A Game of Gods Season 3: Terminus

Go To

There is a legend spoken across a myriad of worlds, a tale of a tower between worlds. Called the Tower of War by some, the Devouring Tower by others and the Tower of Gods by most. The story goes that at a time of great conflict and crisis, a great Tower appeared. A construct of jet black metal, it stretched into the skies to a height where none could see the top. And at the base of the Tower, a black and gold gate unlocked.

Here, the stories diverge. Some tell of a band of heroes emerging, bringing an end to dictators and those who would let conflict rage. Others tell of demons and evil beings spilling out from the Tower and covering the world in an eternal darkness. And others say that those who dared to enter never returned.

But all tales agree on one point. After a period, sometimes days, sometimes years, the Tower vanished, leaving behind a world forever marked by its arrival and legends in its wake. And the fate of those whom the Tower had swallowed was left in the hands of the Gods.

Greetings traveller, and welcome to the Tower. You have been chosen to climb its steps of black stone and seek the top where the Ruler awaits. Me? I am but a blind locksmith, forever cursed to lead those who would climb the Tower and explain how to proceed. At the top of this Tower awaits your reward should you succeed. Riches beyond your imagination, knowledge that surpasses that of the greatest thinkers, weapons that would pluck the sun out of the sky and treasures of technology that would make anyone a king of their world. And, should you wish to, a way home, just how you left.

Oh, do I sense hostility? Rebellion? Righteous anger, directed towards the Ruler for taking you from your home? Oh yes, you would not be the first. Certainly, the one responsible for your being here also awaits at the top. Would you like to strike them down? Take revenge for your treatment? Or take on the mantle of Ruler of the Tower yourself?

Yes, yes! For such is the nature of the Tower! At the top, your heart’s greatest desires! But to win, you must play the games that the gods dictate!

Ah, now you are listening? You wish to know how to play? Very well. You will climb the Tower one floor at a time. Each floor have the stairs to the next floor, locked. But each floor also has a black and gold gate that leads to a different world, locations unimaginable or locales familiar. From that world, a world embroiled in chaos and strife, you must locate the key that will grant you passage to the next floor. Will it be the crown of a king? The last coin of a beggar? The song of an animal? I will be able to tell you what it is, but you must find it by yourselves. And then you return here, and you can progress to the next floor.

A simple idea, but a difficult task. Travel the myriad of worlds that this Tower connects to, recover the keys and climb! Ascend towards the heavens, towards the reward that awaits above!

Climb!

Rules

First of all, please respect the forum rules and the RP subsection rules.

One character per player, please. We’d also like to keep powerlevels at a reasonable standard, but anything can be nerfed. Even if you think your character is too powerful, send them our way and we’ll discuss it. Rule of thumb, though: if your character can cause or fix natural disasters single-handedly in a short length of time, expect some nerfs.

Please keep to general R Ping etiquette. No ghosting (simply ignoring any attacks sent your character’s way); no autohitting (whether your character’s attack lands is up to the other player, not you); no taking control of other people’s characters, etc. Of course, these being etiquette and not laws, you can make breaches if they’re discussed with the other player beforehand.

The only real rule is that GM rulings are final, and must be obeyed, though if you have objections these rulings can be politely discussed. The GMs for Season 3 are Meanken, Makaioh and Lemurian.

