Hey guys, remember Yu-Gi-Oh! Reshef of Destruction? Remember how hard and grindy that game is? Well I just stumbled unto an IPS Patch here that rebalances the game quite a bit.

-Selling a card gives you 50% of the card's price

-Cards can be sold even at 1 copy

-Card prices never change

-Life points always start at 8000 for the player

-Life points always start at 8000 for all opponents outside the Hall of Eternity

-Duelist level no longer does anything

-Permanent effects show text only once per card

-The permanent effect cursor no longer has to take 2 seconds of your time to scan the board

-New Deck Cost formula implemented with adjustments

Changes to the cards include:

-Dark-Eys Illusionist, Nightmare Penguin, Barox, Dark Chimera, King of Yamimakai, Castle of Dark Illusions, Reaper of the Cards, and Metal Guardian now have accurate TCG stats

-Exodia and the Petit Moth cards now have orange card colors

-Fire Reaper, Ooguchi, Rainbow Flower, Jinzo #7, and Queen's Double can now attack directly

-Infinite Dismissal was given Negate Attack's graphic

-Torrential Tribute was given Mirror Force's graphic

-Former Ritual Monsters are no longer Divine attribute

-Ritual Summoning no longer possible. The Ritual spells were replaced with three brand new cards:

-Weather Report: His effect negates the effect of Swords of Revealing Light

-Maiden With Eyes of Blue: Her effect summons Blue-Eyes White Dragon

-Kaibaman: His effect sacrifices himself to summon any Dragon monster from your hand, including Slifer. Irony?

It's a hell of lot better than before. One time duelists give you 10 Deck Capacity, and repeating duelists 5. Nearly every card in the game is somewhere between 20-60 Duelist Level, which means the stronger cards like Baby Dragon don't take nearly as much grinding to safely use 3 of in your deck. Money grinding is also a lot easier now that everyone gives you 500-1000 Domino when you beat them, and those are just the early game opponents. By the time I beat Rebecca I had a Duelist Level of 137, whereas in the unpatched games I'd still be level 87 or so.

How does Duelist of the Roses compare in terms of difficulty? just Early Game Hell or is it genuinely harder than Forbidden Memories (assuming no mods/patches)?

[up]*2 pages back

Late to the thread, but they did create a retrained Red-Eyes theme, with "Red-Eyes Black Flare Dragon" as the retrained version of the central card (now a Gemini monster with an Inferno Fire Blast effect), and even retrained versions of Meteor Dragon, Summoned Skull, and Gearfried, and retrained fusions of B. Skull and Meteor B., among others. While it's still not Blue-Eyes tier in terms of support, at least there's enough to build a deck around.

Reshef of Destruction - Actually Tolerable Now update: I've just unlocked Slifer the Sky Dragon and defeated Mai after suffering 4 losses in a row to her. I have a duelist level of 187 and a Deck Capacity of 1950. For comparison's sake, one of the guides I found recommends waiting until the Galapagos islands are unlocked and dueling Mako with Thunder cards until you reach Duel Level 183 or 200. The Galapagos islands aren't unlocked until you are trying to get the 6th Millennium Item. Doing that normally would take hours on top of the hours you'd have to play just to unlock that location.

This patch is great.

Reshef of Destruction - Actually Tolerable Now update: 2200 Deck Capacity after beating Mako, and with 250+ Duelist Level I can use Monster Reborn in my deck. Yeah, seems like even the author of this patch though some cards were too powerful to reduce to 20-70 Duelist Level and kept their vanilla levels. No matter, my deck currently had more than a handful of 4-star monsters with 1400 attack. Way more than you could possible have at Galapagos. In terms of the plot, the Neo Ghouls just invaded Domino City.

Is that the one that's Battle City but with you playing a generic self-insert character?

Reshef of Destruction - Actually Tolerable Now update: 3000 Deck Capacity after beating Bandit Keith, saving Ishizu, getting Slifer back, and having 140 duels on Tristian to grind up the rest of my new Deck Capacity number. I also have 538 Duelist Level, which is only important because it lets me add Change of Heart to my deck. Since doing that would eat up most of my new Deck Capacity however, I instead add Monster Reborn, Heavy Storm, Raigeki, Dark Hole, and 2 copies of Pot of Greed. I even have 100 Deck Capacity left over after that!

Can anyone explain to me the flaws of the Millennium World/Memory World arc? And how it affected the story?

If I remember correctly, Kazuki Takahashi was sick when he was writing that arc. Which lead it to end it sooner than expected.

Takahashi's illness was pretty bad since, I heard the poor guy actually puked blood while he was drawing!

No Wonder Takahashi was sick, the manga industry is a cutthroat business. It actually hurt the arc in question.

The poor guy probably should have gone on hiatus there. No one should be working with an illness that bad. Of course, it's possible that he didn't have a choice.

The anime had a chance to fix the arc, but they squandered it by adding a useless filler arc and changing many events to the point that the arc made even less sense.

[down] I was referring to the KC Grand Prix. At least the Doma arc tries to be important (emphasis on tries).

That mention of the DOMA Arc reminds me... I have been meaning to ask, does anyone here know about Shin Yoshida? From what I heard.

This guy is supposed to be the one behind the DOMA Arc and some parts of Arc-V.

I also know he is a very controversial figure, and I have seen people multiple times using him as a scapegoat for most if not everything that goes wrong with the animes.

For people more well versed on the subject, is this guy really as bad as I heard him to be?

[up] I too want to know about Yoshida. Ono also gets criticism as well for his poor writing habits.

Holy carp! That is really interesting! How odd that even though Yoshida was probably involved in Mai's villanous turn during the DOMA Arc, he had no involvement in episodes focused on her. And instead those episodes were done by a completely different writer named Omode Akemi. (Who is actually a woman.)

(I'll continue commenting on more details as I am reading through this.)

Huh, I certainly didn't know Yoshida worked on Speed Grapher of all series. And I guess I can kinda see now why he is so obsessed with that whole thing of "Kokoro No Yami/Darkness Of The Heart".

Also freaking seriously! Why are there so many series that take elements from Devilman!? Since I haven't finished GX, I didn't know that Season 3 took elements from it!

Heh, not gonna lie. That comparison between Divine from 5D's and The Leader from The Simpsons got a chuckle out of me.

[up][up] Ummm, who is "Ono"?

Katsumi ono, the other big name for 5d's. Or, as described in the thread, " While yoshida's trying to settle a story, Ono seems to be intent on rule of cool going " But what if we added Wizard Hoverbike Centaur men with Lasers ?"", which is the most accurate assessment of whatever the fuck placido does during his duel against yusei before finally getting shut down by the coolest thing ever invented.

that thread is a a blessing, thanks for the link !

Someone really has to archive that thread, because holy hell. That is a hell of alot of really interesting behind-the-scenes stuff that must be preserved.

Because it came first and was influential due to several other factors. Same with other old works.

Yeah, it's really interesting to see how the various flaws of the shows that have been repetaedly pointed out come from different writers working on the same thing and real life things fucking you over. And neoarkadia's analysis of gx reaaaaally makes me want to watch it.

5D's had an almost comical list of production troubles, the sources of many of which being largely unknown (two of the more common theories, rewrites due to Too Soon with Carly's actress's cult scandal, and rewrites to give Crow more prominence, were seemingly debunked recently) - it's a miracle it's still generally considered the strongest apart from the original.
