I never said it doesn't make money. I said it was a modest success that would probably lose money if it's released at any other time last year or this year.

It looks like Mary Poppins Forever is inevitable.
It is doubtful that Disney would spend another hundred million on sequel for a movie that have Mary Poppins Return performance.
According to Box Office Mojo, this has been the worst President's Day Weekend in 15 years. Alita: Battle Angel performed slightly better than expected, but still only pulled in $36.5 million domestically on a $170 million budget (internationally, it made $130 million). Meanwhile, Happy Deathday 2 U only managed to make to the fifth spot at the box office, but still managed to make more than twice its production budget on its opening weekend.

The LEGO Movie 2 is also trailing its predecessor.
Peace is the only battle worth waging. It is unlikely that they will do as well as last year, when Black Panther pushed the first quarter box office to new heights. It will be interesting to see what happens once Captain Marvel is released. I guess it qualifies as the first "blockbuster" of the year.
SHAZAM! (2019) might have been well-recieved by critics, but unfortunately, I predict that movie to be an Acclaimed Flop, at least domestically.
Why?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Is it because it is following Captain Marvel?
Where there's life, there's hope.Wow, Dumbo is flopping hard.
Shazam! is performing worse than Ant-Man at the same point in its release cycle. If this holds up, it’ll make even less than Justice League.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Well, it also cost way less than Justice League.
Shazam only cost $90 million and has pretty strong word of mouth. It should be fine.
That's legitimately shocking. I've heard nothing but good things about it.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.I don't think that it is all that shocking. The movie looks a little bit like a kiddy flick, and if I were a regular movie goer, it wouldn't necessarily be my first pick.
It made the same mistake with JL and BVS: releasing before the Marvel movie stop airing.
Where there's life, there's hope. They should have released Shazam at the end of January/start of February: First out of the gate and a less crowded market. Or moved it to fall, away from the big Marvel releases.

Not to mention Marvel has a probable record-breaker around the corner. Shazam! will probably be fine, but I found it shocking that it was doing worse than Ant-Man of all films.
Wouldn’t it cannibalize Aquaman if it was released that early?

Peace is the only battle worth waging.Well, I wasn't surprised that it made Ant-man numbers, because it feels (based on the marketing) like a similar movie, but I expected it to make slightly more, not slightly less.
I'm not sure If Shazam would only make "slightly less" than Ant Man. It performance in other countries like China and South Korea have been a lot worse than Ant Man with it may not even be cracking 100 million in China (Ant Man made 105 million in China) .
We’re talking domestic numbers.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Even then, Shazam has to face Endgame. Ant-man had to face Fant4stic.
Shazam still has 2 weeks before that happens though.
It should make well enough.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
It really differs from market to market. If you want to be conservative, you can average one third of the foreign Box office. But even if you do that, we would be at 83 million plus 51 million, makes 134 million of a movie with a 130 million budget which is still in theatres and still features in the top ten.
Mary Poppins makes money for Disney. Period.