  • Name: Sumireko Usami
  • Age: Well, she's in high school, so...16?
  • Appearance: She puts on her robe and wizard hat.
  • Universe: Touhou Project someone stop me before i post again
  • Personality: More than anything, she is a loner. According to her it's not that she can't make friends, it's that she doesn't need friends, and that if she wanted to she could totally make them herself. Baggage like that only distracts from her studies, you see! Moreover, "normal people" are really boring in her eyes, and not worth the time of day. She does make quick friends with an immortal hobo girl, for instance, but she'd probably pass up any mundane person without a second thought. In the same way, she tries to distance herself from mundane things and activities, finding them boring. She comes across as some kind of arcane hipster because of it. Despite her case of narcolepsy, she's diligent and is a model student aside from falling asleep in class all the time. Sumireko also has a slight case of the mysterious Japanese disease "chuunibyou", which means she's a dork who thinks of herself as a great magician. Because she's actually a magician, though, it goes to her head.
  • Backstory: Sumireko had always looked down on those around her, and with good reason. She's psychic, so that means she's automatically better than normal people! After conducting years of research on the hidden world of the mystic on the internet, and somehow actually finding reliable information, she created the occult Secret Sealing Club just to look like she was a nutcase and make sure nobody would talk to her again. It was a success! Now that that was taken care of, she used her nascent skills to break into the land of fantasy called Gensokyo, where she got beaten up by every individual she met. After almost killing everyone, she resolved to find a less dangerous means of entering the place, and just astrally projected herself whenever she slept. She's probably an unwitting pawn of a one-winged moon goddess, which tells you what kind of series this is.
  • Powers/Equipment:
    • ESP: Just because you're psychic doesn't mean you can read minds! Her abilities can be neatly divided into four subsections.
      • Telekinesis: She can move things...with her mind! It has a weight limit of about 500 pounds, and a range of about 20 feet. She can also freely move herself in the air using the same ability.
      • Pyrokinesis: She can create fire...with her mind! By thinking of it, Sumireko can create trailing bursts of flame within about 10 feet of herself.
      • Hydrokinesis: She can create water...with her mind! Because you need something to put out the above's forest fires, she can freely generate about a bucket's worth of water a second.
      • Teleportation: She can move herself...normally, but also with her miiiiind! Limited to 10 feet, and sight range.
    • SHE'S GOT A GUN: She carries a 3D-printed pistol and two rounds, but it'll be a miracle if it doesn't shatter after one shot.
    • Magic Picture-Stone: Always at her side is a strange thing that can contact other people remotely just by talking to them, bring up almost universal information with no cost, display any image the mind can imagine and also check train schedules. It's called an iPhone 6s.
    • Slightly Larger Magic Picture-Stone: It's an iPad.
    • Occult High-School Girl: Though second to her psionic abilities, Sumireko is a self-taught magician! Both, in the sense of "stage-magician" and, you know, actual magic. Since her knowledge on this mostly extends to what she could find on the internet, she's not exactly a world-class wizard or anything. She'll recognize magic when she sees it, and can work with magic rituals if presented to her.
  • Why was she chosen to climb the Tower?: Because what we're missing here is a Japanese High-School Girl. and 20 more touhous someone help

  • Name:River Tam
  • Age:17
  • Appearance:"Also? I can kill you with my brain."
  • Universe:Firefly (before Serenity)
  • Personality:River is, put simply, insane. When she is normal, calm and lucid, she is pleasant, sweet and kind and a bit mischievous. When she is not, she varies between blabbering random stuff and being incredibly destructive. She is prone to throwing tantrums when in this state, and being rather...odd. This is mainly due to the fact that her amigdala was stripped, which means she cannot filter her emotions, and, as a psychic, picks up the emotions of everyone around her. She is incredibly intelligent (when lucid) and a natural prodigy at, well, everything.
  • Backstory:Born to a rich family on one of the most developed planets, Osiris, River had a wonderful childhood, learning and playing with her older brother, Simon. Everything changed [[strikethrough: when the Fire Nation attacked.]] when she was 14, and she was given the opportunity to attend a highly prestigious Alliance academy. For the next three years, River was experimented on in order to create a psychic super-soldier. When she was 17, her brother broke her out, and placed her in cryo. She woke upon the cargo/transport/smuggling ship Serenity.
  • Powers/Abilities:
    • River is...complicated. She has the ability to read thoughts and emotions, as well as limited precognition. She has a tendency to foretell the future in a nursery rhyme type-way, as well as the seeming ability to see right to the heart of events that shaped a person. Due to the aforementioned stripping of the amygdala, however, she feels everything she reads. She also has some ability to pick up residue of emotions and thoughts at places, though it only seems to work with strong emotions. It's also hard to tell if there is an outward limit to her range, but it seems to be about a kilometre.
    • Within her mind is combat and firearm prowess, though, as of the point I'm taking her from, she only has access to the firearm ability. There are triggers for her combat prowess, as well as words that can put her to sleep. Her fighting style is a kung fu/kick-boxing/ballet hybrid, mixed with the ability to be really, really good with weapons.
    • She is an excellent dancer, and loves it.
    • In her mind is a terrible, terrible secret that she is not aware she has. If the secret is discovered and solved, River will improve rapidly, becoming much more lucid and less crazy. It's about the planet Miranda (I can PM you if you want me to, or you can read the synopsis of the movie. Beware of spoilers, though).
  • 'Nerfs:"Precognition is limited to a couple of seconds warning, emotions and 'event' reading requires player permission and thought reading is cut entirely.
  • Why has she been picked to climb the Tower?I've wanted to play her forever and I'll feel like she'll be a good fit.

River Tam: I'm afraid that there is a blanket ban on precognition and mindreading powers. Emotions reading is acceptable as long as long as you as a player do not use this to decide what other characters are feeling, and I would advise caution in the usage of this ability on other player character. Similarly, the ability to "see right to the heart of events that shaped a person" is only accepted as long as you get the all-clear from the player of the character you're planning on using it with.

