To be fair Geoff did say that is one of the reasons where going through non-legal means is more or less forgivable. If legal options aren't available, only non-legal ones are and on the flip side since they've chosen not to give people that options, the creators aren't losing anything from pirating it in the first place
That's relative. Regional licensing can be really screwy. And Australia and New Zealand (usually treated as a single region for licensing purposes) often get the short end of the stick when it comes to that. Small populations, even combined mean we don't benefit from commodities of scale means that for smaller series, unless someone like Crunchyroll picks up a worldwide license, it might not be economical for our local anime streaming service (Anime Lab, run by Madman Entertainment) to pick it up specifically.
I meant "If you live in america and complain about lack of access to anime, I'm just gonna be like 'Yeaaaaaaaah, riiiiiiight, we have less anime here than you guys do'"
Man Crunchyroll’s comment section for all their shows are full of people saying they can’t watch “X” show from where they are living in.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."The anime we CAN watch legally are still more than any human being has the time for. And people STILL torrent??
(I can confirm that, we have much fewer netflix shows than americans do and its still too much to watch them all if you want to do something else than just watch netflix with your life :P We have much smaller number of anime on netflix besides the netflix original ones)

Well, if you subtract all the shows that are crap, and add in the good ones that were never officially licensed, then yes.

I mean there are some high profile, big name shows that don't get streamed for a variety of reasons. Like the owners are overestimating the audience outside Japan and just asking for too much money. Or the famous Macross legal snarl which is only just starting to get untangled.

Tell me about it. Pretty much any time there's news or controversy regarding nerd interests, the worst people will flock to whomever makes videos that already agree with their stance on the matter. I've seen it happen mainly with topics that, for lack of a clearer way to empathize this, could cause these nerds to call you a SJW if you disagree with them.
That's not the case here since the topic isn't related to that, but it did happen as recently as last season over his video on You-Know-What. So, Geoff isn't a stranger to this type of treatment.

Geoff's got his Top 10 Openings for 2018 video up
disappointed Zombieland Saga didn't make the list, but Kokkoku totally deserves OP of the year
Bumbleby is best ship. busy spending time on r/RWBY and r/anime. Unapologetic SocialistFor a laugh, I watched Lord of Vermillion. Geoff was not kidding. I think the reason he didn't put in the list was because it's hilariously terrible.

Geoff talks about his recommendations for this year's winter season.
He definitely seems uncertain (if cautiously optimistic) about Shield Hero - I wonder if it'll indeed end up letting him down. What I've heard about it has definitely made me not want to watch it, whereas Geoff seems to have gone in with no spoilers.
Oh God! Natural light!Yeah, I can't see Geoff's optimism ending well. Even without the other issues at the very least the entire series gives the impression of being... mean spirited and bitter. Not that I've actually read it directly, it's just impressions from secondary sources and one crossover.
I haven't watched it yet but I share his concern. If the false rape accusation is just one mean spirited joke in a series about mean spirited jokes then it's not really that big a deal.
I guess it's like Goblin Slayer. I want to check it but everything I've heard about the first episode pushed me away.
The worst of the show's aspects that I looked up are going to play a part in the anime for sure, so I wonder what he'll think about it by then.
He made me curious about Kotobuki at least… And good thing he gave that warning about the other "girls flying planes" show because I first thought they were one and the same. >.>
Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo.New video about so-called "Pokémon clones", with a deliciously controversial thumbnail.
He makes a few good points, but I'd still say calling Digimon a Pokémon clone is stupid. Outside of evolving monsters fighting each other, the two series have next to nothing in common − it's like calling Gurren Lagan an Evangelion clone.
Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo.I don't think Yu-Gi-Oh is a Pokemon clone either. Besides the merchandise-driven nature, they're very different from each other in terms of plot and how the Pokemon/cards are treated (Pokemon are like real animals while the cards are treated more like weapons).
It's been 3000 years…It is more like calling both Eva and Gurren Lagann to be Gigantor clones. It was already a very established genre after all.
While I think calling Digimon a "clone" to be unnecessarily dismissive, I don't think it is unreasonable to say two evolving monsters who fight in behest of kids shares a clear similarity. More importantly, I find somewhat doubtful that an anime adapting a Tamagochi clone would be greenlit if it wasn't for Pokémon paving the way.
Again, I would agree that calling Digimon a clone is poor use of words. And Digimon made sure to differentiate itself and create its own very distinct identity. Just saying it is still clearly inspired by the Pokémon fame.

I like the history lesson but I think several of the subjects covered were better served in their own videos instead of being lumped together like this.
Edited by VeryMelon on Jan 21st 2019 at 7:36:25 AM
Yeaaah, these aren't things that should be lumped any more together than lumping every mecha anime into same video
Geoff talks about how he was scared by Resident Evil 2 as a kid.
I tried playing Resident Evil 2 once, and it fell more to the "bore me to death" horror camp.
Where there's life, there's hope.
I mean, I can't wait for the inevitable streaming service crash. There are already too many services with their own sets of exclusives for me to reasonably have access to everything I want to watch. That should happen naturally, however. People aren't going to subscribe to 6+ services to have access to everything. They'll weigh the costs and pick what they think is best. Everything else will have to crash and burn.
