Maleficent Sequel

According to io9, Disney has started work on the sequel to the 2014 Maleficent movie.

Me too. It should actually be called Meleeficent. It's about Angelina Jolie punching people for two hours.

When I read that headline, I thought the title of the movie was going to be Maleficent: All Hope Lost. I was then disappointed.

You can't kill God. You know how hard it is to kill God? You would need each and every raiding guild from the most densely populated server in World of Warcraft just to put a dent in Him.

Or you can just kill Piccolo instead, but that's a bit trickier.

Anyways, I liked Maleficent. Or at least, the relationship between Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent.

I'd rather have a cinematic universe that stays true to the spirit of the original animations

Is anyone considering the sequel might take Maleficent down a darker path? Maybe not full on villain but still more morally dubious than the previous film?

I thought she was fairly morally dubious in the first film.

Regardless of what's been done to you, murdering someone's children as an act of vengeance is victimizing a person who has done you no harm out of spite. Both sides of the conflict were assholes and the only reason Maleficent changed her mind about murdering Aurora for spite is because she grew fond of the child - which is, itself, the product of her own malicious curse misfiring and hitting her in the leg, as she explicitly stated that Aurora would "be loved by all," and as we see later in the film, even Maleficent is subject to the rulings of the curse.

Stefan stole Maleficent's wings, Maleficent stole Stefan's child, and then they proceeded to try to murder each other until one finally died, with many people killed and many lives ruined in the crossfire. They're both assholes.