Normally I would suggest you rework the problematic abilities to something less objectionable, but seeing as these are central powers to your character, I do not know how viable this is. A very limited precognition window (say, a couple of seconds) could potentially be acceptable, but I am having a hard time thinking of a way to balance her mind-reading. If you have any suggestions, however, I am all ears. smile

Also, a question about the potential "improvement": would this include her getting more direct control of her mental powers?

The improvement is more that she becomes more lucid and calm, instead of any control over her abilities.

Couple of seconds precognition is fine, mainly because she's generally very vague about what she see's anyway. With the mind-reading, it tends to be things along the lines of what the person was going to say or the very top layer of thoughts, if that helps at all.

Sign up: Doctor Who, the 11th of his name

  • Name: The Doctor
  • Appearance: Doctor Who?
  • Personality:The Doctor has been many things over the years, his past selves varying in their personalities like the colours on a rainbow. He's been serious, he's been mad; he's been eccentric and he's been caring. He's been ruthless, cold, and proud. The 11th incarnation is a bit of all those. He's a wild one, but his wildness is toned down- he's weary now and it isn't above him to hang around in a cloud and read books for a hundred years. He's still loud, and he rambles; but he's intelligent and he's a stubborn one. When pushed to it, he can still be ruthless.

  • Powers:
    • Intelliegence: As a Timelord, he's smart; uncommonly smart. His brain ticks over at a terrific speed, allowing him to think things through before you can say the word Geronimo! With this intelligence comes a knack for figuring out technology- any kind of technology, whether he's seen it or not. He can hack the pentagon with a Nokia brick- think on that. Complimenting all these things is his handy Sonic screw driver and it's hilariously vague set of abilities.

    • Two hearts and an Alien biology: Another Time-lord benefit- poisons and hazardous materials don't affect him nearly as much as it would normal people. He can survive heart attacks, heavy falls, getting hit by laser blasters etc. Slightly above-human survivability.

  • Equipment:

    • The Sonic screwdriver: Does everything that can be classified as a non-aggressive action. It will repair machinery, scan creatures, air, soil, quantum physical fluctuations; cause EMP's, short circuit electronics, Hack electronics, operate electronics, kill Daleks (Daleks beware). Oh, and it can translate unknown languages.

    • The TARDIS (Time and relative dimensions in space): The Doctor is the madman and this is his box. The Tardis from the outside is just a simple blue police box and weighs about as much as a normal one. Inside, it is a time machine capable of traveling anywhere in all of time and space, fitted with library, swimming pool, games room, pool table, bar, engine room (you must never go there or be turned into a time paradox). The Tardis itself is sentient and can operate itself if needs be. It can also throw people into a time loop and do all sorts of weird time things, such as making you talk with yourself from yesterday, but let's not go there. The Tardis is fairly indestructible despite its humble appearance and it's door cannot be opened by force if locked. The Tardis can also generate force-fields, become invisible and shrink in size for handy transport. Many of these powers are negligible, especially those to do with time loops and what not.

  • Backstory: The short abbreviated version The Doctor is an alien from the planet Gallifrey. He was a bit strange in the head and one day decided to run off with a broken Tardis to see the universe. He's had many adventures since, utilizing all 12 of his regenerations in the process. As the 8th doctor and the War doctor, he fought in the great time war that occurred between his people the Time lords and the Daleks of Skaro. He killed them all. 2 doctors later and here he was, Rory and Amy were gone, trapped in old Manhattan by a stupid coincidence.

That is my sign up. At least, for a brand new Doctor.

If I am allowed to usurp Fusionman's doctor, I'd gladly do so.

@Chabal: Also, I'm terribly sorry for missing your question for almost a month! D: I am afraid I know too little about those characters to give a straight-out yes or no, but if there are certain elements you fear might put them on the fast-track for rejection, you can just describe them to me and I can give you a preliminary consideration (without you having to write up the whole character). smile

Aw, I like making writeups.

Let's see, Bjorn the MountainFell-Handed is a particularly hard-to-kill Astartes Dreadnought who goes to sleep between missions, Bjorn Stormwolf is a loud, aggressively jovial Wolf Lord who prefers firepower over subtlety, and Njall creates storms that slowly increase in power just by being around and can use Anti-Magic.

Herewith, Njal of the Vlka Fenryka. Naturally, on this most serious of days I have taken strenuous pains to nerf each and every last one of his abilities to the very limit of usefulness.

