The city

XLR8 dashed around the city, taking a mental note of every person he saw. As he looked around, he saw the Caucasian boy in the red jacket and helmet talking to... a guy with a turban! Two birds with one stone! Not only did he find the one leading the militia, he also found the person in the turban from the other day!

XLR8 dashed over to the two boys, stopping nearby them. "Hey, I was told that you were putting together a militia of some kind?" he asked the boy in the helmet. He then put his hand to his forehead in a sort of half-salute. "Well, if that's the case, Ben Tennyson reporting for duty!" His eyes turned towards the boy in the turban. "Hey, uh, did you give a vial of rainbow stuff to a blonde girl about yay high?" Ben asked he turbaned character, gesturing to about Mary's height. "What is that stuff anyway and where'd you get it?"

Library, 1st floor

Lune was about to answer Ranma until Ms. Tairee answered for her; it was part of Ms. Tairee's job description: help out the confused purveyors until they get what they're looking for. She mentioned that the library had many kinds of martial arts books. There was even a cat-themed martial arts style. That's pretty outlandish, even for the girl who saw idol-themed robots dance their way to victory in combat. She even asked Ranma what book she would like to find.

Seeing as Koishi was Lune's friend, she decided to help out with her white lie. After all, she helped Lune pull out the sword that made the dragon vulnerable to damage. "Y-yeah! That is, um, our secret greeting, right?" After saying that, she gave a friendly wink at Koishi. Hopefully that will make the lie work better. She noticed a dinosaur robot attempt to protect Koishi in case things went south.

Ben had a chat with Ms. Tairee on the factions that were forming in the big city. One group was trying to instill order; one group tried to protect themselves against the humans and held that earlier rally; and one group wanted to cause anarchy in the city to amuse themselves. He thanked her before changing into XLR8 and leaving in a flash. That Ben, always looking before leaping into action.

That tortilla chip creature showed up and talked with Miss Tairee on why he was brought here. She gave the usual reason for him being here: to provide inspiration for her mysterious boss. She even gave him a pamphlet on the city itself and sarcastically asked if he wanted a pizza, which was a jab at how Rex asked her to use her powers to make pizza. She decided to wait until he's done with Ms. Tairee before making a request.

Gon began to use the fire escape of the nearest building to scale to the roof.

"Let's do this."

The assassin decided to jump from one roof to the others when he kept running and jumping whenever he saw a gap.

It was only a good thing that he kept his gear light in order to do the feat. Any more gear carried on his body and he'd fall down.

"HAH!"

Gon shouted when he made the first leap from the first building roof he's on to the next one.

He looked around for anything familiar. From a slight distance, he thought that he saw some people gathering.

Playground, with Cole and Sawyer

Garrett glared at Cole. "You sound almost like the Keepers from my world. It's not my obligation to play the part of the hero when I've got my own skin to worry about, and nobody around to care about it in my place." He crossed his arms. "Anyway, take it or leave it, but if we want to get out of here on our own terms, we'll have to cooperate instead of getting preachy at each other. Now I don't know about you two, but I see no reason to trust our gracious host will let us go with no strings attached once his playtime is up. What exactly does he want from us, anyway? All I've heard is "inspiration", which marks him as the crazy artist type if you ask me—not someone I'd trust implicitly."

Somewhere in the streets, with Ben

Both boys were surprised by XLR8's sudden arrival, the boy in the red coat taking a step back as he looked XLR8 up and down. "Well, that makes one volunteer" the boy muttered to himself, raising an eyebrow as XLR8 immediately went to talking to the other boy.

"A blonde girl? No, but I did give three to a man in a white suit in exchange for some unique flowers; flowers which suddenly disappeared during that snowstorm a few days ago. I'm still rather annoyed about that" the Indian boy responded to XLR8. "That was specialty dye and I made it myself" he added, folding his arms, "why? What does it matter to you?"

In the city with the militia

XLR8 winced back a bit at the man with the turban's rather standoffish response. "Whoa, I wasn't trying to start anything," he told the boy. "I just thought that dye was really cool. And I wanted some. But I thought it was kinda weird and I wanted to know what it was made out of is all. No big, seriously," he tried to explain. "The blonde girl is my friend. I guess she must have got it from the guy you gave it to or something." XLR8 shrugged. "I dunno, maybe when I got back to my world or something I could give some to my cousin."

He then turned back towards the boy in the helmet. "I'm a hero from my world. Using an alien watch I can turn into these alien heroes and fight evil!" he explained.

