As far as Reverse Depth Dungeons, its my opinion that bej77ini is the best one to use. I got a Blood Rock for beating the Watchdog after all.

But by all means try out each one.

Shame one of the best pieces of music in the game is used only for optional bosses. Kind of weird they actually cut off part of this track in the game itself.

Paarl has a great theme too, even if he's a not a good boss himself. abhorrent beast makes much better use of it haha.

Heyo. Just got my hands on Bloodborne, wanted to ask some questions. With Dark Souls I had to look up many of the mechanics that are obscure at best and unexplained at worst in the game proper (like Humanity and Resistance), which led to me being spoiled on a lot of areas, story beats and sidequests by association. I'd rather play Bloodborne the way it was intended to, full blind, so I wanted to ask if there's any mechanic that's necessary as well as unintuitive or unexplained that I should know about before diving in blind.

The only thing I think you should know outright is that your starting armor sucks and you need to find better armor as fast as you can before fighting anything too strong.

Otherwise the game explains everything in the starting area.

Insight. You need at least one to level up for the first time, you gain it by consuming special consumables and killing bosses, but also by the sheer fact of *seeing* bosses. You don't lose it on death, you can use it as a currency, it affects how quickly the madness ailment affects you, and it changes some graphical/audio details depending of how many you have.

If you want a good example of what it can do, try getting it to (semi-spoiler so I'm leaving it up to you if you want to check) 40 and then walking around the cathedral ward chapel.

Backstabs works in that game by making a charged R2 in the back of the victim and THEN R1 ing them while they're down, not just R1 in their back.

If you need ammunition for you gun you can press up on the the d-pad to make 5 bullets out of your blood. Consumes like a third of your hp bar.

I think that's mostly it.

I don’t remember if staggering by shooting an enemy during certain animations is adequately explained by the game.

I DO know that the fact that higher insight = higher difficulty is not explained, so ifnyou’re Having trouble with certain parts, try buying some junk.

Also, you get your first weapon the first time you die. Don’t miss it. tongue

Insight making the game harder is kinda untrue to be fair. it matters in like two areas because of the lowered frenzy resistance and because it passively nerf a beasthood build, but that's not what many players end up going for.

Actually, it also makes certain enemies harder by giving them more attacks and damage.

[up][up]Yes, one very specific type of ennemy in a starting area of the game gains one new attack that isn't that threatening, and another version in the same level gains a buff that doesn't actually do that much, and the same ennemies in a later level have those anyway regardless of your insight level. That's all. And then there's the whole mad one thing in hemwick charnel lane but since you need either 0 insight or to actually do the level while the sun is still out, eh. [up]nope.

If you get hurt you can recover health in a short period of time after taking damage, to gain some of it back, which is called the rally mechanic. Using weapons that can score a fgood amount of health via this mechanic makes fights and the overall game easier.

Also if bosses fall over and you hear a dunh! sound(though I'd just get used to knowing when the proper animation occurs), you can do a special special attack on the front of their head similar to a finisher to deal massive damage. DS 3 had this too(unlike the previous souls games) which I didn't know about until after beating the game lol.

About the armor thing, is it something I should be constantly upgradig and looking for new gear like a Diablo-like? In DS I liked that Poise and weight aside the actual resistances didn't vary hugely so you were free to fashion souls, but is that not the case in BB?

I know you can min-max if you want to, there's optimized stuff but I couldn't honestly tell you how much difference it makes.

The starting set and the doll set have lower stats all-around than everything else, and I felt like I could tell the difference going from the starter set to the hunter set in terms of damage. Dunno how much difference actually min-maxing makes, but I didn't really notice any.

In general, wear what you like, unless what you like is the starter set or doll set, and don't be naked, there's no weight or equip burden, so there's no point.

I dunno if the opinion has changed since release, but I believe the consensus here was that raw defence didn't seem to make as much difference as in Dark Souls, and that resistances seemed to make more difference compared to straight defence. Generally speaking I think people just went full Fashionborne, I know I did :P

Yeah, wear what looks cool 90% of the time, and the stuff that gives you the elemental resistances you want the other 10%.

I mean, you can dodge most things except poison on the ground. And Frenzy vision.

So, you can be naked if you wanna be, sure.

For best results, though, wear clothes. Of some kind.

...Am I right that the starting "Foreign" set and the plain doll set have the worst stats numerically though? I thought they did.

I think so? There’s like a partial set of villager clothes or something too, with I think really low stats (but sort of ok fire resistance).

Yeah, I remember the ones. I can't remember if it's in the name or the flavour text, but they're mentioned as being 'sweaty' and that's where the fire resistance comes from.

As for the starting clothes and doll's set, we could just check, but I can't be bothered, and I think you're probably right that they have poor stats. Wouldn't be surprise if the latter set has high resistance to Arcane or Frenzy or something though.

Nope. It’s pretty much outclassed by everything.

EDIT: It actually is outclassed by everything. It has the lowest stat total of all clothing sets in the game, including the starting clothes.

Maybe and not really.

I thought the game was very nice and complete and that should be that.

I want From Software to keep making horror-themed games that are not connected to each other beyond general aesthetic and calling them “Bloodborne.”

I think if we were going to get a sequel, it would have been announced last year. There were three years between Dark Souls and it’s sequel. Four years with no announcement doesn’t look promising.

I just want more From Software games. I'm sure Shadows Die Twice is going to be rad. Though, yes, they do really seem to be great at horror settings.

There has been some speculation after a recent VR game came out from From Software with some Bloodborne references.

People are theorizing that if Bloodborne does get a new game that it'll probably be Aztec themed
