Oh, I think that's certainly coming. A lot of the stuff that's conspicuously missing from the original game—slopes, Star Coins, desert and icy themes, Luigi—feels like it's being Saved for the Sequel.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?Vertical designs would be nice, too.
I sure said that!Oh, dude, I'd love to remake Parrot-Chute Panic (using the Diddy Kong mystery mushroom, of course!).
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?Vertical levels for life...
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.I kinda half-assed one vertical level (via pipe and door use); it was workable, but it was seriously flawed, and I'd love a true vertical level. Especially if I could do autoscroll.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Especially if it came with a Tower tileset.
I sure said that!Tried ideas to make an Advancing Wall of Doom. (Funnily enough, the same kind as the picture on the trope page...)
Rails: Objects on rails do not collide with the teerain which is good. But it's too slow.
Adding onto the speed issue, the slowest auto scroll is too slow to keep up with railed objects, while the next speed tier is too fast and outpaces the pseudo wall of death.
Conveyor belt on fast: objects on belt move about as fast as a running Mario on normal ground, which is good.
Objects on a conveyor belt collide with terrain, thus making it impossible to build a wall on the belt unless Mario also ran on, but then Mario would also gain the speed benefit, which kills the purpose of the wall of death, which is bad.
I kind of wished we had a layer to set things on that ignore terrain collision, but still retain their hurt-box to relation to Mario.

You could put wings on it, if you're using blocks...or place a tall bullet bill launcher in a Clown Car below the stage.

YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.Hmm, I really wanted to stick spikes and sawblades to it though...
But those are some thoughts.
Who says it needs to be autoscroll anyway? Isn't an advancing wall already an incentive to keep moving? I've seen the concept done when it's just a small corridor with a blade or other obstacle chasing you.
Well I would prefer no autoscroll, but rails make stuff move too slow.
I should remember to try that Clown Car thing next time.
Well, the catch about using rails to have an obstacle follow Mario is that there are ways to abuse them to get around the forced scrolling idea. I've broken several would-be Advancing Wall of Doom levels to get behind said wall, allowing me to clear the level at my leisure (and many of those levels only have a challenge if you have only a limited time to get past the obstacles).
Sawblades (or Podoboos, which I've also seen) can be worked past by just taking the hit if you have a power-up, and more solid blocks eventually get blocked by other solid blocks (or actually be used as a helper by allowing wall jumps). Or, sometimes, you can just spring off of other things to get over the would-be wall.
Spikes can work, but they're a bit inelegant.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.I would totally use the auto-scrolling level type more often, but it doesn't let you overtake the camera and accelerate the edge of the screen like you can in Rayman Legends, and that's rather annoying.
H.B. WardYeah, cheating those kinds of levels is a problem. I would recommend either putting a string of saws or something to keep you from getting through with invincibility frames, or just leaving you as small Mario. Given the theme of the level, making you a One-Hit-Point Wonder actually seems kind of appropriate.
That would be the point of auto-scrollers....
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.I meant the right side of the screen, dude. You would still be mandatory to advance in the horizontal, you'd just be able to do it faster than the main speed of the camera.
H.B. WardIn case someone's still playing this game, I made a new level: Battle on Donut Bridge! It's one a them scrolling tank gigs.
If someone could play it and maaaybe throw it a star, I'd appreciate it. I worked pretty hard on it and I don't want it to get booted off the server for being unpopular.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?I haven't played in over a year... that said, I'll try to squeeze in some time to hit it tonight after chores. Man, I wish adulting didn't eat up so much time.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. Thanks, guy! I hope you like(d) it, and I welcome constructive criticism.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?Same problem here, brahz. I actually had two levels deleted for basically the same reason, and I quite liked them. Only, I can't help now. My Wii U was unplugged days ago, and now it's stuck in my disorganized room.
Actually, can you star in a PC web browser? Because I totally will.
Either way, next step for me: Romhacks. After watching a lot of raocow and seeing how undifficult it can be, I'm gonna make my own once my other software project is done. I know Lunar Magic SMW's got no native Super Mario Bros. 3 theme built-in, but I guess I'll just have to work around that.
Honestly, I think I should encourage other players to do the same. I really liked Super Mario Maker, but Nintendo didn't treat it well.

H.B. WardI don't know if anyone here's still playing this, but I just updated my two favorite courses for an LP'er that I follow. Here they are just for the heck of it:
The Ultimate Enemy: The Camera! 0106-0000-039B-6F00
Hot & Cold Castle 6B47-0000-039B-77E5
I also added a little something. If anyone's still playing, please give me a star so I can keep it on the server!
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?Bumping this thread to prep it for 2's launch on June 28th.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Release date trailer:
Also, if you preorder, you'll get a Mario Maker-themed stylus and 12 months of Nintendo Switch Online. As of now it has only been confirmed for Japan and the UK, hopefully it'll be available elsewhere:
Someday I wish Nintendo would release super mario maker world that allows people to make entire mario games. With slopes and vertical levels.
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans.
