Lest we forget why Rule 34 is called a rule.
I have a message from another time...Oh, boy. Makes me wish we had...well, any consoles for that matter.
But this looks beautiful.
Hype get.
I went on /v/ last night to see the r34, and it was mostly what I was expecting. I also read A Topless Robot list, and this game is ranked #3 as best game of E3! He also stated: "Squid creatures swimming around and shooting liquid at little girls... Ok, we may have to take back that kid-friendly statement."
The moment I buy this game, i'm printing out an M 17+ icon and labeling the game as that.
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceWell, when you cover Tentacles, Covered in Gunge, and cute girls all in one package, the Fetish Fuel becomes self-sustaining.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls! When I first saw this game, I thought it was similar to Plants VS Zombies Garden Warfare. With it's Lighter and Softer take on the third-person shooter genre.
Mechanically, I think one of the strong points of this game is the low barrier to entry. Even if you're not skilled at shooters, you can contribute quite a bit by just shooting at the environment and feel like you're accomplishing something. I think few other games accomplish something similar; I can only really think of Team Fortress 2's Medic.
Story-wise, I've thought of a city where several inkling factions compete against each other for territory. As all-out warfare has been a bit... messy for the locals, they devised a system where they would hold timed shooting competitions in order to compete for territory. The territory is very valuable for the inklings because they can move much faster in their own ink and much slowly in other colour ink. Due to the extreme convenience having a territory inked in their colour has, and the extreme inconvenience having a territory inked in another colour, the inklings believe that peaceful cohabitation among inklings is impossible. And so the Splatoon competitions continue.
Helpful Scripts and Stylesheets here.Reminds me of latter-day Touhou games.
I have a message from another time...Keep in mind that Turf War is only one mode. It may have been just the only mode complete enough to show at E3.
How long until someone crosses over the little girls?
"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."Something tells me Turf War is going to be the go-to basic mode though. Kinda like the Final Destination of Splatoon.
Get to drawing, lad!
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceThose matches would probably be a lot more fun to watch if the commentator didn't insist on asking the players questions while they were playing the game. Seriously, guy. That's just poor form. Couldn't have been that hard to just look at the screens and give a running commentary of your own and ask questions later, right?
Anyhow, about the game itself; I wonder how many hitpoints the inklings have. I like it when shooters give the players plenty hitpoints, because it makes confrontations more lasting and satisfying.
Looks like the Inklings have low health but respawn quickly.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls! What I want to know is: Do the male Inklings also do the hip sway?
They also bob a bit but they don't sway as much as the girls.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!Could it be possible that the males are actually transgender females if they also hip sway?
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceThey don't sway, more like bob a bit.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls! This is already a game of tentacle-bearing kids that shoot liquid all over the place. They don't need more help.

My personal favorite bit of fanart.
In a semi-related note, I'm curious how the Google trends for Squid Girl look like before and after the game's unveiling.

It doesn't help that some of the artists are very skilled at making the inklings look conventionally attractive without going overboard.
...yeah, I looked them up for a little more than just out of curiosity. I admit it. I'll play the game for the game and let the fans do their thing.
But yeah, 170 pics so soon after announcing, many of them good, is quite the accomplishment.
