn Montgomery, stole 20 million dollars worth of gold from the Vault, and like any bunch of idiotic thieves they all went to Vegas to party.

The government caught up to them, killed her buddies in a shootout at the Ultra-Luxe, and cornered her in the Lucky 38 Penthouse, but she managed to escape. To cover up the existence of Vault 79, they cook up a story about how the Ultra-Luxe shootout was started by mobsters and that she's a chinese spy. The media eats it up and dubs her "Shanghai Sally." The chase went on for a week, apparently involving a stolen vertibird and multiple carjackings, until she was killed in Galveston, TX, while trying to flee the country on a stolen speedboat.

Some reporters got curious and started looking into it, discovered the coverup, and eventually somebody got wind of the secret Vault and tried to blow the whistle... right before the bombs dropped.

Years later, just as Appalachia is becoming survivable again thanks to the Vault 76 dwellers, people discover the whistleblower's letters to various media outlets and start flooding into the region in search of the gold.

@Zhe Toralf There are ways that they can be BS. For example, cancelling shows because toys don't sell, or cancelling a creative show in favor of making more "safe" content like formulaic sitcoms and reality TV. And yes, people watching other shows can be indirectly responsible for those sorts of decisions.

As for blaming the people giving money to things, it runs pretty quickly into a sort of Morton's Fork. If business models like microtransactions and lootboxes are manipulative (which I would say is broadly true), then people buying them are not to blame-they're the victims. Similarly, if they are not and people are spending money on them entirely of their own free will, then they're arguably not all that bad of a thing.

[up]It's possible for adults to gamble, drink, and use drugs effectively. But it's also possible for them to fall into addiction, and any company that purposefully tries to target and worsen that addiction is complicit. However, if an addict refuses to get help and ends up harming those around them, then they are also culpable.

There's also the point that many lootbox games target kids and teens: they can't gamble in normal ways like the lottery or casinos for a reason, and lootboxes are pretty much an unregulated version of those.

also. people with legitimate compulsive buying or gambling issues are who companies study how to target.

It just happens to help that other people will demonize the person with a problem rather than get them help or realize not everyone can just ignore the siren call of mTX manipulation

I can't wait to respec for archery.

Also thrilled for the massive new Vegas shootout.

Fallout 4 melee was acceptable, but 76 definitely smoothed it out. Seriously, it's really frustrating that the swing animation changes your movement speed. You cant time your swing and Action Points are too valuable to waste in VATS