"No one cared about me either, but I still chose to help, and people came to care for me after! Now I'm not alone at home, and I'm not alone here...and you wouldn't have to be either! But all you care about is saving yourself without a thought that improving the lives of others could improve your own...or that helping someone else could be an improvement itself!" Cole looked to Sawyer. "If you choose to work with him, that is up to you. I will help if you need me." Then back to Garrett. "...if you truly wish to save people I will help you as well. But I don't believe that is what you want. You want to use us, use my powers for yourself, and you frame it in words as though you do me a favor. But if you could escape and leave us all behind, you would. I want nothing to do with anyone like you."

That being said, Cole turned to stalk back towards the street, clearly visibly agitated, just walking away in whatever direction he was facing without a destination in mind.

"Just as long as you don't attack any innocent civilians, I won't come after you," he said to the Krogan boy as he peacefully walked away. He turned to see Rex trying console Marcus. From what he picked up from the conversation, the Space Marine was crying over the fact that some group was doing a nonviolent demonstration using a crossed out version of his symbol. Apparently, the symbol was taken as a signal of hope and held great importance to his society.

"Quite honestly Marcus, that is the most we can ask of you," Plague Knight said Marcus walking up to him. "I can tell you are a man of honor and valor, just brought into a place and situation where your brand of zealous devotion is bit too much. Even if our viewpoints do not match, we would be grateful to have you as an ally rather than an enemy."

Inside the Library

"Kid seems to have a pretty short attention span, eh," Ranma quipped to both Lune and Miss Tairee as the boy turned teen turned into some kinda blue lizard to speed off into the distance, that little bit of snarkery returning her excitement back down into manageable levels. Pausing to think of what to then go for, Ranma decided to try her luck by shoving the power to pick onto the librarian who A) knew the place inside out and B) didn't have her horrible chaotic tendencies to pick up really weird stuff.

"Eh, surprise me with something interesting and practical. Someone like you must be pretty awesome to manage a place like this atop of dealin' with everyone who comes byso I'll trust yer judgement ." There was that Saotome honesty at work, most of the time causing trouble but every so often that rare compliment came out. "Also if you have anything ya want done within reason, I'll try ta help out. Least I can do for bothering you." The pigtailed woman said with a wink and a thumbs up pointing to herself roguishly, doing her best in her own way to try to cheer up the gloomy librarian.

Frankly speaking, Sawyer preferred to stay around with someone she knew, more or less.

Really, seeing Cole looking so bothered was a new one, just like his recent smile was fairly new too. "I think I'll keep tagging along." She shrugged, looking at Garett briefly then turning on her heel and walking back with the hat-wearing Spirit of Compassion.

"How come you're not giving me flak and yet you give it to him?" She mused, curious. Of course, she waited until they were far enough from the thief to not hear them talk. "I think I'm the worse one out of me and him."

"You did not seek me out for what I could do. You sought companionship and cared to learn more of me beyond what my powers would grant you. The actions you perform and the way you feel about other people and their pain is foul, frightful, fearsome...but you help in your work, gruesome as it is...and you do not only want what I can do to...to serve you."

There was a short pause before the vitriol in his voice eased a bit. "Besides, I did threaten you when we met. I warned that if you tried to harm others, that I would stop you. You have done nothing to earn that. And..."

His walking slowed a bit, and he looked a little chagrined as he abruptly stopped. "I should not have responded so angrily. This place is strange and frightening to us all. Just because I do not like someone does not mean they do not deserve help. That man is new here, and...perhaps he would have understood if I were kinder. If I explained that I...oh, I'm sorry, I got angry and I shouldn't have! I did not want to be thought of as just what I could do but as who I am and I treated him so poorly...what if that is not what he meant at all? Did I get it wrong?"

"You have every right to be angry with someone or dislike them." She shrugged, rolling her shoulders again. "The guy seemed like a thief and these rarely want anything selfless."

"And I guess I did not seek you out for your powers. I mean, I do not think they could help me with anything." Another shrug. "And all in all it's pleasant to talk to someone every now and then. If that makes sense."

Oops

Sans caught her before she could yelp a warning. She could immediately feel her powers take effect, and while she couldn't tell what Sans was thinking - wow, did he have problems. He didn't just miss his old hometown or lose a precious trinket; whatever he had gone through was far more than anything back in San Francisco. It was over in an instant, and Sadness found herself standing over the terrified and now-quite-harmless-looking skeleton, their positions swapped from a moment ago.