  • Name: Njal Stormcaller (originally Njal Stormsson).
  • Age: Unknown
  • Appearance: Space Viking Berserker Shaman (and bird).
  • Universe: Warhammer 40 K
  • Personality: Rune Priests are aloof figures in Fenrisian mythology, for they have knowledge of sagas and shamanic traditions far beyond mortal men. Such is their degree of mysticism that they are allowed to act independently, often keeping to themselves in order to better read the runes and guess at the future. But in battle, they are as furious and loud as any of their brothers, striking with weapons and psychic might at the foes of Fenris. Their fury is directed against not only the foes of the Imperium, but those who would commit flagrant injustice in its name, casting aside honor in the name of secrecy.
  • Backstory: Njal Stormsson was a tribesman of Fenris who showed such courage in battle that he was rescued from death by a Rune Priest, to begin his training as one of Fenris' legendary Sky Warriors. Njal's psychic powers made him one of the greatest warriors from that planet, if not the entire Imperium. His greatest feat was to obliterate a Bloodthirster of Khorne, his powers ripping through the magical protection afforded by the daemon's heathen god, then summoning an ice storm to shred its minions. Known as the Stormcaller afterwards, he has continued to serve his Chapter as the High Rune Priest.
  • Powers/Abilities/Equipment:
    • Rune Priest Powers: Rune Priests channel the spirits of Fenris, invoking rock, lightning, ice and wind to destroy their foes. Some believe it to be an entirely separate source of power than the Warp, and thus free of its taint, others believe this to be a delusion. Regardless, their use on the battlefield is among the most awe-inspiring sights Russ' Folk may hope to witness.
      • Living Lightning: The Rune Priest sends a thunderbolt from the sky which leaps from enemy to enemy, leaving behind charred bodies.
      • Tempest's Wrath: The Rune Priest calls upon the spirits of the air to destroy those who intrude on their domain, casting them onto the hard ground below.
      • Jaws of the World Wolf: The Rune Priest demands of the earth that it split open into a great chasm, swallowing his enemies.
      • Murderous Hurricane: The Rune Priest's very breath becomes a raging icestorm, raining thousands of ice shards into the enemy.
      • Storm Caller: The Rune Priest summons a furious maelstrom of wind and ice that obscures him and nearby allies from enemy sight.
      • Fury of the Wolf Spirits: Summons the ghostly forms of Freki the Fierce and Greki the Cunning from the netherworld, two enormous wolves whose very howls cause terror among the enemy.
      • Thunderclap: By clapping his gauntlets together with a chant, the Rune Priest is able to amplify the sound into a stone-breaking shockwave.
    • Lord of Tempests: The raging winds of Fenris are Njal's to command, and his mere presence on the battlefield unleashes a devastating storm centered on himself, the effects of which only grow stronger over time.
      • Rain and sleet fill the sky.
      • A furious wind blinds enemies, reducing their accuracy.
      • The ground grows slushy, slowing down enemies.
      • A howling cyclone breaks enemy morale.
      • A tornado strikes an enemy.
      • Lightning strikes all enemies.
    • The Canis Helix gives the Space Wolves a great deal of lupine characteristics, most famously their wolflike manes and yellow eyes. They possess elongated canines that can bend the hardest of alloys, incredible reflexes, and inhuman senses of smell.
    • The superhuman physiology of the Astartes extends far beyond mere size and strength:
      • Greatly enhanced reflexes and strength.
      • Bulletproof torso (against small-caliber weapons).
      • Secondary heart.
      • External wounds seal off and scar quickly.
      • Only needs 4 hours of sleep a day and can go up to two weeks without sleep.
      • Extra lungs to allow breathing in toxic environments or even water for longer.
      • Natural protection from high UV levels and most radiation.
      • Immunity to most ingested poisons.
      • Low-light vision amost equal to daylight.
      • Ability to observe the memories and reflexes of a creature by eating it.
      • Immunity to dizziness and otion sickness, and can filter and enhance sounds.
      • Can identify chemicals and track down a target by taste.
      • Can enter a catatonic state if near death to await possible rescue.
      • Can spit a poison at contact range, which is corrosive enough to dissolve metal in time.
    • Space Wolves are almost entirely immune to the effects of alcohol, to the point where their drinking contests (with mead containing a healthy proportion of jet fuel) are won by being the first to pass out.
    • Equipment:
      • Runic Terminator Armor: Njal' suit of nigh-indestructible suit of Terminator Armor is further protected by the protective wards he alone has the skill to place. It contains a personal teleporter system that carries the wearer across vast distances in a great thunderclap.
      • Runic Staff: Carved into Njal's staff are runes of great power. Spells and magic cast against him fail far more often than not, he can prevent the use of enemy magic in the area, or even prevent casters from using their magic at all. It is empowered to destroy daemons, and so is particularly effective against them.
      • Bolt Pistol: This weapon fires self-propelled grenades which first penetrate then burst inside the target, making it equally murderous against flesh and armor.
      • Nightwing: Njal's psyber-raven is able to spy on the battlefield and relay information to Njal, allowing him to strike the enemy even if they are hiding. Nightwing also attacks enemies that get close to Njal, pecking and scratching at their eyes.
  • Why have they been picked to climb the Tower?: Long ago, Leman Russ, the Primarch of the Rout, disappeared into the Warp, claiming he would return at the Wolftime, the final battle. Njal believes he has suffered a similar fate, and hopes to return to his own dimension before this happens.

