RIP Klaxxohime. Best part of the damn show.

Welp...Just finished the show. What can I say? The ending is rather beautiful but bittersweet at the same time. Sad to see Hiro and Zero-Two died though, Although at the same time, glad that they're reincarnated... But have to admit that the main villain being a Karma Houdini is just bugs mejust bugs mejust bugs me me...But yeah. Final thoughts on the show: I enjoyed it a little bit even if I found the story a bit disjointed but yeah...

Most of the adult designs are uggos, but thank god Miku and Zorome have decent haircuts.

Welp that was a hot mess, and I'm not even sure why I watched it, the themes were all over the place but at least the dystopian narrative framework worked overall I guess

Hachi lost his scar and then recovered it the same scene. That make me giggle.

I'm kinda fond of him and Nana. Maybe is to their role as the Only Reasonable Adults in the entire series, but I'm fond of them. Well, that and Nana being sexy.

Hachi and Nana. The eternal babysitters of humanity. That's a really brave work.

This was...actually a quite good final episode detailing how they did rebuild the world. More series should do that instead of just "They rebuild it, look at this page and End".

It was nice seeing the gradual progress. It make it feel worthwhile.

Also. Adult Futoshi looks hilarious, which added to his job...yeah, he's likely gonna become a Latin American meme, he looks like a stereotypical Mexican Breadwinner, which is partially true which just make it better.

That was boring. And very unsubtle.

I won't lie, I have about a hundred different issues with this episode, both as a regular episode and as an ending to the series. But, screw it. It's over, and there's little point in kicking a dead horse. Not right now at least. Maybe later.

My opinions on the show should be obvious by now. I find this series a massive disappointment. It was fine until the middle, peaked in episode 13, and then went steadily downhill. I could go on for hours on why I think that and how I think it could be improved, but again, I've already done all that.

Here's hoping the next show Trigger's involved in does better.

find the idea of a half-alien girl losing her sentient sailor uniform evoking more pathos than two star-crossed lovers sacrificing themselves in order to save humanity absurd

It was sentient tho. There's nothing weird with feeling sad when a sentient character die.

That was boring. And very unsubtle.

How you can do "rebuild society" subtle? Besides not showing it at all?

I kinda got feeling that Virm did get wiped out but they did the whole "We are apex of evolution so as long something with souls is alive, we will come back" thing

Nah the center of the Hivemind is still alive but all the souls they gathered were released from the clip I saw with subtitles.

Gotta admit, for as much screentime they wasted, Mitsuru and Kokoro's kid being born was the best animated sequence in the whole show. Yes, the Beta Couple got the high budget scenes, not the main one. Go figure.

And they were surprisingly civil about it.

"Ok, guys, this is the final episode in the show. We have one last battle scene to animate. How do we do this?"

"ANIMATE EVERY INDIVIDUAL STRAND OF HAIR IN THE FORMERLY PREGNANT GIRL'S FACE!"

But in all honesty, the show has made no secret it prefers Kokoro and Mitsuru's story. Somebody really wanted to write a teenage romance drama and found no better place to put it in.

That was a reasonable ending to a reasonable series. It has giving me something of a hankering for a post-apocalyptic slice-of-life series though.

Girl’s Last Tour brah

I heard that’s a good one

Tbh, I don’t know how much attention this show would have got if it wasn’t for the advertising of Tirgger and the appeal of Zero Two being a sassy bitch in the beginning

As it is, I don’t want to make fun of people who are touched by this show, but I can’t say honestly that this was a good show overall. It’s pretty telling to me that the best episode I thought presented so far where I’m at was episode 13 and that’s a pretty clear indication of the show’s priorities with its premise.

So how can they rebuild a toxic dying planet? And for some reason that gently amuses me, VIRM still surviving is ... huh, kind of interesting.

At least Ikuno wasn’t a total joke of a character like Futoshi, feels bad to be fat comic relief

But yeah, I’d probably back up that one posters comment on how they handled her portrayal.

For a mecha show that’s well produced yet falls short, I’m reminded of Captain Earth, which was inoffensively mediocre in the end. I guess the main point of Darling was to celebrate human connections?? Now I just feel snarky about it if so because lol teen preganancy

Mitsuru and Kokoro having four kids was a bit much in terms of the getting people to have babies. I'm sorry Abe but I don't think anybody is that eager

Also does any other show have a Green Aesop as convoluted as "We don't abuse the earth's energy so we don't harm the magma creatures that live in it because now we know they fought a war for us long ago against the aliens who want us to transcend our fleshy bodies and only learned this after the aliens came back and tricked us into abusing the earth and subsequently the magma creatures to become immortal and not have babies"

[up] Can be simplified as "Don't abuse our natural resources, no matter what some greedy people at the top promises. We only have one planet and one responsibility towards it after all."

Also, another Aesop: "Live life to the fullest."

Overall, I enjoyed the series. Had the pacing been improved a bit more, and some of the filler trimmed down, I would easily give this show a really high rating. As it stands though, it is still a series that I had fun watching (especially when viewing it as more of a romance than an action show, which seems to have been the intent).

To borrow Jeremy Jahns rating scale, I'll say that Franxx is a good time, no alcohol required. tongue

Welp. Franxx is out out of my watchlist. Planet With is in. A net gain for me.

I liked Franxx, more or less, but it really tried me. I nearly dropped it twice. The pacing just wasn't there, and the ending really fell flat for me. Everything looked great (except the final Strelitzia) and it ran with some concepts I liked, but none of it really came together for me. It was a decent try, I suppose.

SSSS.Gridman will probably be better. I hope.

Man, finally got around to watching the finale.

See, my interest in this series starting dismissing pretty swiftly once the VIRM were introduced. It just started focusing more on fairly uninteresting plot, and less on the character dynamics that initially sold me on this show, and the character stuff that was there wasn't nearly as good. And I just stopped having the energy to really get into discussing this show- I stopped having strong feelings about it at all.

I am really glad Ikuno got a happy ending, though. It may be low bar to clear, but anime in general doesn't have the greatest track record when it comes to clearing it. But, well, the lesbian ended up alive and in a happy relationship with another girl, and I feel that's worth emphasizing.