Disgust wasn't her area of expertise, but she immediately felt like everyone was horrified by her. "I'm sorry," she began immediately, wringing her hands together, as if to prevent herself from helping Sans to his feet. "I - I'm Sadness, I mean, it's a power I have - I mean - I make people sad - I am sad! That's, that's not a bad thing, I - "

She took a deep breath breath, using Ringabel's cheerful and totally inappropriate arrival to calm herself down, though she was more aware of Sans' panic than she was of her own. He had a darkness in him. She couldn't help if she couldn't talk.

Tentatively, leaving plenty of space between herself and Sans, Sadness sat down across from him. "I'm the embodiment of Sadness," she said, almost gently, perhaps channeling a little bit of Cole from when they had had their conversation. "I heal people's hurts, but it's not a very fun process. Do you...want to talk about it?" Sadness looked him in the eyes with a small amount of difficulty, her concerned, kicked-puppy stare magnified by her glasses.

Outside of the Library - with a name like that i really shouldn't be surprised this happened...

Sans was still looking quite frightened, however he was beginning to calm down. Caro soon sat down next to him to provide him with some comfort, he barely registered that she was there, but he appreciated the gesture if nothing else. Touching Sadness apparently made so that all the hidden sorrow come out at full force and he was severely caught offguard by it. He would have to keep a mental note to avoid touching the blue girl from now on, though at least now that he had knowledge of her ability it might not affect him that badly next time. Nonetheless, he ended up making people feel worried for him and that was the last thing he wanted, maybe he could still make his way out of it.

"im... i'm fine now," said Sans, letting out a long sigh and closing his eyes for a moment in order to better calm himself down, "thanks for the concern, Caro" he added.

Taking a deep breath, Sans opened his eyes again and looked at Sadness sitting down, offering him a chance to talk about his issues. She had no idea what she would be getting herself into if he took the opportunity, fortunately he had no intention of doing so and would rather not have anybody feeling unnecessary pity for him. He began standing up, he was still a little shaken as one could tell by the way he was still unstable while trying to stand, but he managed to not lose his balance.

"nah, none of it matters anymore. i was just caught offguard," he told Sadness, the look in his eyes going back to his more casual self, although he avoided making eye contact with her or anyone else in the group for that matter. He then looked down a little and noticed some wet spots on his clothes followed by some more drops falling, only now did he realize that he was crying. "wow," he began chuckling, though it sounded a little forced "you sure did a number on me. i don't think i remember the last time i cried."

He then began wiping his tears with a hand. At the same time he glanced at the new arrival, a guy. Well, at least he wasn't the only guy in the group anymore, but this one seemed to be of the flirty type, those were usually funny to mess with so he made a mental note to try a few jokes on him later, if nothing else it would be a way to feel better about the whole event that just happened. Oddly, despite everything, now that he had begun calming down he started to feel... slightly better. Maybe letting out some of the pain helped, though doing so in front of a bunch of people was not exactly what he would call ideal.

"so, uh... where were we before this tearible accident happened?" he asked everyone in an effort to change topics.

Totally Fun Times Outside the Library

Fortunately, it looked like Sans recovered pretty quickly from the emotional tango, if that pun was any indication. Which was just as well; Zelda just now realized that she probably should have tried to help instead of just standing back. She couldn't help but feel a little guilty now.

"Well, it's good to see that you're still all right, Sans," she said with a smile, "And it's good to know that it wasn't anything harmful. Or intended to be harmful, anyway."

Now that Sadness had stated what the cause was, Zelda was awfully curious about her now. She was fairly certain that any being of sadness back in her world would have been a malevolent monster, but she wasn't in her world anymore. She'd have to question the little blue person some more if they really got to know each other.

"If you'd like to talk about something else, I believe Mary asked about not being able to get hurt today. I'm wondering about that too, and I'm sure our new friend here," she motioned to the newcomer, "would like to know a little more about what's been going on."

She never thought she'd be thankful that she was stuck as a little girl today, but the newcomer's arrival gave her just such feelings. He reminded her a little too much of Groose for her liking; he even had the pompadour down. Fortunately it didn't seem his ego was anywhere near Groose's, but given the way he seemed to be interested in Mary she was happy to be spared that kind of attention.