  • Name: Danny Fenton/Danny Phantom
  • Age: 16
  • Appearance: Fenton on the left, Phantom on the right.
  • Universe: Danny Phantom (Between D-stabilized and PP)
  • Personality: Danny is a kind, easy-going teen, with a real heroic side. While at first he was reluctant to be a hero and only wanted to be normal, he's long since embraced his ghost-side, and all the heroic responsibilities that come with it (though he may occasionally use his ghost-powers for pranks). He won't hesitate to jump into action if there's trouble, and never backs away from a fight, even actively taunting and heckling his opponents. He can be a bit cynical and jaded at times, but he has a good heart, and always strives to do the right thing, even if everyone's against him.
  • Backstory: Danny grew up with two absolutely ghost obsessed scientists for parents. His parents greatest creation was to be the Fenton Ghost Portal, a device capable of punching a hole into the mysterious Ghost Zone, the world of Ghosts. However, when the Ghost Portal didn't work, Danny's parents gave up on it. Danny, letting his curiosity get the best of him, wandered into the Ghost Portal, and accidentally managed to activate it. This resulted in an accident that infused Danny's DNA with ectoplasm and turned him into a half-human half-ghost hybrid with ghostly powers, or a 'Halfa'. While initially confused and uncertain of these powers, Danny discovered he could put them to good use by combating the ghosts who were now free to exit the Ghost Zone. He's since taken up the position of his hometown Amity Park's duly deputized peace keeper, and has saved the town and the Ghost Zone time and time again.
  • Powers/Abilities/Equipment:
    • Ghost Powers: Danny has the ability to, as he puts it 'Go Ghost', which turns him into a ghost. While in his ghost form, he has access to all of his ghostly abilities. He can use some of his ghost powers while in his human form, but they're not as strong. His ghostly powers, aside from enhanced strength, stamina, and reflexes, are:
      • Intangibility-Danny can turn intangible for a few quick moments in order to pass through walls, floors, and other solid objects. (For the purpose of this RP, Danny won't be using this power to dodge hits.)
      • Invisibility-Danny can turn completely invisible. In game, Danny will only be able to turn invisible if he's not using any of his other powers, and won't be able to attack for a few moments after exiting invisibility (so he won't be using invisibility in battle, unless he's using it to run away from said battle).
      • Flight-Danny, as a ghost, is capable of flight, and can fly at incredibly high speeds. For the RP, his max flying speed will be 75 mph.
      • Body Manipulation-Danny can stretch, bend, twist, and move his ghost body in ways that regular humans can't.
      • Ecto-Powers-These powers are fueled by the very ecto-energy that ghosts are made of.
      • -Ghost Ray-Danny can fire off blasts of ecto-energy, that range in power from being able to knock a person back, to being able to destroy items as strong as steel with a charge attack. It comes in all sorts of forms (beams, blasts, projectiles, fields, etc) that will often explode on impact.
      • -Enhanced Strength-Danny's ecto-energy can also be used to enhance his own strength, allowing for stronger punches and kicks.
      • -Ghost Shield-Danny can use his ecto-energy to form a shield around himself (and others).
      • -Ghost Stinger-Danny can release a strong burst of ecto-energy in the form of an electrical shock. It can even be used to nullify other opponents electrical attacks and send it right back at them.
      • -Ghostly Wail-by far one of Danny's most powerful abilities, Danny is capable of emitting an ecto-charged sonic blast that can cause massive damage to solid objections and send enemies flying backwards reeling. It pretty much drains Danny of all energy once he uses it and reverts him to human form, so it's really more of a last ditch move.
      • Overshadowing- Danny has the ability to possess people and objects, though he won't be possessing any other player character, and those with strong enough wills will be able to fight himoff. He can also use this power to exorcise other ghosts from those they're possessing.
      • Duplication-Danny is capable of creating clones of himself who he can control and who have all the same powers as he does. He can make up to 3 clones at a time, and if they take too much damage, they dissipate.
      • Cryokinesis-With this power, Danny can do things like fire off pure icy energy from his hands and body that can freeze things solid and create solid ice objects. He can also combine this power with his ecto-powers for upgraded abilities. It takes a few seconds for him to charge these attacks up, and those hit with an ice blast will begin freezing over at a mid to slow pace (enough time for people to react).
      • -Ghost Sense-Danny is capable of sensing if there are any other ghosts in the area. Whenever a ghost is near, a cold mist escapes from Danny's mouth.
    • Fenton Thermos: This Thermos shaped device is great for storing ghosts, but not so great for storing soup or hot beverages.
  • Why have they been picked to climb the Tower?: Danny is a hero through-and-through, willing to fight evil whenever it rears it's ugly head with his arsenal of ghostly abilities. Plus you can never have enough puns.

