Saw the show today, my favorite characters? skekGra and urGoh, I'm kinda hopping they retcon it so that these two remain hidden and survive to be reunited and I normally hate retcons.

I wouldn't mind two different final episodes to end the story on based on multiple futures. One that lead into the movie, and another where things turned out better, but still at great cost and the Heretic and Wanderer live.

[up]x2 Yeah they and the Mystics fit eastern mythology of the self. They weren't "evil" originally. Just action in its purest form combined with the things that drive action like desire, emotions, etc.

They were pretty too. They got real ugly as they indulged their worst desires and Darkening corruption. Considering how better looking and fitter Heretic and Hunter are in comparison despite being as old. While the Emperor is the most decrepit in the movie and show by stupidly harnessing Darkening and mistaking it for "power".

Interesting detail in the series about how the Skeksis and Mystics came apart from the Ur Skeks. There's a conversation between the Emperor and the General, where they discuss what life was like before they were rent asunder; and the torment and chaos of emotions they would be exposed to, if they were to become whole again: guilt and sorrow. The Skeksis don't feel guilt or sorrow, because the Mystics have those emotions. So when the Ur Skek broke into Mystics and Skeksis they both ended up as partials of a full set of emotions, and are both rendered dysfunctional because of this. The Skeksis are aggressive and frantic, where the Mystics are slow and passive.

The Skeksis are able to feel pain however, which makes me wonder if the Mystics feel pain at all. It could be, because we see hints of this here and there, also in the Dark Crystal movie (a Skeksis has their hand cut and bled, their equivalent Mystic also gets the cut in their hand, but just acknowledges it with a nod).

What other emotions are exclusively on the Mystics or the Skeksis?

The Skesis seem to be that whole thing of immortality leading to a loss of morals - they were always controlling and negative but moderated it. Then decadence began to take its toll and the whole essence thing turns them into addicts, ready to do anything for their next fix.

They're hedonists reveling in excess.

This series is amazing, but it's sad as we know how it ends - the Gelflings likely driven to hiding or massacred. Thra turned dark and grim. If there's a second season, I wonder if they're just going to lay the groundwork for the film, which will be bleak as anything. By Jen and Kira have to come from somewhere.

There's anactive/passive nature separated between them and their Mystic counterparts.

Due to always indulging their desires and not having the foresight and inhibitions their passive counterparts have means they'll just get worse and worse unless they actively do something to change it, or try their hardest to not indulge their worse traits.

Like for their part the Mystics aren'f really "good" so much as so passive and lacking in worldy desire that it makes them indifferent to the suffering around them as they wait for a promised time. Only a few like the Archer or Wanderer take a more active role in trying to be more than that, and in the latters case both him and Heretic go out of their way to contrast themselves to be less assertive and passive. Dressing in light colors and having brighter skin in the Heretics case, dressing in darker clothes and having a darker tone than the Mystics in Wanderers. Also doing lots of drugs helps both.

Do we know how many seasons this will get? It being a prequel there's only so much they can do with the story. They've also killed three of the six Skeksis that died before the movie already so unless they want to really drag out their villains they can't have that many more newcomers. If they can plan to end it by season 3 I think that would be ideal.

Some of the story has also been told in the Comics (The mariner, for example) but not sure how much or if they'll adapt it in for the next season.

Apparently, according to the Radio Times, they have a document complete for season 2.

But really, what next? Watching 10 episodes of Garthim wiping out the Gelfling?

Deet needs to be resolved. As well as the question of why the Skeksis just left Aughra alone in her Orrery for all that time.

She didn't spend all her time looking at the stars, she got off it and interacted with folks on occassion. Thus why she knows her currently Podling caretaker is the grandchild of the one she interacred with 100 years.

She apparently interacted with the Skesis in the past after they separated too, which is why she tries to make the Scientist remember their camaraderie(The Skesis don't remember anything about being Urskeks, who she gave the crystal to originally), which means she interacted with them back when they were friendly, if crazy fun party goers before they descended into decadent madmen.

Personally I'm interested in seeing skekLi the Satirist next season, I just want to know what kind of personality they'd give to a Skeksis who's primary job is entertainment.

[up][up] I'm talking about why they left her alone in the gap between Season 1 finishing and the film - that's a LONG time. And we know they know where she is AND that Garthim can get there. If she's been a threat for this long, were they too scared to challenge her or... did they think she wasn't a threat once all the gelfling they could find were dealt with?

The Satirist... yeah that'll be interesting.

Do we know all the Skeksis? The movie had 10 of 16 and this season introduced four new ones. That leaves only two spots which seem to be filled by the Mariner and the Satirist.

I've started watching this. Just completed the first episode. Quite charming.

But really, what next? Watching 10 episodes of Garthim wiping out the Gelfling?

There is still the matter of the Satanist and the Mariner. If there are more seasons, I suspect these two will not survive. So I imagine there will be some success for the Gelflings. I imagine we'll see more than one Hope Spot throughout the story. Only to see them destroyed.

I do think watching the Gelflings slowly lose would be a powerful and sad story, if done correctly. But there probably can't be a whole season of that; it could work for a final two or three episodes, though.

I hope we get to see the Emperor's body fall apart before the end. Let's see him decay into that bedridden state.

Next season we get to see the brutal slaughter of the Arathim by the Garthim to the Gelfings horror!

Just watched it. I love it.

I honestly would not mind if the show went full Alternate Continuity or, perhaps, a midquel path showing the Resistance's actions during the course of the film (somehow).

I wouldn't mind two alternate last episodes. One leading directly into the movie, and one where they win.

That could work as well, though I'd be curious to see what they could do if they went on a hypothetical midquel route.

And now I've finished this up. Really charming, engaging, and wonderful visuals on top of that. Too bad this isn't gonna end well for Thra and the Gelflings (poor poor Deet) considering what it's a prequel to, unless they decide to make it an alternate continuity or something.

A "character" I absolutely loved was the Arathin Ascendancy. Intriguing concept and excellent execution.

Also, Hup is the hero we deserve.

I heard the original Dark Crystal film was fairly popular in Japan and that made me wonder, how popular is Age of Resistance in other countries?

A word of warning: the show is quite heavy on Nausea Fuel when it comes to the Skeksis, so don't watch it while having lunch. Seriously.

The show is awesome and I cant wait for the next season. One problem I have with it though is that they inserted some gay characters who have no bearing on the plot and add nothing to The Story.

Deet casually mentions that she has "two fathers" ok but what the hell happened to your mom? Those guys didn't have you and your baby brother.

Also considering how revered females are in Gelfing society with every leader of each tribe being a woman. And since they're all called Maudras, which I'm assuming is their word for mother, Deet's two dads are living outside the norm in Universe
