[up][up]Yeah, it's just easier to move on.

Would it be possible to have a Keyblade user to make Keyblades from personal objects that their friends have sent them?

I was going to have the SI give her a temple charm and said Keyblade user's boyfriend get something (don't know what yet) and see if she could make a Keychain that she could use on her Keyblade.

You gotta start somewhere.

Jane says Tarzan wants to give you something when you get Jungle King and the Oathkeeper is just Kairi's Wayfinder. A few keychains in BBS are also Wayfinders. Brightcrest and. I think the Ultimas in BBS.

...My Hot Take is that anything can be a keychain, but it might not be any good as one.

We're told in interviews that the Master of Masters made keyblades, and it's also said keyblades are artificial, but the only times we're shown making a keyblade/keychain deliberately are the Moogle O' Glory quests in X and UX. And synthesizing Ultima in 1, 2 and 3.

The original Moogle O' Glory keyblade the Moogle makes out of wood and spare parts sucks, and is rickety and wooden and worthless, and they get into trouble, but they put a lot of effort in, their heart and soul went into making and crafting that shitty-was blade, and while being rescued from Heartless they form a sort of bond with the Player Character, and as a result the actual Moogle O' Glory keychain the Player gets is actually decent. Moreso than the original.

My interpretation/opinion is that if you just stuck, like, a random paperclip, for example, on the end then, yeah, it'd work, but more like the original shitty version of the keyblade.

Yeah, I was either going to have it:

A: Not work at all.

or

B: Be a worse version of what they started with, yes.

And I'll have the SI come to the conclusion that since the Keyblade user is channeling the bond of the person that gave them that object, that object they'll be giving needs to mean something to them as well. Which means, that it'll be one of the few things that they can't munchkin. I think.

Also, I was going to have the SI and his friends sell novelizations of our world's history for money. Dunno if I want to be successful but ehh.

The problem with selling novelizations of history is that history does not have the greatest record at maintaining narrative plausibility, so you'll probably end up having to fudge some bits and then it ends up being hard to distinguish from creating a novel from scratch. Which is generally not a reliable way to make money.

On the other hand, if the SI happened to bring some books with them, then the hard work's already done and they just have to get it out there.

Well, I really think a crossover with The Incredibles would be cool.

Funny you mention that. I had an Incredibles world in the latest Antipode fic that was a lot of fun to put together. Even had some lore bits like the Keyblade Armor Terra, Aqua, and Ven wore being designed by Edna Mode and Terra and Aqua once having a training mission in their world, where they met Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl.

I really gotta get Act 3 up and running, but somehow I wound up re-editing 20+ chapters of the previous fic instead? Haha. It's been pretty cathartic, though.

Gonna upload the re-edits once I have the whole lot done to keep things consistent.

Is it okay for the main characters (the canon ones) to be demoted to extra when the new characters that are being focused on aren't nowhere near as important?

Because I was going to limit the canon characters to cameos and mentions from other characters in the beginning.

[up][up]Dude, you're writing fanfiction. There are only arguably rules about what is and is not okay, and if there are they're a long, long way away from "you must focus on the same characters as canon."

Finally back to working on Chains of Waves.

My anger and hatred over KH3's disgusting levels of misogyny aside, I funnily enough probably wouldn't have to change a lot even if I wanted to do a more straightforward rewrite of it?

Which, I was never going to, honestly, what with my plans to fuck DDD.

But, like, lore-wise and metaphysics-wise I think I was actually pretty shockingly on the munny. For once. My understanding of how Kingdom Hearts works is fairly legit-ish.

...God that's honestly something to be embarassed about, fuck me and my life.

I still didn't guess the Epilogue, but I don't have to change anything I was going to do with the epilogue characters, and I honestly think some things I already planned to do actually work better now?? So that's surprising. Even to me.

I'm still ridonkulously proud of Day 12.8: First Breaths and Fragmentary Passages to be honest.

The only thing I might change in it is I would throw in a reference to Ephemera in there, because that was maybe one of my favorite parts of the ending.

...The ending in general sorta goes progressively downhill for me after a strong start, and, even my favorite part is tainted by how it connects to my most hated part.

But anyway. In general, I think some of my plans and intentions for the Master of Masters were really on-point. And I'm honestly really proud.