Outside the Library

Caro got up as Sans did. She smiled in relief, being glad that her new friend seemed to be feeling somewhat better now, if that pun was any indication. Still, it seemed he would rather not talk about whatever was bothering him and while she was still worried about that, she would have respect his wishes for now. " No problem, Sans, " she replied while flasing a even brighter smile, " I'm glad to have helped and that you are feeling better now."

She then thought about Sadness's explanation of what happened. She guessed that it made seen that someone with that rather ... unique name would have some sort of connection to the feeling that it represented. She had never seen magic capable of doing such a thing and she was somewhat curious about it, but she decided that it was best to leave that for anothet time, given what had just happened because of such an ability.

It was also at this point that Fried stopped glaring at Sadness and decided to fly back to his mistress' side.

" Anyway, I think Zelda is right. It would probably be a good idea to explain just what's happening around here. I just got here and I know that you haven't been around much longer, but at least you know more about this place than I do, " she said to Sans.

Morty coughed a few times. "I mean, like, uh, no one can actually die here, right?" He rubbed the back of his head and tried not to remember his own death two days prior. "Like, uh, i-i-if someone, uh, gets ki-killed, you know, they just, like come back to life and... stuff."

What an interesting crew.

Ringabel was aware now that his entrance was quite poorly timed, though part of him couldn't muster the energy to feel terribly sorry about it; something about this whole situation was beginning to nag at him, and not because it felt like a trap. A common theme had emerged in the dialogue between these...friends? And that connection was the mention of an "explanation" for this "situation" that they had all found themselves in. Ringabel frowned. Either the wizard playing a trick on him was especially clever in how they had constructed this false reality, or...

Or this incident truly was on a larger scale than even he had feared.

Suddenly, an instinctive and primal fear leapt into Ringabel's belly and secured an iron grip on his bladder, and he blanched. The others. If this truly wasn't just some wizard's hallucinatory trick, then his friends were now alone, a trio instead of a quartet, now tasked with finishing their mission without a pilot. And their objective was in the middle of the ocean. Dammit, Ringabel thought, turning his gaze towards the sky as the blue child explained herself and the skeleton pretended to laugh off the situation (though, even in his disturbed state, Ringabel could tell it was an act). I have to get back. I can't just leave them alone. Can't leave...Edea...

He caught a flicker of movement out of the corner of his eye, and looked to find the smaller, blonde girl gesturing towards him, in the middle of saying something; he didn't know what, exactly. Come to think of it, something about her was...off, though he couldn't quite place that, either. Something about her eyes, betraying a level of focus uncommon in ten-year-olds (or whatever age she was). Something was wrong here. Very wrong.

But instead of voicing his fears, Ringabel smiled once more, finally parsing what the "girl" had said. "Indeed! An explanation would be nice...but I'm guessing all of you know about as much as I do, hm? I can see it in your eyes," Ringabel said, his tone betraying the grim state of his mind. Then he brightened up, giving a grandiose shrug, raising his hands far to the sky. "We're all lost here, it seems! A grand trick! Though I'd say it's a bit in poor taste."

Here he examined his nails, portraying false confidence once again. "I had things to do, after all. Ladies to woo, worlds to save, that sort of thing." He threw a wink Mary's and Caro's (she's an adult right now, right?) way, as he was wont to do. "Nothing big, of course. Simply the every day life of a warrior casanova such as myself." He widened his smile.

It still didn't reach his eyes.

Be kind.

"I mean, yeah, okay," said Rick offhandedly. "I, uh, I'll get back to you when I want someone, you know, dead and stuff. Or kind of dead, stuff here is fucked up si-six ways from Sunday... but that doesn't matter, because I'm Tiny Riiiiiiiiiiiick!"

Morty winced at the thought... and kept wincing all the way through Tiny Rick's overenthusiasm. "Man, Rick, you- you know, I thought you were gonna, like give all that stuff up, right? The whole... well... you know... we-weapons dealing business."

"Morty, i-i-it's different. This robot, you know, he's, he's made to kill. It's, like, his only reason to... live, I guess." Rick lowered his voice slightly. "I mean, you know, there's that Marcus guy; stands to reason that he, you know, he's gonna come back at some point and start killin' everything again. Gotta have a, a, what's the word, a hail mary up our sleeve, you know? Robot programmed to take down organic life, probably, you know, knows all the throws, holds, weakspots... I dunno, M-morty, I'm just kinda guessing here. Tiny Rick."

