California's just fine, and so is most of the country apparently. New York was the only city to get nuked, and from the looks of it the bomb was magnitudes stronger and more radioactive than the ones dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And while the Germans did send an invasion force to the east coast, they only encountered major military resistance for the first couple of weeks. The federal government threw up the white flag within that timeframe, and any military forces still resisting were cut off from supply and screwed, essentially. All that's left now is just whatever part of the civilian population is trying to incite rebellion.

As for why New Orleans was turned into a horrible favela/concentration camp/ghetto, I have no idea, but I suspect the city's culturally mixed history and large African American population played a major role. That's what several of the in-universe documents imply anyways; both a pro-nazi newspaper decries Mardi Gras as being a holiday that encourages debauchery and other "un-American" behaviors, and one of the German officers posted at New Orleans complains about how many different minorities have been crammed into the area.

Louisiana and New Orleans in particular has always been an odd duck in terms of the rest of the United States. It's after all, the only slave state in the Confederacy which had plenty of black members in its supporters as well as slave owners (which caused the other states to despise it). That was because of the French influence there.

But the answer to any question as to why the Nazis in Wolfenstein did X, the answer is For the Evulz.

And sadly, that's Reality Is Unrealistic.

So I just got introduced to the game through the Audition scene.

I have never cringed and laughed so damn hard.

Have you had a chance to play it yet? Or just watched the cutscenes via Youtube?

Reason I ask is because The New Colossus is one of those titles where you might end up enjoying the experience more as a cinematic one if the fast gunplay isn't your style. Not that I'm putting it down, just that I know some folks complained about it being too hard, whilst I found it either way too easy or unbelievably rage-inducing on the highest-levels. This game doesn't seem to have a middle ground much for some reason, though I suspect a part of it deals with how many options and upgrades you'll acquire later on making things a bit too simple.

Nah, I never buy AAA games unless they're, like, 90% sale or something.

I also have no interest in a shooter.

Although shooting Nazis sounds like fun.

But yeah, I loved the Close-Knit Rag Tag Bunch Of Misfits and the supernice and sensitive protagonist. Needs more gay, though.

The bit with the abusive bigot father hit very close to home. His end was a bit like all the other boss 'fights' here. After all their gloating and vileness, their relatively quick death comes off as them getting off easy. Needs more torture.

Got this game on Switch. Have some questions. Can weapon upgrades stack? Or can I only apply one at a time? What are the ideal weapon upgrades for each weapon?

Had to restart my game from scratch after starting Manhattan because the game doesn't provide a level select at the start. Also they weren't kidding when the navigation was a step down from The New Order.

Depends on the weapon.

For instance, you can have both the suppressor and the drum mag for the machine pistol, but you can't have the nail gun upgrade equipped with the suppressor.

For the Sturmgewher, I know the Jungle mags and AP ammo attachments can both work together, but never bothered with the marksman upgrade - the Lasercraftwerk did that job just fine. I believe all three mods can be equipped simultaneously, its not like they have features which overlap or are in contradiction.

The Lasercraftwerk can have all upgrades equipped; that I know from experience and making a point to max out that particular weapon first.

Don't remember the other guns too well, but I know the handgun wasn't very compatible if you equipped the magnum upgrade.

Yeah, I applied both the suppressor and the extended mag to the pistol, so that I can rapid-shot an enemy if I don't shoot him in the head during stealth sections. Stealth in general seems a lot tougher in this game, because I have no freaking idea where the officers are because the radar got nerfed.

So apparently the gaMe needs internet download and a SD card to get it on the Switch...damn.

Did anyone got the game without an SD card though?

Yeah, there's a reason why I don't want to grab a Switch yet. Nintendo REALLY needs to upgrade its memory so I don't have to buy a bunch of SD cards to make playing it practical.

I already got myself a 128 GB micro SD card for such a purpose. So far it's doing fine, although I won't be able to fully dedicate myself to digital-only purchases.

Alright, I have an itch for WW 2 shooters and I don't have World at War with me, so I've just purchased Wolfenstein 2 on the Switch.

Well, word of warning, it's not exactly a WWII game; it takes place in an Alternate History 1970s.

Alright, got through the first two chapters. I love how in the 70s everyone uses giant-sized versions of 40s weapons. Comrade Kalashnikov really failed us.

The first chapter was pretty annoying because moving in the wheelchair was so awkward. I do find the use of lifts and conveyor belts to be interesting. I wasn't able to make good use of the electric traps. It feels more convenient to just shoot the Nazis.

The second chapter is pretty good, thanks to the weapon selection widening. I lost most of my armor after the laser guys though. One thing I'm still struggling with is the fact that both weappn switching and picking up ammo are the same button.

I do love how people play the game differently.

My work friend called dual-wielding pretty much useless, which was news to me since I never went through a firefight without dual-wielding something.

Have you played The New Order yet? That game is a great deal more easy to play given the upgrade progression and hit recognition. Easier to navigate too.

I remember being way to fragile in NC.

Kinda made the gunfights rather dull since I was constantly hiding behind cover.

A shame that game wasn't released on Switch. I bought it on PC in anticipation of New Colossus on Switch.

It doesn't help that you can't actually replay missions in New Colossus, not properly that is. When the ability opens up you can at least revisit most locations to pick up any collectibles you've missed. Too bad for almost every instance, the places you revisit are radioactive wastelands, so you're stuck fighting hazmat guys.

Okay, so the Nazis have been holding up in a secret section of the U-boat. Did they stockpile their own food and water after they went into hiding? Did they somehow steal supplies from the resistance without anyone noticing?

I've upgraded the assault rifle. Now armored mooks and long range fights will be much easier. Upgrading the SMG to nail gun was a mistake.

The fight after meeting up with the New York resistance was really tough. Dozens of Nazis attack from every side, and they are accompanied by those godforsaken drones.

[up] Reading about the holdout Nazis in the bowels of your ship is intriguing. They totally where running almost completely out of food by the time you barge in there and slaughter them all.

I like it when a game sections off a group of enemies like that; rarely is it ever done so well.

My suggested upgrades for each weapon are as follows:

  • Pistol: Silencer first. It's unfortunate that it doesn't come with this by default. If you want a chance at sneaking past enemies, this is your number one priority. And it should be, because enemies hit hard even when your max health gets normalized. The magazine helps in a pinch. I wouldn't go magnum.

  • SMG: The drum mag means More Dakka, which is the strength of this weapon. The suppressor helps act as an emergency weapon in stealth too. Like you said, the nail gun is a mistake and should be avoided.

  • Assault Rifle: I like the jungle mags. Closest thing to extended mags. Armor piercing helps against tougher enemies. I wouldn't go with the marksman scope.

  • Shotgun: The rotor turns this weapon into an auto shotgun, perfect for heavier enemies. The extended mag helps too. I don't bother with ricochet gimmicks.

I love hearing banters on the U-Boat. I'm also a sucker for the Multinational Team too.

Ahhh, you would have loved the Euro-centric gang of misfits in New Order, especially if you opted to save Fergus and got Tekla in tow (saving Wyatt gives you J, who is also an American).
