People die every day. Some of them are famous, some important, many newsworthy. This thread is for announcements of deaths in the news, discussions of the legacy of those recently deceased people, and memorials of same.
Please observe the usual rules about posting ettiquette and note that this is in On-Topic Conversations.
To start with, the last of the original Von Trapp Singers has died, Maria Von Trapp, 99, in Vermont. (This is the daughter of Captain Von Trapp, not her stepmother who was also named Maria. In the musical, they called her Louisa.) http://news.yahoo.com/maria-von-trapp-99-dies-vermont-005546425.html
2023 mod note:
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.
This doesn't mean that you can't discuss their life or legacy, or express an opinion as to whether they escaped justice for their actions. But if that starts to become a longer conversation, there are other OTC threads that may be more appropriate.

Professional Cyclist Bjorg Lambrecht has passed away today at the age of 22, during a stage of Tour de Pologne. RIP.
Toni Morrison, author of Beloved, Nobel laureate, and one of the greatest novelists of our lifetimes, passed away at the age of 88.
Yesterday, it was publicly announced that Yu Shimaka, the Japanese voice of Goofy, died at age 70.
He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.God, rest that woman's soul.
Animator Richard Williams passed at 86.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Gah...did he ever get to see that Recobbled Cut of The Thief and the Cobbler?
And on that note, is there any way to see it officially? I feel like that needs attention now more than ever...
EDIT: Never mind, I don't think he ever saw that Recobbled Cut. This is a dark day for animation...

F.
ááááááá|I DO COMMISSIONS|áááááááDavid Koch just died. He was an American right-wing political activist and donor along with his surviving brother, Charles.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."And nothing of value was lost.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. As much as I might agree, this is the "rest in peace" thread, we should try to keep that rhetoric limited to a minimum.
Life is unfair...Some people do not deserve to rest in peace. That's all I'm going to say on the matter.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Sod that.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."We should respect people who deserve respect, living or dead. He did not, and does not, deserve respect.
Who are the ones that we kept in charge? Killers, thieves, and lawyers. God's away, god's away, god's away on business... business.Rules are not to celebrate anyone's death no matter how heinous. Nobody said we had to praise them though.
Usually gravedancing warnings aren't so close to literal...
Please don't use the RIP thread for non-restful/non-peaceful sentiments. If you feel a person deserves neither, this is not the venue for that.
Strangely Koch hasn't been listed on the Wikipedia front page, but has been in the recent deaths page.
I think itâs worth this thread not being used to post about controversial deaths, I donât believe Epsteinâs death was posted here and I think thatâs a good precedent to follow.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranI didnât think Koch was that controversial a death tbh. Just a famous one. Epsteinâs is on another level to Koch imo
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."The discussion got so out of hand that we had to create a whole other thread for it.

Disgusted, but not surprisedThe Koch brothers are amongst the biggest individual blockers of action against climate change on the planet, considering the expected increased death toll and generational harm due to delayed action on climate change this entirely possible that the Koch brothers have caused more harm and suffering to children then Epstein could have ever hoped to.
They may well be up there with Columbus for how they will be regarded by historians looking at mass human suffering.
Honestly anyone who is credited as being on a particular political side probably shouldnât be posted here.
Koch is at a minimum up there with John Mc Cain and Fidel Castro when it comes to controversial deaths, Iâm not sure such deaths belong here.

"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranIdeally, we should simply post such deaths and adhere to the rule of "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."
I despise hypocrisy, unless of course it is my own.
