I guess we don't need a thread for every You Tube pundit, but eh, I like the guy's vids.

Guy's a Something Awful goon who does videos where he analyzes media (mostly video games) and also videos where he makes fun of alt-right folks like thunderf00t, Sargon of Akkad, and especially Davis Aurini.

For example, his hour-and-a-half thing about what he considers the failings of Fallout 3 (which is probably his most popular vid).

"Officer Kendall isn't the victim of the Lone Wanderer. He's a victim of bad writing."

I remember stumbling on his video on Davis Aurini and his sheer madness. And skulls.

What I love about him is that his videos never feel like rants. They build up a great case by revealing just how ridiculous the other side is, and keeping things light on his own end too.

While I'm ambivalent about his more 'goonpinions'-y videos, if that makes any sense to anyone, his videos on reactionary cranks are consistently hilarious and often surprisingly insightful. They're a good supplement to more "serious" videos on the same subjects like Innuendo Studios' "Why Are You So Angry?" and Folding Ideas' video about base assumptions and #GamerGate, and while less overtly sympathetic also manage to be humane while giving their subjects a well-deserved drubbing for their horrifying ideas.

Mhmm. They're very entertaining. Though I do have a couple quibbles. I thought that one bit where he made a potshot at Sargon's unfinished kickstarter project was a bit of a cheapshot and a non-sequiter, and his video on Jordan Owen kinda seemed like... kicking a guy while he's down. Based on his askfm and other stuff he does seem to be a lot more charitable to Owen than Aurini (which I think is the fairly common opinion, really).

The thing about Carl Benjamin is that he hitched his wagon to this creepy movement claiming it was all about "ethics in game journalism" and then, just... yeah, I think it's worth taking a potshot at him for that. The man is incredibly pretentious and overconfident in his own abilities. That said, he's maybe the least objectionable GG mouthpiece that I can think of, insofar as I think that he does mean well at heart despite his glaring lack of self-awareness, and he does seem willing to occasionally admit to being wrong or that the other side has a good point. Maybe he'll grow up one day. I have no idea.

In the meantime, god, that petition is just shooting fish in a barrel...

I no longer feel bad about fitness woes.

How fitting that a white nationalist's view of victory and debate is running around killing random folks.

Kind of surprised that Hbomb chose to say that white nationalists like Golden One are ultimately harmless and in a cage of their own making. After this year in politics resulted in, um, this, I wouldn't think they're completely devoid of influence and misleading. Perhaps it's meant as comfort they will be overcome next time. Who knows.

I think it's more he's talking about this guy in particular. And I think that's fair, 'cause this guy is... kinda just a buffoon. I'm glad the video didn't go particularly mean-spirited.

I took it as referring to self-described "alphas" in general. Which while AFAIK they usually aren't dangerous in the sense of acting physically violent, the ones who just stick to internet tough guy antics still contribute to radicalizing the ones who are physically violent. Even if it weren't for the ones who are physically violent, the internet tough guys harass (and dox) people so much that I can't agree with saying they're not very dangerous.

Bethesda's claim of "please delay reviews until a few days into the game's release because multiplayer" reminds me of when Destiny did that a few years earlier. Sure makes more sense now with how cut down the game was released as.

I found hbomb and several other feminists (or sometimes more like anti-anti-feminists) on YT a few months ago and it was a great relief to know YT wasn't just run by shitlords.

Though, I wanted to ask you all if this is veering too into politics? Hbomb does other stuff but I was thinking of making a thread for another YT channel - ContraPoints- and I wasn't sure if I should because his channel is 100% politics.

As long as discussion remains civil, discussion of politics and people who do youtube stuff about politics are not forbidden on this site. You want to start a thread about Contrapoints, go ahead. The mods have forbidden talk about certain events and persons, but only after it was repeatedly proven people couldn't behave themselves with those topics.

I, for one, find hbomberguy hilarious. Particularly when he laughs; it's oddly infectious every time he does it. Doesn't matter what he's laughing at, he just sort of always gets a reaction from me over it.
