- Name: Carter Stafford
- Description: Carter is a rather handsome, clean shaven man, hair cut in a crew cut usually, and most often dressed in camo pants, a grey short sleeve t-shirt, and a vest over that. He has a muscular, strong build, built up from his time in the army and personal fitness. He has a bullet wound on his right shoulder from an exchange in Iraq with a particular enemy. He most often carries a .44 Magnum Revolver, though concealed and he really would prefer not to have to use it.
- Age: 32
- Police Rank: Senior Sergeant
- History: He comes from a military family, so he traveled around a lot, and he always idolized his father, seeing him as someone he had to become like when he was older. So when he graduated high school, he joined the Marines. He apparently went pretty far, and almost went through Special Forces training...but something apparently went wrong. His service ended and he went home post-haste, discovering something was terribly wrong with his father. The previously strong man apparently had aged thirty years in little more than five. And he was constantly hacking and coughing up strange black blood. His mother told him she saw something in the room one day, and then all this started to happen. Carter ended up joining the police to try to support his ailing father, and made it to Senior Sergeant by the present. He has kept some rather odd ideas to himself of what is causing this, and so when he heard about some "Occult Unit", he decided to see if they could be of more help with his father, transferring in.
- Personality: Carter believes his father is ill due to a Curse, though he doesn't tell that to anyone except "other quacks". Despite his formidable appearance and recent problems, Carter is oddly happy-seeming and uses a lot of comedy - perhaps to hide how powerless he feels. He can be a bit shy, covering this again with comedy. Funny enough, even though he looks, to quote an old coworker "like a Magic Mike extra", he's even shyer around girls. However, do not disgrace either the armed forces or the police, and definitely do not brutalize civilians.
- Skills: Carter trained himself to be able to handle most combat situations, though there are some places he hadn't had the chance to train in - he's skilled at close quarters combat, is a very good shot, is stealthy, and is good at turning vehicles into weapons just as much as he can drive them.
- Equipment: His usual revolver, a baton, a taser.
- Comments:—-
Looks good. He's added.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"He's okay and good to go.
My turn now.
- Name: Mark Yau
- Description: Has typical East Asian features with black hair in a crew cut-type haircut.
- Age: 27... About to turn 28 soon.
- Police Rank: Staff Sergeant
- History: The youngest son of a Chinese-Filipino businessman with three older female siblings, he lived in the Philippines for most of his life until he moved to Washington to study in Seattle University at the age of 16 and graduated with a BA in Political Science at the age of 19, while earning American citizenship at the same time. While he worked in the city for a year, he decided to not return home and make something out of himself by moving to Greenpoint and join the police force. He joined in and was in traffic duties for two years. During his early years, he was commended by the force for improving relations between the city's Filipino and Japanese-American communities. After three years of service, Mark joined with the Tactical Intervention Group as a Corporal. He became involved in TIG operations against armed gangs and the rare case of a lone wolf terrorist trying to operate in the city.
Prior to transferring to the SCS, he was involved in an operation where the TIG was deployed to a compound in the hills to flush out hostile Christian cultists after they assassinate a State Senator for her anti-cult activities regarding the kidnapping of runaway teenagers. The operation was a success with the unfortunate side effect of killing a high-ranking leader, the son of a prominent businessman, when he fired a shotgun at a TIG element. When lawsuits came against him and his unit, the unit protested the accusations that the man's son was executed under the cover of a TIP op. Despite the fact that the courts found the TIG's actions to be lawful, Mark requested to be transferred out after pro-cult supporters attempted to kidnap him with a TIG operator while on duty as a means of "keeping his head down".
The force agreed to have him temporarily placed in the SCS. In the meantime, he serves as the section's "muscle" when force comes to shove that lethal force is authorized. Otherwise, he lends a hand to the officers in investigating crime scenes and other activities the section needs to do.
- Skills: He speaks English (with knowledge of American, Canadian, Filipino and Singaporean-only words) and Tagalog fluently while being able to use Japanese in a conversational level, something he learned from his time in SU, though he can read and write in the same level. He understands Mandarin and Hokkien a bit. He's also very familiar with East/Southeast Asian culture that the force uses it to help foster relationships with various Asian communities when assisting the Public Relations Division.
Thanks to his time in the TIG, he's an expert in close quarters combat, unarmed and armed combat, including the use of small arms. While not that familiar with urban legends and the occult, he has heard stories by browsing through the internet and from stories mentioned by his family and friends over the years.
- Equipment: STI Tactical DS 5" pistol chambered in .45 ACP as his duty sidearm, approved by the GPD thanks to his time in the TIG since they use .45 ACP pistols. Secondary sidearm is a Manurhin MR-73 Gendarmerie with a 4" barrel and black rubber grip, also approved. He uses a Wildsteer Wing Tactic field knife as well.
- Comments: None at all. I should know. Except that he's waiting to see if he can be authorized to get a battle rifle carbine for carry use and a Federal Ordnance Model 714 Mauser-type pistol for personal use while on duty. Initial suggestion is that the force is frowning on it, but has said that it will deliberate on it.

