I find the Gamecube controller to be much more comfortable and ergonomic overall compared to the N64's, it just transparently wasn't designed for anything that would require a decent d-pad.

Yeah, as much as I love the N64 the joystick is a pretty big issue.

I tend to replay N64 games on the Virtual Console if possible even if I own the cartridge because of it.

Of the 6 controllers I have one has a stick in good condition, and another is passable. The others are all slack.

Every time I look at my Nintendo 64 controller I wonder how I even managed to use the thing.

So NBA 2K21's pre-orders have started... and, as you may know, the next-gen versions of the game will be $70, NOT $60. There's also been speculation that future PS5 and Series X AAA games, in general, could hike up to $70.

If this is the case, games for the next generation of Sony and Microsoft consoles will cost more than games for the Switch. Perhaps this is an opportunity for Nintendo to attract cost-sensitive gamers? The Switch is already standing out with a wider selection of family games than either PS4 or Xbox One, and I personally think this could be a golden chance for the company to promote their games as exciting titles that can cost less than those of the next-gen consoles. Thoughts though?

Perhaps, but whatever comes after the Switch will probably just follow suit on the price hike anyway.

This is why I play so many old and indie games.

Maybe they could introduce some Selects? Though the general consensus on that seems to be 'not until later in the Switch's life', I wonder if it'd really hurt to discount some earlier Switch titles. Or they could try and do some 'sales events' on the eShop kinda like Steam sales. At least that might push them to improve the damn interface.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild already hit €70, and some of the other big games have been €65. Nintendo's already on the price hike.

I don't see them reducing the prices any time soon. Those games keeps selling like hot cakes, and they probably figured that volume sales are already so high that the increase resulting from a price drop wouldn't compensate for the per-unit reduction. Nintendo know they can rely on the Church of Mario to keep buying their games no matter the price, which is why even eShop games tend to be more expensive than on the PSN and XBox Whatever. Heck, even in the second-hand market, Nintendo games tend to cost more than games on other consoles.

Prices of anything are a function of demand over supply. Demand for Nintendo games is has long been disproportionately high, which means the price is also disproportionately high.

[up]That must be a market situation, because in the states, they haven’t put anything out for more than $60.

I'm still missing when games only costed 50$. sad

And if I'm not mistaked, Canadian stores already put a 70$ price to many AAA games since some time ago.

I've kinda grown in the past few years to just really hate the overall AAA game market, at least the western market.

Now the main games that interest me are either Japanese-developed AAA games, AA games, Indie games, or old games (though my interest in 7th generation stuff is way less than 6th generation or lower).

But games made by Activision-Blizzard, Epic Games, EA, Bethesda, or Take-Two have just been completely uninteresting or outright malicious and I refuse to support them

If AA refers to mid-level games, I think that is something that has taken a bit of a hit and is only now starting to recover somewhat. Just to name one genre, even back in the Gamecube/PS 2 era you had numerous platformer games that were not significant/expensive projects, but weren't indie titles either. Around the 7th generation that resource tier of games started drying up, to the point where something like A Hat in Time is significant because it feels like a throwback to that kind of release.

AA games to me are the games that have the backing of a publisher but don’t necessarily attract a mainstream audience, typically don’t bother with looking uber-realistic and actually budget their shit correctly, usually they experiment with stuff while AAA games don’t bother with experimenting.

Basically think a game like Gravity Rush, Neptunia, Disgaea, Bomberman, or Atelier

Usually a AAA game is one that appeals to the mainstream and has a full development studio and publisher. AA is usually not mainstream but has a full development studio and publisher. Indie games just lack a publisher. Unless it’s something like Cuphead where that only had a small dev team.

So a Sega dude said the Switch plays really nice with the NAOMI board and thinks Dreamcast games could be coming soon. I don't have an exact source for this but Arlo talks about it at the end of this video from today.

That sounds cool in theory but the only good Dreamcast games are Skies of Arcadia and Illbleed, and we're probably not getting the latter.

(The former needs an HD re-release with all the content and rebalancing from the GC version)

The DC version of the original Soulcalibur is supposed to be really good. The original Sonic Adventure is also more stable than later versions, apparently.

Jet Set Radio is good but Future is god-tier. It's a masterpiece and still trapped on the Xbox.
