While I'm certain Mulan 2020 and its star actress Liu Yifei has been discussed on this thread before, I think its still worth noting that the film is being boycotted by both Hong Kong protestors, their allies and people who were never fans of Disney's latest cash-grabs/attempts to keep their fists clenched on their copyrights in the first place.
It was peaceful because the cops weren't there to try to stop the protest. They weren't even conducting traffic around the park, we had to coordinate ourselves so that vehicles trapped in the crowd could leave.
Good. Keep going. I wish the next action well.

Reports are coming to suggest that Hogg gave his name alongside Paul Loo to the CAAC as a form of taking the bullet for HK-based staff who support the protests.

I still wonder. Why Pepe?
Watch me destroying my countryIt's the memes Jack!
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleIt's actually understandable when, based off my own experiences in Taiwan and Japan this past year, a number of East Asians see Trump and the American far-right as being the best allies they've had in years. I've heard people in Taiwan praise Trump for his "courage" in not being "shackled by the American business community" who not only are dependent on cheap Chinese labor to cut costs and increase their profits, but also servile to Chinese demands for self-censorship.
Given the relatively homogeneous ethnic makeup of Taiwan, Japan, and possibly Hong Kong, the people there - who are desperate to find any powerful foreign ally - latch onto Trump since the topic of American race relations is distant and out of touch for them.
Yeah. Is not like Non Americans care much for American social values down here in the Global South neither.
Watch me destroying my countryIt's frustrating but understandable since Trump is at least giving Xi Jinping more gray hairs and wrinkles.
Still, they are ignoring the fact that Trump hasn't really committed to supporting HK either. Because he doesn't really give a shit.

Disgusted, but not surprisedIf China does a hard crackdown on HK reminiscent of Tiananmen Square before the election, his resistance to China will be seen as being prescient I think. He'll then be forced to care about HK because his the electorate will. This could put the light of the economic issues as being the result of rightly opposing 'evil' as it were.
Actually Trump has commented on Hong Kong in, ironically for him, the most diplomatic way possible.
After Hong Kong entered its 11th week of protests on Sunday, Trump called for President Xi Jinping to "sit down" with rally leaders.
"I'd like to see Hong Kong worked out in a very humanitarian fashion…It would be very good for the trade deal" Trump said.
The president's comments came amidst efforts in Washington and Beijing to revive high-level dialogue aimed at ending the US-China trade war.
"I think it would be much harder for me to sign a deal if he (Xi) did something violent in Hong Kong," Trump said, and indicated that settling a deal after a violent crackdown would not sit well among the US public.
Trump also warned China that carrying out a 'Tiananmen Square' style crackdown on Hong Kong pro-democracy supporters would harm the trade deal. "I think there'd be... tremendous political sentiment not to do something," Trump said.
However, the US president insisted that "if President Xi sat down with representatives of the protesters ...he'd work something out." He referred to Xi as a "very talented man" who could come to an agreement quickly.
Trump added that conversely the violence could "pressure" the chances of reaching a trade deal with China.

Seems he was pressured to actually take a stance on the issue one way or another.
Trump vs. Xi Jinping is a very odd situation for me, since I have plenty of reasons to hate both of them. Comes with being a Chinese-American person born in the USA who has parents who were born in Taiwan.

Disgusted, but not surprisedEspecially when you can argue that many of the things that make Trump bad are more the fault of the people that surround him, while for Xi one has the impression that he calls the shots on everything. Granted, climate change management is probably a tack in favour of the paramount leader but.

Looks like people in Macau were detained by Macau Public Security Police for not listening to orders to stop showing up in a pro-HK protest rally.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"And here I thought Macau was just staying quiet. I don't suppose that has the potential to erupt into something bigger, as well?
"If you think like a child, you will do a child's work."Nah.
There was a referendum attempt in '14 IIRC, but that was canned because a lot of people didn't turn out to vote. I don't remember the details.
And there was a pro-Umbrella protest a few years ago, but PSPFM arrested those involved in the march.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"I'm not really surprised that Macau can't do much. The CCP has gained de facto control of the city since 1966. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12-3_incident
I mentioned that incident previously in a few threads back.
New broke out that a local staff member working at the British consul in HK was detained by (likely) police after going to Shenzhen.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"More I read on those, the more I'm sure that they aren't related since the old man was initially detained for being drunk IIRC.
Although I'm sure pro-democratic groups will use it as ammo.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Chief Executive Carrie Lam is going to initiate talks...with a bunch of people who aren't protesting.

The protest in Victoria Park has been thankfully peaceful.
