Ni-Oh

Well, here's a quality of life change that Team Ninja did and told no one. So late late game is all about Warcraft 3 Reforging (sorry, joke was there) and trying to get super good rolls on equipment, except accessories. In Nioh 2 you can now reroll the bonuses on accessories, you just have to look at the "all armors" tab since accessory doesn't have a tab of its own. This is definitely going to reduces late game accessory grind to find the perfect accessory.

You can indeed give females more muscle. Especially if you max out the weight and muscle definition, you can make a Statuesque Stunner.

Wicked.

I'm gonna wait for the full game to come out before I dive back in though. I'm super excited, but I don't want to lose all my progress all over again.

Also I'm still reeling from that fucking snake.

Thoughts on that boss under spoiler cut.

That boss is the literal definition of happy medium. Get too close, get punished, stay to far, get sniped. You have to be in the happy middle and juggle getting hits and getting out so you don't get punished.

Either way, I'm happy to have fought him and I'm already planning my late game build, well one of them at least. If that one accessory that decreases needed armor sets by 1 is still in the game then yeah I have plans.

Very much looking forward to Ni-oh 2. The humans bosses look much more fun to fight so far and I love the new weapons.

Loving the demo. Hating the Marathon Boss in the Twilight level.

Just beat ol' horsehead. I think it had a bit to do with me looting a near full set of light armor that provided a health bonus upon purifications. Still, I got to a point where I lined up the counters and anima attacks and a nice finisher so well that I erased half the boss's health in a matter of seconds.

These yokai souls are neat too. I once heard someone describe these soulslike games as proper 3D Castlevania titles (platforming aside). If that's the case, then Ni-Oh 2 is giving me some heavy Aria/Dawn of sorrow vibes with every monster having a special ability you can use. I mean, they're even called souls there, too.

Review embargo is up: 86 meta score so far out of 45 reviews, around the same as the original.

I imagine It's the Same, So It Sucks will be a trend we'll see from the more negative reviews.

William is a Boss. And its amazing. And it reveals the game was both a Prequel and a sequel all along. And thus, you get Saoirse as a spirit.

Man the beginning of the game doesn't throw its punches. An optional mid boss as your second enemy of the game. Yowzas. I killed hit of course but dang, I got Dark Souls 2 vibes from that, you know the big trolls.

Got the special edition. Made muscle waifu. Beat the first level. Surprisingly I haven't died yet, and now that I've built that up I'm sure my first defeat will be against some random peasant bandit that stabs me in the back.

Damn is this game good.

The new Demon mechanics definitely give it an edge.

Otherwise, its very much The Same But More, but that isn't a bad thing.

The story is actually really good, especially the relationship between your player character and Tokichiro Kinoshita/ Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

Okay so I just found a cheap trick. So you know those skills that give an instant grapple if you land the move and the ki gauge empties at the same time? There is an active skill in the game that increases Ki damage when you use a special. Here's an example, Odachi plus charging bull plus Masterful Slice equals I get a grapple on most mooks 8 times out 10. Nice.

So uh where's the Nioh 2 Tropes page?

tl;dw it's not recommended to use anything but the framerate/performance mode, since the image quality on the movie modes doesn't look that great anyway and harms the responsiveness of the gameplay which is important for a game like this.

Now that I finally have a decent PC I'm looking forward to playing the original Nioh at last when I get my next paycheck.

I'm quite enjoying it so far, though the yokai shift/burst counter mechanic is definitely going to take some getting used to, especially with the Feral shift. Since it requires you to basically be hit by the attack you're trying to counter, with some larger bosses it's very easy to miss the "counter" hitbox and just jump into their hurtboxes. Others, like the Enki, have several burst counter abilities that can be too unpredictable or fast to counter easily.

I'm really interested in what the story is going to shape up like here. Having just finished Mino, the idea that the player character is Saito Dosan's child and therefore a half-sibling to Nobunaga's wife Nohime, not to mention apparently the originator of the Hide character that later became a big part of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's name? It's pretty bold.

Yeah, the story for this game is easily a massive improvement over the original. The relationship between the protag and Tokichiro is really great.

I finally killed that yatsu no kami after a few grueling tries. Payback for all the grief it gave me in the beta.

The shrine maiden outfit looks out of place on my warrioress... Can dudes wear it?

Just got the game today. However I might still play Nioh 1 a bit more first since I unlocked fuku's transformation for the first time. I'm pleased the transformations actually changes the voices/lines too. Fuku doing the onmyo chant when using LW is cool.

Speaking of, that same chant was said by Hayabusa in one of the dead or alive games for his victory lines. What does it originate from?
