So what do you think are the odds of this film being successful enough in the box office to build a franchise?
Well it's Pokemon and looks pretty good, so I'd say pretty good. It's also been advertised fairly well.
> So what do you think are the odds of this film being successful enough in the box office to build a franchise?
I'm not a gambling man but I feel like it won't lead to a franchise, think of it as a one time event
New theme music also a boxThey stated that they wanted to a Shared Universe out of it, including spin-offs and a Pokemon Red & Blue movie.
I feel like it'll gross about a $1B at the box office. I feel like there won't be too much competition between this and Endgame like Incredibles 2 and Jurassic World 2.
1 billion is too unlikely,I think this movie is going to get slaughtered at the box office
New theme music also a boxAny actual reason you would think that?
I think international market is doing to do wonders for it, regardless of the domestic numbers. China especially has been big into Pokemon Go as of late, which could translate to a healthy box office when its released there. Its also two weeks after Endgame and two weeks before Aladdin, so even with the legs the former will have, it has a fairly low competition in its release window.

I'm going to go see it, regardless of what people say.
I wanna see Live Action pokemon.
I'm going to see it too. It'll be fantastically amazing.
I smell magic in the air. Or maybe barbecue.Don't think it has enough appeal to enough people to hit the billion mark but I can see it coming near. Depends on the reviews I think.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."The hype has definitely been constant, so I'm sure it will do fine. I do, however, wonder what the actual budget will be.
Budget will be crazy due to all the CGI pokemon,so the number will be double digit millions
New theme music also a boxThe reason why I don't think it'll get slaughtered is because it had a similar amount of hype as Captain Marvel (Which has done over $1B).
Endgame will be hard to deal with, but apparently the pre-sales domestically are about 75% of Incredibles 2.
Betting against Pokemon is never a good idea, especially since this has so much hype from so many different demographics.
The ultra realistic pokemon might actually put some people off come to think of it,maybe, other people might dislike how Pikachu is suddenly voiced
A film like that is a huge gamble is all I'm saying
New theme music also a boxWill be an interesting matchup to be sure. I was so surprised by how thoroughly Infinity War clobbered Solo last year.
>Doesn't have enough appeal to people
>Pokemon has one of the biggest fanbases in the world
What?
But yeah, there's a lot of stuff they might do with Pokemon eventually if they go for a shared universe style, as long as they don't let it get out of hand.
Pokemon is literally the most profitable work of fiction in history, at least according to Wikipedia.
I thought it was one of, not the.
I smell magic in the air. Or maybe barbecue. The second is Star Wars.
Where there's life, there's hope. Here's the wikipedia article in question. The top 5:

I think I should know Anpanman if it scores so high.
And if Shonen Jump is a franchise then Nintendo should be counted as a franchise too.
Where there's life, there's hope.What, no Zelda?
@Reyn Time: Not that I know of, but early showings have had some good buzz according to insiders.
