Yeah, but they're still a minority. It would be easier to TLP that with a new name, and turn this into disambiguation between Cross-Dressing Voices, Vocal Dissonance and the new trope.
That doesn't mean there's "nothing to save". And I don't see what's wrong with the name anyway.
Check out my fanfiction!I don't mean there's "nothing to save". I mean you move over the correct examples to a TLP and use it as the next step to fixing the trope, as is sometimes done. And people obviously find the name confusing, "larynx" being a somewhat technical term. They confuse it for either Vocal Dissonance or Cross-Dressing Voices.
Crowner hooked.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportBumping for votes. While two options are in the green, one of them depends on another entry that at the moment is breaking even.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportA wick check to prove people confuse it with Vocal Dissonance:
- A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night
- Larynx Dissonance: While intimidating the Urchin, the Girl's voice becomes inhumanly gravelly and demonic.
- Allison And Lillia
- Larynx Dissonance: Will sounds rather young for 17.
- Conan
- Larynx Dissonance: (in high-pitched voice) "I'm Thor!"
Also, looking through the wicks I can see the examples which actually follow the description, as opposed to the ones on the page which are mostly either misuse or ZCEs.
New option added to the crowner. I must say, after seeing actual good examples, I've changed my mind about merging.

Bumping for votes; the rename option needs three more total votes before we can safely call this.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope Reportis 11 yays enough for the rename option?
Reagrdless of the results of the mrge rename crowner, I've edited the Laconic of Larynx Dissonance to this:
"A person trying to sound like the opposite gender often just sounds... wrong."
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I'm seriously confused by this whole thing. Isn't the trope's definition "A man with a woman's voice/a woman with a man's voice"?
That laconic is accurate enough, I believe.
Check out my fanfiction!Calling the rename option. Now, time to think of possible new names.
Disambig option, meanwhile, has too low of a ratio for consensus.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportNot too bad. Been thinking about it for a while, but nothing's come up that's both descriptive enough to avoid misuse and brief enough to actually be a name.
Maybe Cross Gender Voice Fail?
Check out my fanfiction! Is "fail" part of the definition?
Well, it can be deliberate, so it doesn't cover absolutely everything. You can also argue that's deliberately invoking the trope, which would not be a straight example, but playing with it.
Check out my fanfiction! So, is there a trope for "A woman is obviously voiced by a man or vice versa" or is that covered by Cross-Dressing Voices?
I don't know, but from reading the trope is seems that the trope is when a Crossdressing Voice is poorly done; a female voice that is unnaturally deepened or a male pitching his voice to falsetto because they thing the pitch is the only thing that matters..

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.So this would be YMMV?
No. Why do you say that?
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it."The trope is when a Crossdressing Voice is poorly done." Unless you only count deliberate examples, in which case there would be better ways to define it.
Um, wouldn't "Trope Y is Trope X but done badly" be a bad thing?
We don't need justice when we can forgive. We don't need tolerance when we can love. The "done badly" part is more of a Watsonian concern than a Doylist one. Cross-Dressing Voices is also explicitly about voice actors, while this one also includes characters doing impersonations.

Crown Description:
What would be the best way to fix the page?
There are a bunch of examples that follow the description, depending on interpretation.