...I might not buy a Kingdom Hearts game again because of it, and hope noone else ever does again, but if I ignore the parts I despise it does encourage me to keep moving forward, and the bad parts do too, but just in the form of rage.

For the outline of my current plans.

Sora still has the Monstro World Card, because I sorta skipped a floor, and I have him and Kairi fighting a bit and they use two cards at once and they fuse two floors and Monstro and Atlantica into one big floor.

Also Repliku's there.

I also had Larxene give Donald and Goofy world cards, and. I sorta want to do a Ducktales world in Chain for the hell of it.

But I 100% am doing a Castle Oblivion world based on/from An Extremely Goofy movie because I want Sora and Kairi, before they lose their memories, to be traumatized by the knowledge that Goofy Fucks.

...I really didn't want to do Neverland.

The last world card is Sora's and. If I don't go with Ducktales it would make my references to Della and having the Nephews and Webby in Traverse Town kinda suck. But I could still use Donald's from Larxene as one of the worlds from the game.

And, I'm not sure if I want to do Hollow Bastion or not. It has the most interesting original world plot, and. Part of me wanted to do a thing and have the memory Maleficent transfer from Riku's story to Sora's there, and for our heroes to kill her again.

I don't know why, but for some reason I thought it'd be funny. It's in my notes as funny, but I didn't say what was funny about it?

I guess her finally being free from Riku only for Sora to do her in again is a little ironic, but.

...But I also legitimately wanted to do 100 Acre Wood? But with everyone?

...A thing I had been planning on doing for a while is having Zexion sorta kidnap Kairi when Vexen shows up, which, in light of KH3 and the series in general's issues is, maybe my worst decision, and I hate it and myself and I keep glaring at my outlines. Trying to force them to change.

But I want/need to get Kairi into the Reverse/Rebirth half, for her to double team Riku with Zexion (as Sora) and then Zexion with Riku (As Himself).

And I think Naminé as Kairi saving Riku from the real Kairi is fun to do.

And I wanted Naminé to join Sora, Donald and Goofy's crew, for as far as that goes.

...Not that women are interchangeable, but, Kairi and Naminé sorta are? Ish? To a point? I'd be saying the same thing about Sora and Roxas and Xion, or all the Xehanorts.

...I also sorta am planning on having Naminé just sorta stick around when Sora Donald and Goofy wake up for II. Naminé explaining the entire plot. And then she joins the party there too, while Kairi and Riku go be broody antiheroes in the background.

So far my only big stopping point is Land of Dragons. Which. Hmm. Colonialism and imperialism aside aside (Naminé is probably the Whitest member of the cast, albeit literally and not quite necessarily racially.) she. Doesn't strike me as someone all that inclined to challenge status quos?

...I've also started to ship Naminé/Xion pretty heavily, and sorta wanted to do something with "A Girl Worth Fighting For" but that's a whole other thing.

I mean, honestly Naminé could just keep her hood up probably, and not talk.

...I like Mulan a lot, it's not perfect, but nothing is, and I sorta just want to do it.

I'm planning on changing a lot in KHII, and Days, so, it might not be possible for me to do and that'd make me sad, so, I dunno yet, the further out it is the less certain things are.

Goofy Fucks is definitely a thing though. 110%.

I'm a shitty memer.

You’re certainly making quite a few additions, but they all sound like good additions, so I’m definitely in favor.

Do you have a detailed Days plan yet?

Oh God! Natural light!
unnoun Since: Jan, 2012
#2188: Feb 5th 2019 at 5:23:15 PM

Honestly, one of my biggest additions is in the last chapter from last year, when Naminé accidentally Norted Larxene and then herself.

Also, fuck no.

Kairi wakes up on Day 118, partly because Naminé hasn't been sleeping and has been ruining herself and because she uses her entire vacation day on it.

That's been set in stone for a while.

...Part of why I wanted to move Kairi into Reverse/Rebirth is for Kairi to hear Riku say "you and Kairi smell the same".

Making fun of weird and silly parts of KH.

...I want Naminé to turn on the Organization in a big dramatic way, with Last Midnight from Into The Woods, and curbstomping all of them.

Naminé with a keyblade, and friends with Xemnas/becoming Half-Xehanort (Naminort?) is just. Too strong.