I'll just put this here until the day that signups reopen.

Name: Yang Xiao Long
Age: 18, maybe 19
Appearance: General image, better shot of her outfit, and on her Bumblebee.
Universe: RWBY
Personality: Very direct and expressive, she thinks the easiest way to tackle an obstacle is through it. Strong passion fuels her fiery temper which sometimes causes her to act recklessly and without caution. Has a bit of a tender side from helping to raise her baby sister, though sometimes to an observer it can seem more like tough love. Loves cracking jokes and making puns, even in the heat of a battle. Is completely obsessed with her hair, and is liable to go ballistic on someone who messes with it. Might definitely have a thing for catgirls.
Backstory: Yang's mom went away when she was young, and her step-mom died a few years later, leaving her as the only real female role model for her little sister, Ruby. When she turned seventeen, she went to a special college that taught her how to kill monsters, until a man in a mask cut off her arm when she was trying to save a catgirl. She went home and sulked in her room for a few months without telling her dad how she felt until one day, she did. Then she got a new robot arm, packed up her things, and set out on her trusty motorcycle.
Powers/Abilities/Equipment:
  • Aura: Kind of like an energy shield meets soul power, her Aura makes her stronger and faster than other people, and can absorb a good deal of attacks, bullets, and other things that would normally injure someone, and for the most part prevents Yang from being damaged until its depletion. When it recharges, it greatly accelerates how fast the body recovers, but only to the extent of what a person could heal or recover from given enough time and rest. It gets projected into equipment to reinforce it with this same shielding property, such as to let clothing survive, or to prevent weapons from breaking.
  • Super Strength: Yang is absurdly strong, and even without Aura her punches pack enough force to send a man (or bear) flying off.
  • Brawling: In a school of weaponmasters, Yang's the one who decides to punch everything. She's got all sorts of style and technique when it comes to controlling her movements in order to punch, kick, headbutt, elbow-drop, knee-bash, or otherwise beat the shit out of foe, which is greatly improved by her aura enhancing her reaction times and agility. She relies a lot more on brute force and strength than she does on any sort of finesse or grace.
  • Semblance: A sort of superpower fueled by her Aura, and best described as a "temper tantrum". Yang becomes increasingly powerful as she takes more damage and her aura gets drained, continuously getting stronger and hitting harder the closer she gets to death. She can "pulse" it to generate a fiery shockwave around her, which again varies in power the more drained she is. And of course, her eyes turn red and her hair looks like it's on fire.
  • Ember Celica: Normally just a stylish bracelet, it expands into (half) a set of Dual Ranged Shot Gauntlets, extremely durable arm guards. The metal above her middle finger has a pointy tip at the end, so she can concentrate the force of her punches into a high-pressure strike with it. It has an embedded shotgun-like functionality, enabling it to shoot out blasts of raw kinetic energy from a barrel located just above the index finger, with its effects on-par with an oversized shotgun slug. The recoil on it is incredible, and Yang often shoots away from a target in order to increase the velocity of her elbow-strikes and other attacks, or to propel herself in mid-air from the sheer impulse it provides.
    • She can also load "red" shells into it that fire an actual projectile, rather than energy, which detonate on impact in a large explosion akin to a fiery concussive blast.
  • Arm: Yang's right arm was replaced with an advanced metal prosthetic, which is sturdier and a bit stronger than her flesh-and-bone arm, and has a gun that pops out from the forearm that functions identically to the Ember Celica on her left arm.
  • Bumblebee: A motorcycle. It looks pretty cool.
  • Scroll: It's like a smartphone, but with an astoundingly good battery and very durable.
Why have they been picked to climb the Tower?: Probably to keep her uncle out of trouble.

I mean it this time.

