What a disgusting hate crime.
It would be nice if France would grapple with their systemic racism, for those knowledgeable, is there any major movement/political force trying that? Something similar to BLM and its sympathetic politicians in the US?

"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnDon't think so, no. The french public is far too scared for that currently due to the islamic terrorist attacks.

"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnThis has always been the biggest tragedy of terrorism - it works. People are stupid enough to give these monsters exactly what they want - fear and divison. Every fucking time.

People are so desperate to let terrorism justify their prejudices.

"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnPeople have been comparing the internet responses for that news as well as that news about a professor being decapitated by a muslim student for showing art caricatures of the prophet in class. You should have seen the responses for the latter news. I can't recall how many times I see commenters stating that every Muslim should condemn this act and that muslims are barbaric and/or backwards and should be rid of. Man, the tension is bloody high.
The Final NameThere was BLM protests in Paris IIRC againt the Police Nationale's use of chokeholds. It's overturned due to protest from PN unions(?) that they're necessary to arrest/detain suspects.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Yeah, the spread of the BLM movement overseas, to countries where the African population isn't as large nor treated with the same degree of discrimination as in the US, has been an interesting and somewhat unexpected outcome.
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."Well, there was that whole civil war thing in the '50s that killed a few hundred thousand African Muslim French residents.

Echoing hymn of my fellow passerine | Art blog (under construction)Weeeeeeeeellllll... I meeeeaaaan...
Us European countries love to tell ourselves that we're so much more enlightened when it comes to race than those damn Americans, but the reality is that when we all collectively ended slavery, the now liberated slaves were all safely tucked away in our colonies, not mixing or interacting much with our white population back home. We didn't get very (openly) racist, because we simply didn't interact with our former property all that much.
But you should see how fucking systemically racist the average Dutch rural municipality gets when people from the former Dutch Antilles (who are by and large black descendants of former slaves) decide to take advantage of their Dutch citizenship and move here.
It's not pretty. They're fellow Dutch citizens. They get treated significantly worse than white immigrants.
Edit: Actually let me give a concrete example
For a while Dutch Antillians were the only Dutch citizens who had to take part of the Dutch Citizenship test when they move to the Netherlands proper. Specifically part of that was a language test.
Seems fine, right? You want people to be able to speak the local language. Except that Dutch Antillians already speak Dutch. They just speak a colonial dialect of Dutch that has a lot of Native and Spanish loanwords. The language test was specifically designed to be much easier for someone learning the language from scratch than for someone who already spoke Antillian Dutch and had to learn the differences.
Except, due to the nature of some of the multiple choice questions (Lots of gotcha questions using those Spanish loanwords) for native Spanish speakers, which is how that bias was discovered. People noticed that white native Spanish speakers had much higher failure rates than everyone else... Except Dutch Antillians. Previously the explanation for why so many Dutch Antillians failed the test was "Well they're black from a region with poor education, what did you expect?"

Angry gets shit done.Paris and Istanbul are having a word war since Erdogan is pissed and says Macron that he needs a mental check.
The ambassador's recalled after Macron mentioned that freedom of expression will not surrender to Islamist threats.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"I’m surprised to not see more discourse on what’s happening in France after the teacher’s murder
Really? It feels like its been talked about everywhere. Its not like it was particularly buried.
The Final NameYep, here in the UK it's been plastered all over the news. Incident and responses and all.
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerI should have clarified on this site.
ah, gotcha.
The Final NameWhat's with the article putting the word racist in quotation marks?
I don't see it.
The Final NameProbably a liability thing ("we aren't saying it's racist, just that people are saying it's racist"). Same as how they have to append "alleged" to charges until someone's convicted.
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faer"Yeah, it's probably a hate crime, but it hasn't actually been confirmed to be a hate crime by the authorities yet."
Disgusted, but not surprisedIt's just like being mandated to say 'Alleged perpetrator'.

"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Didn't read/watch the speech (I'm somehow less informed about what happens in France than in the US), but wasn't said speech in response to someone being murdered over the caricatures? Because if so, such a boycott could be construed as endorsing the murderer. Religion of peace indeed.