...I sorta do plan on Xemnas partly dusking her, but I haven't decided. Which part. Arm? Leg? I dunno. Zipper mouth?

Part of my problem is also when I want this to happen. And how to fit it in with the Roxas and Xion and Axel plots.

And.

...One thing I'm certain on is.

Like, first, Naminé's powers only applying to people connected to Sora is sorta a retcon, because it first gets brought up in II, not COM.

Second, like. Who the fuck is Sora? It's not just that one boy from Destiny Islands anymore.

Kairi and Ven's hearts have both been in Sora's, and in turn, from that were born Roxas and Naminé, with Xion and Vanitas also being influenced.

So, aside from Sora prime, that's, like. 6 others.

Vanitas is norted, so that's one connection to Xehanort there, but.

I had Naminé spend time with Xemnas and be. I wouldn't even say friends, but. There's a relationship there. Not necessarily a good one, but.

And even in the games she links with Terra.

Xemnas's already given her Terra's Wayfinder, and she's hooked that onto Stormfall to. Well, basically make another Brightcrest, but Aqua's is blue, hers is brown and orange and red and gold, like Sora and Kairi and her own hair colors. And orange. Which, none of them have.

And, Naminé's powers definitely work on Jiminy's Journal, because it's about Sora, which the Book of Prophecies also is, in part, which gives her an in with the Master of Masters.

...Now, this all might seem like too much power, but, A, Naminé deserves it, and B, like. She already Norted herself, so I wouldn't say it's 100% a good thing. It's not good for her, or necessarily anyone.

...God, I had a scene written out where her eyes go from Nort gold to Gazing Eye blue and slitted-pupil and I loved it.

Especially since, as I wrote it, she was with Xigbar, and she really freaked him the fuck out with it, and. That wasn't intentional, and the dialogue with him and his reaction in my original version isn't even remotely spoilers because I didn't know at the time, but man.

If KH3 hated women just a little bit less, then goddamn.

...Oh, anyway.

the biggest drawback of naminé's powers though is that every time she uses them she runs the risk of finding out more about the fact that goofy fucks

...I do have some vague plans on the emotional side of Days, with Roxas starting to get upset about Naminé blowing them off and not joining for ice cream as much anymore.

Axel has a weird feeling that she's already betraying them but he decides he doesn't want anything to do with that noise, not even because she's his friend but because she ends up fucking terrifying him in Castle Oblivion and he doesn't want to deal with that again.

Naminé and Xion don't really know each other yet, or, well, Naminé knows Xion as a blank replica and already likes her but Xion's actual. Personality and consciousness didn't exist yet.

...Her gender identity did, though, for LGBTQ+ reasons. Being "born" trans and "always" being trans aren't the only trans narratives out there, but they are ones.

And the idea that even the seemingly and supposedly "blank" replica already had that sense of self, just from being activated is. I dunno.

But I do know that I've written Naminé as knowing and respecting it right away, from day one.

Well, Day 7, actually, but. Eh.

...Part of me wants the Naminé leaving bit to be after Xion absorbs Roxas's power and leaves him half-leveled, and for them to fight and Roxas to win, where Xemnas, Xigbar, Xaldin, Zexion, Saïx, Axel, Demyx, Luxord and Larxene at once all lost.

I sorta like Roxas as the strongest Organization member even when he's half dead.

...But then if he beat her and dragged her home, I'd have to write her leaving again. And I dunno how to do that believably. Hmm.

A little bit ago I considered the Gazing Eye showing her a vision of him wiping the floor with her, even if she smashed his heart, he'd just head back to the castle with her in tow as Zombie!Roxas. Not know anyone's name.

Then after that vision she decides she has better things to do than fight her best friend/twin, and bolts.

My main problem is the Gazing Eye doesn't work that way, the Master sees what will happen. Not what may.

...I say Screw Destiny, and in my version the Master's vision has already been derailed by Kairi and Naminé, but. Eh.

...On some level, while Xemnas and Naminé both have issues with memories and memory loss, they don't really know how to function as a completely blank slate, and Roxas does.

Like, we're told that on Roxas's first day, when he got his name, he and Axel ate ice cream and watched the sunset. And Axel, in Days, on Day 8, says Roxas said the same thing about sea-salt ice cream the first time they had it there.

