My favorite part is when Marsden screams when Sonic can talk. His face is great XD

Also that's one of the least exciting trailers I've ever seen.

The shoes have changed. Sonic is wearing Puma brand, not Nikes.

Jim Carrey looks like he'll be fun, but everything else looks horrible.

How much you wanna bet people will see it just for Carrey?

I wanted to see it in the hopes it'd be as entertaining as Super Mario Bros, but from the trailer I don't think it'll be that good.

Sonic looks like shit

Human Cop is uninteresting

Most of the jokes fell flat

What about Knuckles & Knuckles Featuring Tails?

I actually really like their portrayal of Robotnik.

I actually don't mind the idea of teaming Sonic up with a cop (I even like it), though I am getting Human-Focused-Adaption cliche vibes. I think it's mostly the way the cops screams when sees Sonic that troubles me.

All available pre-release material suggests it'll be a Human-Focused Adaptation, with Sonic, Robotnik, the rings, and nothing else from the games.

Minutes after the Sonic trailer dropped. Alex Hirsch (Creator of "Gravity Falls") made a series of tweets on how to adapt a beloved IP. Mainly Video Game franchises.

My favorite video game movie adaptations are Super Mario Bros and Street Fighter because they're really fun.

This movie looks not-as-fun.

Here are my thoughts:

• Sonic cgi did turn out weird, especially with the human like proportions
• Yeah the human focused plotline going to be there. Just like with Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014), Yogi Bear and (apparently) Masters of the Universe.
• Jim Carrey not bald and in a fat suit as I thought he would be
• Jokes are hit or miss
• Gangsta Paradise as trailer music instead of Smooth Criminal.

Now that I got the obligatory complaining out of the way, here are some positives I found from my first viewing:

• The cgi for the action scenes loon fucking cool! Seriously they legitimately made Sonic look fast in that film. And the way he spin dash at truck that was following him and Jim? Awesome! I mean for all the complaints of how bad his main cgi design is, the trailer certainly did an amazing job with the action scenes.
• Sonic himself has a personality and voice that have him resemble his previous counterparts. Especially the cockiness and his trademark snark. I’ll cite the missles scene as the best example
• Robotnik also seems to retain a lot of his eccentriv personality from the games. And despite my previous complaints of him not initially looking like his game counterpart, it clear that he will progressed into looking like it (which actually looks good). Plus I do like the designs of the pre Badniks he is using to capture Sonic.
• Jokes are hit or miss . . . so when they hit they earn a chuckle from me like the background gag of Sonic having a shitload of worn out shoes to him being taken out by a tranquilizing dart (which reminds me of the gag where Thor is taken out by a tazer . . . and before you use the excuse that he was depowered in Thor (2011), this gag happened in Thor Ragnarok when he is not depowered . . . which really is saying something as depowered Raiden in a mental asylum could tank a couple of tazer shocks in Mortal Kombat Legacy).
• Wait. Did the human characters just transport to a different location through a ring? Either a reference to the Archie comics or those method for traveling to bonus stages in the game. Either way, that is cool that the movie uses that element for its plot.

So overall while there are some gripes I have with the final product, I can’t say I’m not excited to see this movie like everyone else. Looks like it would be a fun popcorn watch just like the other recent video game movies I have seen (Warcraft, Tomb Raider, Rampage).

Eggman doesn't seem particularly villainous. He just wants to catch Sonic, right? From a realistic standpoint, Sonic is a potentially dangerous alien from another planet (and even if he's not a physical danger, who knows what diseases he could carry). Wanting him under government surveillance makes sense.

I guess that's a problem with all the "Save the alien from the evil government/army" plots, but here it seems more obvious because Sonic's a mammalian animal.

I'm guessing it'll go from 'catch Sonic' to 'kill Sonic and everything else' as the film goes on.

x3 Yeah I read that before. I actually liked that leak plot, so I am glad that they are going for that here.

x2 Judging from the trailer, with the combination of him being kind of an asshole towards the other military officers and the surge from Sonic’s hair effecting his brain (ala his American origin and Fleetway comic origin) its clear that he would progressed to becoming a bigger villain who went beyond the job of just detaining an unknown alien creature.

I don't think this movie would be the first time that the only good part of the movie was Jim Carrey as a beloved childhood icon that looks like Santa Claus.

Carrey might be enough for me to watch this, even though the movie looks mediocre.

I think Sonic's face looks okay, except for those teeth. His proportions are just as nightmarish as that poster indicated they would be. Yuck.

My main problem with the movie is Sonic's design when he's not going so fast you can't focus on him.

Sonic's movie design is kinda like if they took the Goombas from the live-action Mario movie in terms of disturbingly 'realistic' Uncanny Valley, replaced the practical effects with CGI to make them look way less solid and 'real', and made them the main character.

x2 Funny thing about that darts complaint, I was just in a Youtube conversation (yes, conversation not arguement surprisingly) where me and some others come up with the reason why.

I link to basically Rule of Funny similar to how Thor basically is shocked by tazers in both Thor (2011) and Thor Ragnarok (the latter of which he is still Asgardian and retains a lot of his powers/strength). Hell even a depowered Raiden in Mortal Kombat Legacy can tank a bunch of shocks when he was trapped in that mental asylum.

But some people actually came up with some good in universe reasons in that:

1) He is caught off guard by Jim finding his home and had no time to react.

2) Perhaps In the film’s plot Sonic didn’t know what a gun (or projectile weapons for that matter) does as he just learning about those now and have no clue how to react. And seeing how the misslea scene happens later on when he is more aware of such weaponry he now expects them.

But who knows, I really think its there. because of Rule of Funny.
