The next episode is going to be the Kagerou Days song, oh man, things are about to take a dark turn.
Episode 4. In which there are awakenings.
Yeah, I wonder who she was, and how much he'd need turn around to see it.
Such an audience. It's always interesting how different anime treat people monologuing about random stuff that doesn't make sense outside their head.
Obvious reaction is obvious. But that's one obnoxious girl.
I think it was a good thing he met Momo instead of Hiyori.
Multiplying dogs, buy one, get another one for free! And another one! And another one! And...
Those weird playgrounds. Typical Shaft architecture.
At first I wasn't sure if it was a dream or a "Groundhog Day" Loop, but the latter seems more true. Either way it's trippy, so it's hard to tell.
So different she looks while asleep on the train...
The monster story took a cute turn.
Check out my fanfiction!I wonder if the dog thing was also a time loop. Like, he used his powers to reset reset the conversation until he got approval.
Yeah, Hiyori is kind of a brat. I've never understood why some people are such gung-ho Hiyori/Hibiya shippers.
As for the episode, wow, Shaft is so very Shaft-y. Liked the use of the Kagerou Days song. Also, I was seriously wondering what the hell was up with that cat. Symbolism maybe. It might have been standing in for the weird Dark!Hibiya character from the original PV.
Also, to any anime-first time people who are interested, here's a link to the original PV and to the NicoNico Chorus version which is freaking epic. Beware spoilers if you haven't seen the current episode though.

Hibiya reminds me of a certain Madoka character...

Ooh, that was good
Shorts boy has dubious taste, though
Fans are arguing over weather the Episode was worse than the MV.
I gotta say, the MV has much more 'oomph' to the twist.
hiWhat twist? I don't remember the episode having a twist. Maybe I should watch the PV to compare.
That Kagerou Days PV isn't official, it was created by a fan that later became an Ascended Fanboy. Some of the details there may not be canon such as the Dark!Hibiya. But yeah, the song handled the issue better I'd say, I liked the surreal adaptation they did though.
Wait . . . the PV isn't canon/official?
Well, that explains why Hiyori looks so different in it, I guess. Gosh, Kagerou project is a weird fandom.
Yeah, that's another difference between the canon and the PV. This is the original video
I know that some people are complaining about how nothing happens to progress the plot in the majority of the episode, and that they decided to cram the story from the song into the last few minutes.
Hiyori just looked like she had an intense urge to commit suicide in the second half and kept trying to get away from Hibiya to run into places where she knew she'd die.
And the switch between the first half and the second was far too abrupt. You want that first half to be a dream/flashback to happier times, make that clear. Don't just suddenly cut to Hibiya waking up on his bed saying he has to go somewhere.
I think even I could write that better.

Wait it was a flashback? Oh goddangit Shinbo!
Doesn't make sense for it to be a flashback. It incorporates events from episode 2 (meeting Kisaragi). Unless there was a major timeskip between episodes 3 and 4 or something. My impression is that he had a normal day and then the next day he found himself stuck in a timeloop. We see the first few iterations and then jump forward to a much later one (represented by the number of crows on the sign). Since a timeloop is by nature timeless, it doesn't really make sense to say that what happened in the past was a flashback.
& That's how it seemed to me. Maybe he was going for something else, I have no idea, but with how abrupt it was and Hibiya suddenly waking up on his bed it seemed like it was a dream, a flashback to before they got trapped in the loop.

Count the crows. It made perfect sense to me. Dreamlike, sure, but sensical.
Also, they didn't just go to sleep and suddenly find themselves trapped in the loop.
Hibiya and Hiyori were out on 15th August and both got run over by a truck. And it just so happens they met the conditions to get sucked into the time loop.
That wasn't explained in the music video either, so I'm not sure why you'd expect it from the anime.
Episode 4. In which Shinbou drops acid at exactly 13:43.
When everything looks like a dream, it's hard to tell what is supposed to be and what isn't.
Episode 4:
- Hibiya impressed Hiyori, alright. Just not in the way he had hoped.
- Konoha's quite spacey. And he took Hibiya's tea, as well.
- Every failure leads to more dogs appearing. ...Time paradogs?
- 1st half: Hibiya being a Butt-Monkey. 2nd half: A dream within a dream within a dream within a time loop featuring the many deaths of Hiyori, the taking the blow kind of solution, time paracrows, and an evil, very douchey time paracat, on August 15th at 12:30 p.m. So...Shaft-y, I couldn't tell what was real anymore!
So, they are gonna meet the rest of the Mekaku gang, right?

I hope so, because I'm totally lost on how they're going to fill out 8 more episodes.
I think Episode 5 will go back to the Mekakushi Dan and the sixth will conclude the time loop with Hiyori and Hibiya and then Episode 7 will have Hibiya and Momo meet again and follow the Otsukimi Recital song. Then maybe it'll conclude with the Yuukei Yesterday/Headphone Actor arc.
I think I know where the anime will end and I guess if anything it opens room for a second season pretty well.
The hugging of small and cute stuff?