But that's a weird thing for Roxas to do on Day One when Xemnas found and named him.

Whatever you say about the novels, they're actually well-written in their own right, if a bit melodramatic (which, gasp, this series) and, in the KHII novels, Kanemaki, who supervised Nomura on Days, and who wrote a lot of scenes for the 2 novels that Nomura liked enough to get into KHIIFM, she already wrote Roxas as a zombie because he had no memories, and she also had Roxas tell Xemnas "no". To his initial offer, after the naming.

And so Xemnas had to do a mad scramble and grab Axel to bribe Roxas, because a brain dead teen told Xemnas to fuck off.

If Axel and Roxas had ice cream that first day, like in the novel, I'm assuming that part happened to, because I love it.

Even memory-less and heartless, Roxas has the strength of will to get Xemnas to back off and back down, and has more personality than Xemnas ever does to boot.

In her own way, I picture Naminé's powers as not unlike Xemnas's Dusking, because it's said that only Organization members retain their original life memories, which presumably would mean being Dusked would make you lose that.

The memories aren't destroyed, because we're told nothing in KH can do that, but. You can't reach the memories either.

And on Roxas. That's just not a viable threat.

the only true way to permanently defeat roxas is for him to know that Goofy f u c k s

I will say that I understand your trepidation in regards to having Kairi kidnapped, though depending on how it comes about, I don't think you need to be too concerned, especially since I do think bringing her into Reverse/Rebirth is a good idea. How did you envision her being roped into, exactly? Does Zexion outright abduct her, deceive her with illusions, or some combination of the two?

I will say that Roxas sounds bit a OP in the bit you mentioned where he's sick? I do like you're idea for Namine realizing that even if she shatters his heart, he'll still bring her back, though.

And I'm very curious as to how the "Goofy fucks" revelation will come about.

I think I missed the part about Namine getting Norted - sorry if I've asked this before (I don't *think* I have), but how does this affect her, like in regards to her sense of self and such?

Oh God! Natural light!

I mean, as long as Kairi still gets some agency as a character, kidnapping isn't inherently flawed. It's how you execute it, I'd say.

Doesn't take much to be better than KH 3. :P

I also think the idea of nods to Extremely Goofy Movie and Ducktales could be a lot of fun! I personally love adding little nods to various to various Disney works in my own fics, which is why I had Disney Town full of people like Max, PJ, Ludwig von Drake, Mortimer Mouse, etc. ...and Riku Replica totally bonded with Max and PJ due to the shared struggles of escaping someone else's shadow.

Namine sticking around sounds great, tbh. I never really understood why KH 2 had to sideline her so much. Or hell, have her merge in the first place? Not like Kairi was incomplete like Sora was. =_=

Meanwhile, I'm super hyped for my plans for Antipode's Arendelle and Treasure Planet worlds. In terms of TP, right now...

- All the heroes have crash landed. Amelia is fine because she got Curaga'd, but Riku stormed off because he's still being tracked by the Org via the sigil scar he got and doesn't want Xigbar and the pirates to find his pals. - Xigbar + pirates are actually gonna FIND the map hidden in the rope, derailing things. They're also like, "Kiddo thinks he can throw us off their trail? Heh. We'll just use his Keyblade to open the map." - Kairi/Donald/Goofy are trying to keep watch on Riku from the air (Gummi Ship is cloaked), buuuuut... he keeps using corridors to pop around and try and throw off the baddies more. - Sora and Jim are out trying to scout the area for shelter.

So what I need to figure out for this particular world is...

- What do I even do with BEN? Who finds him if I do anything with him? Sora and Jim? Kairi/Donald/Goofy? I could always have Kairi and co. just spot Sora and decide to go with him in lieu of Riku being a stubborn, evasive blockhead. There's also the option of Kairi and co. touching base with Amelia and Dr. Doppler.

- Ultimately, Xigbar + pirates are gonna overwhelm Riku and force him to use his Keyblade on the map. I was thinking I'd have everyone else see that it's activated from afar and converge? Since K/D/G have a Gummi Ship and Sora can use corridors due to his Heartless status, catching up wouldn't be hard.

- Maybe while this is going on, Silver tries to meet with Jim? Or I guess I can have their next big moment on Treasure Planet itself.

