Personally I hope not. I much prefer the actual tagging characters being the assist and that system just screams potential wastes of people that might actually work as characters.
Besides, this wouldn't be the first 2v2 Capcom Vs. game to have the assists be the tagging characters.
For Those who Seek the Thrill of Death: A Dramatic SMT3 Hard PlaythroughEh. There are certain characters who just don't lend themselves well to full on fighting that it'd still be nice to see in a cameo.
DLC is inevitable, so any assist only characters popular enough could also make the jump to playable, potentially.
Just give me Asura and The Hulk, with either Mickey Mouse or Mario as DLC.
It's been 3000 years…Speaking of, since it's 2vs2, i wonder if specific character paring will have unique team intros like in Street Fighter x Tekken, i liked that.
"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"Capcom always does stuff like that in crossovers when the other side does in their core games (thus the multitude of special intros in Capcom vs SNK). So probably not.

Judging by the conical shaped spike that is pretty synonymous with Mega Man's art styles on the villain's right wrist in the trailer, I'd say it's pretty obvious that it's Sigma we're dealing with.
I'd also say given the amount of Legacy Characters Marvel has created over the past half a decade, alot of them just scream being assist characters.
The other thing to consider if there are assist only characters is no more happy birthdays, which IMO has been pretty integral to the Capcom Vs. series since Marvel 2.
Basically I'd really, really prefer no assist only characters.
For Those who Seek the Thrill of Death: A Dramatic SMT3 Hard PlaythroughThings like happy birthdays are half of why Marvel 2 and 3 are so impenetrable to casuals. I think moving away from the entire cast having touch of death combos and things like that will be for the better.
I agree about touch of death but happy birthdays were hype because it forced good assist calls. It had nothing to do with deterring casuals imo.
For Those who Seek the Thrill of Death: A Dramatic SMT3 Hard PlaythroughAgreed. I also noted that in the press release they made a point of saying the game would be great for newcomers, and I imagine that was part (aside from the obvious) of the motivation for ditching the numbering from the title and focusing on the MCU in the first place.
Technically, the numbering is still there.
"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"I just hope Sigma and Ultron get separate character slots and Ult-Sigma/Sigmatron is a boss exclusive character.
Stella ~Part 3 (Atelier Shallie)So what will the fifth game be, then? Marvel vs. Capcom ω? Bragging rights for anyone who gets that
"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."Depends on the roster count if the number is 20 before dlc and unlockables then I think we won't get them first.
Mileena MadnessFrank Tieri, the comic writer who did the dialogue and endings for MVC 3, is involved with Infinite.
My hope for the duo is this: Ultron and Sigma are the Final Boss as a Tag Team. When you beat them, the two combine and act as the traditional MVC Giant Boss.
@Targetmaster Joe I had actually predicted Ultron as one of the main villains originally, since Avengers: Age of Ultron was new at the time. However, while I thought of Sigma as a potential secondary villain, I hadn't mentioned him. Although I do think making those two the big bads is a fantastic idea. Hell, when I heard the rumors about it being subtitled "Infinity War" I thought they were about to bring back Thanos as the final boss.
(Also, I made that guess ALMOST THREE YEARS AGO OH MY GOD I'M AGEING INTO DUST AND BONES BEFORE MY EYES)

A corpse should be left well enough alone...I sure hope Amaterasu and Phoenix Wright make a return.
"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."If Phoenix comes back, he'd be in his Dual Destinies onwards outfit. I'd also want his Level 3 to be updated to have Apollo and Athena join in on the conviction, as a homage to Case 5-5.
A corpse should be left well enough alone...And if there are assist characters, I'd love to see either Godot throwing a coffee mug at the opponent's face or Franziska whipping some sense into them.
"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."I was just about to say Fransizka would be great.
Make her play like Whip from KOF.
I wouldn't worry about DOOM. He's been ungergoing a kind of rebranding. Kind of. He's been a general Marvel villain for a while, but he's had a heavy presence in Iron Man lately. Look up the Infamous Iron Man to see what I mean.
EDIT: Also, technically the numbering is not there. Infinity is not a number. Its an abstract concept of something beyond numbers. Numbers literally cannot contain the full measure of infinity.

Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireIf the characters do have official partners like in Street Fighter x Tekken, who would be paired with who?
Except it is, the Infinity symbol is an eight and this is the eighth game in the series.

"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"
Actually with Resident Evil 2 Remake coming soon it would make sense to use those characters as the RE reps unless you want the guys from "Welcome to da family, son!" game. :P