Morty looked down at the playground sand; months of galactic adventures had of course broadened his admittedly narrow horizons... but there still seemed to be something morally troubling about this. "I dunno, Rick, I mean, uh, I guess I kinda got a bad feeling about this..."

"These kinds of custom-built robots, they're like dogs, Morty; you gotta, you know, you gotta let 'em go out on a walk every so often, flex their muscles." Rick turned to the assassin droid. "Anyway, yeah; I'll, uh, I'll get you some, you know, weapons and shit when our librarian quote-unquote friend gets bored."

Somewhere in the city, with Ben

"Well I don't just give them away; if you can bring me some strange or unique flowers, then I'll give you a set of them" the Indian boy said, then looked around and spotted a nearby flower shop that hadn't been there a minute ago. "Ah, perfect timing" he muttered, and walked off that way.

Meanwhile, the boy in the red coat scratched at his cheek for a moment and gave a sort of half frown. "Well that's great and all, but what we need is people, weapons, and somewhere defensible to keep them" the boy told XLR8, shrugging slightly. "Until then, there simply is no militia" he added.

Problems with listening, former anti-human rally

"Pff- whatever" the krogan said dismissively as he left.

As Plague Knight and Rex both spoke to Marcus, the space marine turned boy just scowled again. "Were you not listening? I have made my terms clear. If I see this mockery of the symbol of Ultramar after today, there will be retribution" Brother Marcus told them, indicating the fallen sign. It wasn't just a threat; it was a promise. "So consider midnight your deadline to get the xenos to cooperate" he added, turning away from the two and walking off down the street.

There's technically no drinking age laws, in the library

Bill's comment got a scoff of quick laughter from Miss Tairee. "Buddy I'm like twelve today; alcohol, maybe not the best choice" Miss Tairee said as she started to sit back up. "Besides, if I wanted a drink I could make enough for the whole city" she added, tipping her hat back into proper position and turning to look at Bill.

"... What are you? Wait, let me guess: Four dimensional or five dimensional being?" Miss Tairee asked, hopping off the desk. "Well anyway, I'm not allowed to disclose the nature of the project yet" she stated, and then turned to address Ranma as the gender-flipper spoke.

Miss Tairee was silent for a moment, her expression getting quite incredulous. "What do I want?" Miss Tairee muttered, and then, slowly, started laughing. One big 'hah' after another, a bit intermittent at first but picked up the pace as she gripped her sides and then fell to her knees, her laugh eventually turning coarse as she lost her breath, turning into mere wheezing. After it finally stopped, she took a deep breath to be able to speak again, not yet getting up from her knees.

"What I want is, for starters, for people to be more quiet in the library. Then I'd also like for them to allow me to do my job to help them and maybe realize that I can do more than just conjure pizzas and find books!" Miss Tairee was yelling now, disregarding her own first request as she got back up to her feet. "But what I want most of all, is for no more kids to get hurt in this city! So if ya' can convince my boss to let 'em go or keep 'em invulnerable like today, then I'd be really grateful!" she went on, still yelling and now falling into her Southern Belle accent, pointing back at the suggestion box on her desk, "but I already know he won't do that, SO YA' MIGHT AS WELL NOT BOTHER!"

She took another deep breath and glanced down at the floor, her hands falling to her sides, balled into fists. "... I'm sorry, none of that is your fault" Miss Tairee muttered sincerely, getting her accent back to normal as she looked back up at Ranma. "But if you could just do your best to keep kids safe, that would mean a lot to me" she told Ranma, turning to her laptop and starting to type away on it quickly. After running some command lines, she glanced up; in the open air part of the library above her desks, a few books suddenly flew out from the upper floors, most from the second floor but a few from the third. After arranging themselves in mid air, they zipped downwards and deposited themselves on one of the center desks neatly.

"Ah, good to see that works. Are any of these the sort of thing you were hoping for?" Miss Tairee asked Ranma. Among the books was an instructional book on karate, another on taekwondo, another on kick boxing, and a number of instructional books on various military combat martial arts.

The library

Bill was about to give her a threat but then he saw her giving a rant to another human about keeping kids safe. That gave him another awfully brilliant idea. He waited for her to sit down then floated over to her. "Librarian? I can help keep the children safe from whatever your boss does to them on one condition... tell me what this 'project' is. You obviously don't like the guy and I've never been too keen on people ordering me around" An image of a giant blue baby briefly flickered on his body. "so I believe we're two of a kind in this den of three-dimensional skin puppets. What do you say?"

Jason has come back to kill for Mommy.