"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Name: Billy Macklin

At the time Billy was 12 years old, so they put him in a child welfare facility where they tried to remove all his bad habits, which failed but he's managed to tone down a bit. 7. Old Fanaticism - If pushed far enough, he can enter a blind rampage sparked by his religious background.

"In the grim darkness of the future, there is only war."Hey Victor,
Looked over the sheet. Nice one too. I saw the update you made too.
I'll put him in the sheet right away.
I guess we're three people in all, I can probably start this up, assuming that Nick has no problem with it.

"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Urban Fantasy with a Special Investigations twist? You have my attention.
- Name: Fiona Abney
- Description: As such.
- Age: 24
- Police Rank: Sergeant
- History: After a brief stint in the Air Force where she served as a 2M0X2 Missile and Space Systems Maintainer and reached the rank of Senior Airman, Fiona returned to her hometown after leaving the military and, needing a new job, joined the GPD. While her primary passion is in science and (in particular) physics, her intelligence got her noticed by the chief of the Homicide Division and she soon found herself as a junior detective working with one of the top homicide detectives in the department. Of course, nothing can last and on their third case, her mentor caught a bad case of death. The coroner listed his official cause of death as "catastrophic myocardial rupture" which is a fancy way of saying "his heart exploded in his chest." The official report leaves the case open and does not draw any connections between the unexplained theft of the detective's recently-donated blood and the primary suspect's rune-covered basement, and to this day Fiona does not know how someone so obviously insane could have pulled off something like that. Regardless, the case had many in the department convinced that she was at fault for her partner's death, and as a wise man once said, the only thing Americans love more than a rising star is a falling one. There was a price to pay for his death, and it turned out to be Fiona's career. She was shuffled off to the Special Crimes Section, a prodigy shot down before her time and left to rot in the dustbin of the GPD.
- Skills: Fiona is a bright student, able to pick up talents quickly as she needs them. Her real skills lie in manipulating rules to serve her needs in ways that others might not expect, and from that is born her skill in physics. As a detective though, she still has a lot to learn, and her people skills in particular are lacking.
- Equipment: As a plainclothes detective, Fiona has acquired authorization to carry an M1911 pistol as a sidearm. Her car is a BMW 228i 2-Series coupe, with all her equipment (ballistic vest, shotgun, etc) stashed in the trunk. For some reason she's been advised to carry a set of silver stakes around, and those are back there too, but she's never had to use them. Her personal vehicle is a Ducati Multistrada 1200s, which she is still working on paying off from her time in the Air Force.
- Comments: Fiona does not believe in the supernatural. There is no big man in the sky to judge us when we die, no bugbear in the corner or beansidhe there to mourn her. No UFO to haunt the night or phobophage to feed on fright, there's nothing there but what we see. Every Naga Fireball or creepy haunted hall, not one among them cannot be explained.

"Your mission is not to nuke the squid god." —FaramirNice to meet you. I'd be glad if there was a foil to my character.
"In the grim darkness of the future, there is only war."@Wysp
- Yo. Finally was able to look it over. Apologies for the police ranking section that somehow disappeared after I deleted it by mistake.
Fiona should be okay, but I'd advise on changing the rank since detective only exists in the GPD structure to differentiate those in plainclothes doing investigation work from the uniformed rank and file.
Based on her history, her rank being Sergeant is fine.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Right, fixed. :) When would be the best time to drop in?
I have to wonder though, 60 miles is an awfully long distance for police boxes...
"Your mission is not to nuke the squid god." —FaramirYeah... Kinda impressed that the Japanese National Police Agency did that system when I visited Tokyo and Osaka a few times. I was in awe with the koban system.
Anyway, you can start right away. There's an Action Prologue going on in the RP thread.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"I'm just saying, 100km is larger than the diameter of some major cities... If there was a police precinct in Los Angeles, the closest police box would be almost halfway to San Diego.

"Your mission is not to nuke the squid god." —FaramirMark me interested. I'll hammer out a potential concept to explore—it might need some trimming and cutting to fit the game, but I've some ideas that'll need GM approval first...

Nope!

