IDW Sonic the Hedgehog Comics General Discussion

So, I was wondering: how come the main comics are on hiatus right now?

Presumably behind the scenes stuff regarding IDW. Maybe them giving the artists more time to finish the modern issues.

I remember Bad Guys had some rushed coloring.

I think it's cause the Fang miniseries is in production.

#69's going to have some real action. Nice. That said, I have a hunch it will be a repeat of Chao Races & Badnik Bases, with the actual competition as just a framing device to be forgotten halfway through.

Outside of Infinite, me being open about disliking characters is not in my character. I mostly ignore them and move along. Hell, I didn't even hate that glasses girl and her cat-thing in Digimon Tri.

But somehow I feel an annoyance at seeing Lanollin in that Riders cover.

I still don't know how this scene is so cathartic to me. Issue 50 is definitely the peak for this series.

Im willing to bet this is explaining how Bean and Bark end up ditching Fang before Superstars, cause they definitely feel like theyve had enough of his shenanigains so far. Also what was up with that weird eggman logo?

I've been debating watching a recap or just rereading it all. I stopped after the Metal Virus saga and skimmed newer issues when the Pinocchio girl turned up.

Starline is interesting to me because I can't tell if he's a great character or a bad one. They've never surpassed Snively's potential in my mind. Starline can be an Eggman fanatic and do his own thing, but he can never really alter the status quo. Eggman can't kill him because this comic isn't going to be that edgy, and he can't kill Eggman because this isn't SATAM where Robotnik can genuinely die and be replaced.

So it feels like Starline is just a Schrodinger's Sidekick where he has actively fought being Eggman's collaborator and wants things to change, but for all of his bluster he's prone to making the same mistakes and not really accomplishing much of anything.

Also he's a duck and I've always disliked anthropomorphic ducks.

Snively was always the best because, unlike pretty much every single one of Eggman's other sidekicks:

• he wasn't an ineffectual moron
• his sass was funny to me moreso than Cubot and Orbot
• he had ambition to do things on his own
• he was in a continuity where people could actually be killed off, and I don't see IDW doing that

Sounds like you stopped somewhere near a very good payoff to your concerns. While recaps on youtube do exist, I think actually finding the time to read up on it to be very satisfying. I also think based on your concerns you'd probably enjoy the content leading up to issue 50, including the Bad Guys and Surge & Kit side comics.

Eggman sorta killed Starline but before that he totally destroyed him, his work ethic, and beliefs.

Issue 50 is regarded as the peak of the comic for Eggman. It started a trend of him just manhandling his opponents or trying to just shoot them.

I skimmed the Bad Guys part and I know Surge and Kit end up "dying," but after Starline got trashed and Zavok was free again I fell off. I'm not sure where or what story arc was called.

What, did Starline actually bite it or make someone else bite it?

He's cool(er now that he's not a duck) for bringing the Power/Speed/Flight mechanic from Heroes back, but again I'd doubt if he could ever truly do anything that would alter IDW's setting.

I would almost count Surge and Kit, but they had a Disney Death.

He actually died, he got crushed by rubble. Sonic's reaction was "Big oof."

Eggman completely dismantled him physically and mentally, and he was so thoroughly crushed he didnt notice rubble and got literally crushed. Technically a future writer could deem to bring him back since his body was never seen, but he was written as being gone for good for now, so yeah, he's donezo.

Surge and Kit are also big players from their creation on. IDW has the thing where the comic-original characters tend to be focused on more cause they can actually change, alter things, and grow compared to the mainly static game cast.

I'm surprised how popular Surge got. She immediately got playable in Forces Battle. It took Tangle and Whisper a bit of a while for it.

I think it's cause Sonic had never had a female Evil Counterpart before.
