Not an actual answer, especially since I don't play the game, but from what I've seen Marduk has either this Tier Induced Scrappy or Complacent Gaming Syndrome going on right now. At the very least in the online aspect.

Hard-hitting female brawlers are always welcome in my book. It's the whole reason why I want Tifa to be in Tekken, Well besides bias reasons.

I was hoping for a woman who looked over 40, and/or (preferably and) a fighting style that wasn't East Asian.

For this particular fighter? No. I suppose she could've had her own take on Sambo.

Other styles around the world do exist. I don't have a ton of ideas, it has just bugged me for a while that Tekken has, for example, Julia, Michelle, and Leo all using variations of the same style. Or Soul Calibur having Talim using Tonfa, when they could've just been Karambit for similar effect.

I get some reasons for why, though. A lot of East Asian unarmed martial arts were formalized earlier than in other parts of the world, especially when a lot of the world was focusing on armed martial arts (but that opens up as Soul Calibur can of worms I've already gone down in the appropriate thread). And East Asian martial arts are popular worldwide. And of course, there's the Write What You Know trope.

I'm not even saying they all play the same. They don't. It's just, Tekken has quite good representation of people, and I'd like representation of styles to match that.

If she's the end of this fighter pass, maybe they will add Tekken Ball again. Or online support for Tekken Bowl. Or Tekken Tunes for the PC version.

She... gives me the vibe of like a Virtua Fighter character. I couldn't see anything in her fighting style or personality that made me go "oh wait what."

• Kazumi comes in riding a f-cking tiger
• Negan has a bat and is modeled after a famous actor
• Noctis has a sword and is a JRPG protagonist
• Leroy is a Wing Chun god with tons of swagger
• Kunimitsu is a long-awaited returning veteran and a ninja
• It seems like the gimmick with Lidia is being relatively normal

I'm genuinely curious if there's something about Lidia on a technical level that I'm just not grasping here.

I guess there's nothing wrong with her. I just never expected someone so serious and non-comical in Tekken ever again. I mean, that Serafino guy is similarly boring, but his backstory is that he's part of a clan of exorcists or something. Lidia feels pedestrian in comparison. Feng Wei is taciturn as all heck but he does ridiculously over the top stuff.

This youtuber seems to think of her as being Leroy 2.0, or more accurately, what Leroy should have been like.

I suppose I'm looking at it the wrong way, and Tekken isn't about grounded styles (no, that's not a joke about juggle combos).

I was hoping for another grappler, myself (I like grapplers, okay) but I guess Nina fills the 'lady with chain throws' archetype already. Expecting a lady who looked older than 30 was always a pipe dream, though. :V

Overall my reaction is 'eh'. Ordinarily I get really excited about 'normal' characters in fighting games (I'd be hype for Makoto coming back in Street Fighter VI, for instance), but she almost seems too normal, somehow. I dunno.

If you asked me for a style that's not represented, I'd have probably said Kajukenbo, a Hawaiian mixed martial art that originated in the 40s (I think) - allegedly the original mixed martial art (the name comes from Karate, Judo, Kenpo and Boxing, but as I understand it practitioners are encouraged to use whatever techniques they like). I've seen some videos and there's lots of clinching going on, I could see a character using it turning out like a quicker version of Marduk, just with clinches instead of ground tackles.

I suppose King is the closest we have to a (British) Catch Wrestling style, but he's still heavily based on modern pro wrestling.

Despite my comments in the ATLA thread regarding disliking styles favoring one arm, I could definitely see a Dambe fighter. They'd use the leading/open/"shield" hand for parries, grabbing, pokes, slaps, and chops, and use the inside/closed/"spear" hand for heavy striking. Other striking surfaces would be the leading knee and the trailing leg, with the leading foot being used for stomps, low pokes, or hooking the opponent's open legs. Stepping forward or backwards, including mid combos, would allow for switching which side is the shield and which side is the spear (let's call this "Sinister Stance"), mirroring the moves. The big problem with a Dambe fighter is that throw escapes would be really easily telegraphed, unless the inputs were made to be mechanically unusual. So some examples assuming starting in left hand leading, orthodox stance:

• 1+3: a "left handed" throw/escape might involve using the left arm to grab the opponent's right arm, hooking it around the fighter's right arm, then using the left leg to deliver a heavy thrust kick to the opponent's exposed right side, retaining orthodox stance.
• 2+4: a "right-handed" throw/escape might involve using the left arm, crossing the body, grabbing the opponent's left arm. and twisting into a spinning backfist with the right hand. The momentum and wristlock could have both fighters fall to their backs as the opponent gets the backfist dropped onto them. The attacker would then kip up, and because of the repositioning done, this would enter Sinister Stance.
• Forward 1+2: use the left arm to grab (anywhere) and pull in the opponent, then use the right arm to deliver a downwards superman punch as the opponent is dragged in. This would switch positions with the opponent and enter Sinister Stance.
• Back 1+3: use the left arm to grab the opponent, and left foot to stomp on their leading foot. From there...
  • 1+2: a headbutt, staggers the opponent.
  • 2: a jab, causes a ballerina spin.
  • Forward 4: a right foot thrust kick. Knocks opponent back and enters Sinister Stance.

I could definitely make a full moveset for the style someday...

Plus, Dambe would give us an actually African fighter, and to the best of my knowledge, none exist in Namco fighters (Zasalamel is Assyrian, and all Black Tekken fighters are from the Americas, or are the Ravens, who were based on a US American).

Stealing this from another forum, but not enough people are pointing out that's Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon.

She looks pretty good, especially compared to some of Tekken 7's new additions, but I'm still miffed to have waited four seasons and never got my kangaroo back. Most everyone else from Tekken 6 has returned, or at least has style-adjacent representation in some form (Wang with Julia and Leo, Bruce with Josie and Fahkumram, Baek with Hwoarang). But for kangaroo-based MMA, I'm left wanting.

I was expecting the new Polish PM character would wear a military uniform or a white business suit but it was a nice surprise that she wore a Karate uniform instead.

So no one is going to bring up that because she practiced karate, she can be compared to Virtua Fighter's own Jean Kujo as an Alternate Company Equivalent?

There's some sort of update coming to the Steam version tonight. I dunno if it's large or small, and I may not even notice, as I'm not planning on playing in the next couple days.

Steam's Golden Week Sale is ongoing now through May 6. Soul Calibur 6 and Tekken 7 are 85% off, and all their DLC (except the Tekken 7 Season Pass 4) is 50% off.

Yea, I guess they still wouldn't put SP 4 on sale even after the spring sales.

It is the most recent/newest one so from that perspective it makes sense. I see it all the time when Dead by Daylight and its DLC goes on sale.

Though Kunimitsu and her stage are on sale for 50% off if bought separately.