  • Name: Medusa Gorgon
  • Age: Uknown, implied to be well over 800
  • Appearance: Never trust a snake
  • Universe: Soul Eater
  • Personality:Medusa is a cold, calculating woman. She hates having anything get in the way of her goals and has no problem destroying anyone that gets in her way. She is motivated by a hatred for stagnation. She believes her world is standing still, and is willing to cause chaos and madness to bring forth motion in her world. She enjoys seeing the suffering of those that get in her way, and has no issue hurting anyone at all, including her own child. Medusa is not above lying, cheating, and blackmail to get exactly what she wants. Despite that though, you won't know how sinister she is unless she lets you. Medusa is a fantastic actor, and has easily manipulated many people in the past. She has even been able to hide under the nose of a school of witch hunters for quite some time without any issues. There is a sense of something possibly warm inside of her though. She is capable of feeling of love and affection, but her expressions of these feelings are twisted and dark.
  • Backstory: There is not a lot known about the early life of Medusa. She is the middle child in a trio of witch sisters, and holds no love for either of them. Even among other witches, Medusa is considered an outlier and standoffish. Due to the looming threat of Death himself, witches had to stay hidden or risk dying and having their souls consumed. Medusa was probably the most brazen of them, choosing to sneak into Death's academy and work under him as the school's nurse. She carried out two tasks develop and research a special substance she created known as the Black Blood, and find a god of madness that Death sealed beneath the school. At some point she had a child named Crona, and used them as the guinea pig for her Black Blood experiments. She tried turning Crona into a new monstrous god, but quickly grew tired of the child's many difficulties.
  • At some point during her stay at the DWMA, Medusa found herself pulled from her world to become a general in the service of an evil interdimensional god. While she was pretty suspicious of this plot, she played along with his plans, trying to see where things would go. Eventually she found others that were dissatisfied with their situation and sought to find their own way out of things. Luckily it was at around this time that other god-like beings got involved and their evil god was killed, allowing all of them their freedom again.
  • Now free to go whatever she wanted, Medusa returned to her world to complete her work. With her newly gained power and resources from her time as a general, her goal of restoring the Kishin to his former strength was much easier to obtain. She abandoned even attempting to use Crona as a Kishin and instead worked to break the DWMA apart from the inside. Professor Stein was the first to catch on to her and try to stop her alongside one of Death's personal Weapons. Medusa's new powers gave her the upper hand against them, allowing her to kill two of the strongest staff working for Death. With the Kishin revived, Medusa slipped back into hiding to watch the natural course of the world as Death's iron grip of the status quo was broken.
  • Powers/Abilities/Equipment:
    • Genius Intellect: Medusa is an incredibly intelligent woman, skilled in both the fields of science and magic. She knows how to weave spells with the best of them, and could even be one of the most powerful witches in her world. Combined with her scientific knowledge and curiosity, she is capable of combining the two in terrifying ways. She can analyze spells and machines with a glance and has a thirst to always learn more.
    • Hand-to-hand: Despite what one might think of a witch, Medusa does not shy away from physical confrontations. She is quick, agile, and flexible. She can hold her own against master weapon users and Deathscythes. She combines her fighting skills with her magic to great results.
    • Snake Familiars: Inside of her body, Medusa stores thousands of snake familiars to use with her magic. They take the form of almost 2D arrows and are strong enough to pierce stone. The tail on the back of her outfit is also a snake, one that she manipulates to help with balancing or fighting. She keeps her two favorite familiars as tattoos spiraling up her arms, able to be summoned at a moment's notice.
    • Vector Magic: Most of Medusa's magic takes the form of arrows. From a storm of piercing arrows and a spinning arrow shield, Medusa's spells all share a common design. Her more notable spells include Vector Plate, which places an arrow on the ground that propels whoever in standing above it in the direction it points. Along with her vector magic comes some widely know witch spells that help with things like calculations and analysis. The most useful spell to a witch is Soul Protect, which prevents anyone from seeing her soul (and possibly avoids magic detection?)
  • Why have they been picked to climb the Tower?: A keen mind along side natural magical talent can go a long ways to helping the team get through a variety of different worlds. Plus, Dio needs a pal to get through this mess.

ATTENTION! Sign-ups are now reopened! We're looking at...possibly about 10-15 open spots (I'm thinking 40 characters is a reasonable cap), so get your sheets up! grin

@biomechtraveler: The Doctor looks alright, but I'm afraid he can not bring the TARDIS with him. Also, like I told Fusionman back in the day, I'm gonna to have to ask for some hard limitations on what the Sonic Screwdriver can do because of its potential for, well, anything.

Finally, when it comes to taking over The Doctor that was played by Fusionman, he's currently still listed as an active character, so taking over control of the character will require Fusionman's permission. If the character becomes inactive, however, you can take it over.