- Not too late. It's still open.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Would there be space for a Medical Examiner in the SCS?

"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"- Name: Gabriela Acarrafe
- Description: 1.6m tall, brown eyes, brown hair, tan skin, round glasses.
- Age: 28
- Police Rank: N/A
- History:
Everything when to shit when she started residence.
She'd always been very good at dissections, never even a tad squeamish when it came to blood. So long as she was wearing gloves, she could be elbow-deep in intestines and be enjoying herself. She had a firm, but careful hand with the scalpel, and she knew what to do and how to do it by heart. It was obvious she'd be a great surgeon.
Then the first surgery she was let into happened, and she fainted.
She could cut open a dozen corpses in an afternoon without breaking a sweat, and show any professor what was wrong with whom, and why. She could not do the same with a living person. Someone whose life depended on her hands. It was not the blood that forced her to leave the world of surgery, nor was it the hours, or the demanding doctors. She would have failed in an equally terrible manner had she been a nurse. Gabriela could deal with blood and guts, severed organs, other bodily fluids, and more. She could not deal with the magnitude of the responsibility required when you literally have someone else's life in your hands, and any mistake on your part can threaten, or kill them. A rational part of her put emphasis on how most surgeons made mistakes, and a lot of them at that. Plenty of surgeons at one point or another left a pair of tweezers, or a watch, in a patient. Most of those people survived. But that didn't steady her hands when it was time to help in a surgery.
She transferred out of surgery and into Anatomy and Pathology, and the more academic environment helped her. Soon after her transfer, she began working towards getting a forensic pathology certification. A job offer took her to Greenpoint, and she's been working as the local Medical Examiner ever since.
- Skills: Fluent in Spanish, French, and English, so she can act as a translator while not in the autopsy room. She's also able to provide first aid, and do minor surgery(say, stitches, removing bullets from muscle-fibre heavy areas) in a pinch, though the more dangerous it becomes the more reluctant she is to do it.
- Equipment: When she's on duty, she usually has access to all of the required tools of an M.E. (scalpel, tweezers, trays, reagents for tests, some staining compounds, microscope, etc.) as well as the obligatory first aid kit.

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, you can't sell him fish anymore. http://thoughtfulspurts.wordpress.com/Good thing I saw this before I'm about to turn in for the night. She's fine, so she can appear at the SCS office after being called in.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"
Welcome to Greenpoint, one of the largest cities in the State of Washington. The city of hospitality in the state. One of the biggest cities in King County, it's the home of 199,300 people.
But beneath the hospitality that has made the city known in Washington, it's known as the city of urban legend. There has been a story. A whisper in the streets on the urban legends that were told from generation to generation, from family to family and from friend to friend.
Chain mails, white ladies, the sewer gator... these are examples of urban legends. Are they real or is the criminal underworld using them to cover their tracks? But even if that's the case, what if these legends... do have a grain of truth in them?
Enter the Special Crimes Section. Officially, they're in place to help augment the Crime Bureau with anything unusual that their officers may come across, they unofficially step in when a case is suspected to have a paranormal leaning. Its personnel come a range of divisions and specialist jobs. Some were transferred because of occult experience. Others were transferred because of a Noodle Incident in the force's history. While a few transferred on their own request.
Apologies of the bad intro. Had to get it out there.
Anyway, welcome to Urban Legend Investigations. Inspired by the Hayarigami games made by Nippon Ichi, the game centers on a "special" police unit known as the "Special Crimes Section" of the force's Crime Bureau. They're called in by the Greenpoint Police Department to resolve cases that may or may not have a paranormal angle in it. When you find clues/evidence from the crime scene and obtain statements from relevant parties, the decisions you have as a part of the unit can impact the case if it can be solved from a logical angle or from a paranormal angle. After all, Nothing Is Scarier and woe to anyone who doesn't like to tangle with the paranormal.
The rules are simple. Don't do anything unless you ask the GM and oks it and don't harass the players. You should know this and the other no nos if you've played a RP before on this site or in another site.
Although the unit has active officers in it, civilians are allowed to be employed in-game as specialists (e.g. occult specialist, tracker, etc.) to the unit as needed.
Be careful with the signups folks. Anyone playing a police officer character should note that anyone with the rank of Chief Inspector and Inspector and above aren't recruitable as they're responsible for commanding positions. So if you're doing this, pick a rank from Assistant Inspector and below.
There is no maximum nor minimum of players, although 3-4 would be at best since in-universe, the SCS is a small section.
Any questions/comments regarding this, let me know. The Interest check/worldbuild thread stays up as the de facto discussion thread.