@Dezmo: Heya, just a few things that need clearing up. smile First of all, we're being really careful with intangibility powers because of its high potential for abuse. So, he's only gonna be able to turn intangible for max one or two seconds. Second, invisibility is something similar. Previously we've accepted invisibility only if it can't be activated in the middle of battle, and that attacking or doing any kind of advanced action will make them turn visible again. Third, his Overshadowing is gonna have to accept some limitations. No possessing Player Characters without the player's permission, the possession can be resisted by means such as magical/psychic resistance and no entering people's dreams.

As for his ghost powers, there's some vagueness that I'd like to know more about, just so we know what we're working with. smile What kind of strength are we talking about with his Ghost Ray? How fast can he fly? How strong is the Ghostly Wail? How fast does the Cryokinesis work?

@nman: Yang looks alright, just one thing. What is her absolute theoretical maximum strength when you combine all her strength boosters (high natural strength + Aura + Semblance at max + high pressure ability of her Ember Celica)?

@Oni-Lord: Medusa also looks good, I just want to know a couple of details. How does she use her magic? Can she place her arrows at range, or must they be placed by hand/familiar? And will she be using other magic than the Vector magic?

EDIT: @Chabal: Is that a real or a joke sign-up? Someone pointed out to me the date of your post.

  • Name: Alphys
  • Age: Unknown, but seems to be a young adult
  • Appearance: "Do you... like... anime?"
  • Universe: Undertale
  • Personality: Alphys is friendly and nice towards most people, but also very awkward, having a lot of difficulty to talk to people, however, she loves anime and is quite eager to nerd out at you if you give her the opportunity, even if it means spoiling most of the show to you. She's very passionate about science and can work pretty quickly, being capable of even upgrading an old phone into something capable of using the internet, text and even turn into a jetpack and disarm bombs in a matter of a few seconds. She's also very insecure, often doubting her own abilities and feeling guilt due to her past actions, plus being generally easy to rattle. Despite being a coward, Alphys is quick to act when she has no other option and is very resourceful while also knowing her limits when it comes to dealing with danger.
  • Backstory: Alphys was the Royal Scientist of the Underground, being given the title by Asgore after creating Mettaton and showing him to the good king. One of her tasks was to study the nature of human souls and in the process she isolated a power she called "determination" which allowed human souls to last after death. She experimented injecting the power into the bodies of dying monster to help their souls live past death, but the experiment failed and all the subjects melted together into being called the Amalgamates. Feeling guilt over what happened, she refused to tell anyone and became afraid of doing any more work. However, thanks to the help of a fallen human, she overcame her fears and decided to tell everyone the truth, even though it meant losing her job in the process.
  • Powers/Abilities/Equipment:
    • Lightning Magic: Alphys is capable of using very weak lightning magic, not reliable at all for combat and at most she can use it to briefly stun an enemy at a short distance or she can use it to power some of her machines.
    • Mini-MTTs: Alphys can summon small retangular drones with arms. She can have a maximum of 8 of them out at once and they are easily destroyed even by weak attacks while not being too strong themselves, being capable of shooting heart shaped bullets at enemies that do a decent amount of damage but are easily dodged. However, they can come in large numbers and some might carry bombs with them that when detonated explode in a cross shape. The explosion has a long range, but is still not all that powerful. When they are destroyed, it will take some time before she can make new ones. Alphys uses these as assistants.
    • Genius Scientist: Alphys can easily build all types of machines and equipment provides she has the materials to do so.
    • Alphys carry a cellphone with her that has a item storage capability, it can hold a maximum of 18 items in it. However the object can't be too big (nothing bigger or larger than her) so it's mostly used as a convenient way to carry tools around. From the start there is a toolbox, some manga and instant noodles inside.
  • Why have they been picked to climb the Tower?: Despite her insecurities, Alphys is still very smart and capable and could provide valuable assistance with her ability to quickly create all kinds of devices.

It can be whatever you want it to be, baby.

But yeah assuming best-case combination of all factors, her limit would be capped by whatever PCs are restricted to. I think that's like approximately fifteen tons.

Theres a few common witch magic that Medusa has been shown to use aside from the Vector magic shes known for. There magic calculation, which basically briefly turns the witch into a computer for figuring out mathematical calculations such as launch projections. She can take a broom and fly on it like a stereotypical witch. Outside of her Vector magic, all the general magic she can do is purely utility and nothing combat related.

She can place her Vector Plates at a distance, but she never seems to be able to place them very far from herself. Probably at most several feet, and I'd say line of sight is necessary too.