Though my plans for the planet ITSELF are that Flint's remains have actually manifested as a Heartless, so there's gonna be this big battle on the exploding core of the planet with lots of daaaarkness and Xigbar's spatial manipulation making things hellish. Sora's gonna get captured because Xemnas has wants Ven up and kicking again (especially since Antipode Xemnas is Terra.

But I think my favorite part is that Amelia/Jim/Silver/Doppler are all gonna crash land in Arendelle with the heroes instead of the Space Port (thanks, Xigbar).

Arendelle I actually have mostly figured out, and it's very much a case of "let's derail Frozen!"

Changes include...

- Hans is a Nobody, with his element being glass/mirror-based tomfoolery. The glass operates like the mirror shards in the fairy tale, amplifying the negative feelings/perception.

- The TP characters are around. Silver actually storms off during the blizzard and Riku tries to chase after him (Silver ultimately gets away and won't be seen for a while), and ends up meeting Elsa and trying to bond with her since, whoa, relatable. I... need to figure out how difficult this will be, because Elsa is VERY guarded, Riku is a stranger... but he's gonna show off some of his own ice spells, which should at least get her attention.

- Meanwhile, Donald's gotta send a distress signal from the crashed Highwind. Both it and the Legacy are in awful shape. Kairi scouts ahead on her Glider, encounters a ~mysterious Nobody~ with glass powers and has a close call before she makes it to Arendelle, where she meets and befriends Hans. What a kind fellow, sending a rescue party to help her friends stranded out in the snow! ;)

- Ultimately, Hans is gonna go with Donald and Goofy to search for Anna while Kairi uses her Glider to scout ahead. Jim/Doppler/Amelia stick around Arendelle to keep an eye out for Hans' very shady "vizier", "Dilan".

- Kairi WILL meet Anna and Kristoff... but I have no idea how to handle Olaf's role in this. But I feel like omitting him would bum people out. Bluh. But I think Kairi will have an interesting perspective on the marriage thing because, on one hand, yeah! Hans is really nice! But... girl, you just met him, and love is complicated and you can't rush it.

- But since Kairi sends out a signal Flare, Hans WILL meet up with Anna, so there will be a MUCH bigger group at Elsa's castle, and I think even if Riku does break through, all these people, including and ESPECIALLY Hans, is gonna set Elsa off big time. Especially with the whole fjord being frozen over...

And Hans will totally take advantage of the situation by hitting Elsa with some of dat glass, making her negativity go OUT OF CONTROL. Darknessy and stuff. The heroes have to subdue her, Hans has her imprisoned and tries to expedite his and Anna's wedding due to the "possibility" that Elsa may never recover.

But there are leftover glass shards amidst the ice. Kristoff sees this and is like "Hmmmm..."

Anna's heart doesn't get frozen because she has all these magic-wielding heroes to save her, but I'm planning to show the sisterly love through Anna being the only one who can, ultimately, break through to Elsa. But Riku's gonna try to use his Keyblade and free her, and uh.

Boy oh boy. Keyblade wielder with his heart ice'd.

Climaxwise, it'll be nuts 'cause Kairi/Jim/Amelia will be dealing with Xaldin while Riku weakens against the berserk Elsa who's now free and TOTALLY going nuts with her winter powers. Kristoff gets to be a Big Damn Hero and expose Hans at the altar by showing the glass shards and the troll Elder expressing that it's wicked magic and Hans feels like he has no heart...

And I can kinda see it spilling into this mess of a fight with Xaldin, Hans (Nahxs), and berserk!Elsa all overlapping into each other. Anna has to pull through for Elsa, Kairi and Riku FINALLY have to stop beating around the bush with their feelings, and when Anna does break through to Elsa, I can totally see her just. Making an army of Marshmallows, or at least a couple of 'em. :P

I just... have no idea where to fit Olaf into this? But I feel like his omission would be more noticeable than BEN's.

Well, for starters, I was intending on Zexion nabbing Kairi, and the moment they're in the basement she hits him, and then she has to fight him and Lexaeus at once.

...Seriously, I don't get the Standard Female Grab Area thing.

Fuck you KH3.

...I really don't want to write it now but it's been in all my drafts for ages, years, even, and. I want/need to get Kairi into Reverse/Rebirth.

...Anyway, when I'm writing the fight then I start playing RULES OF NATURE!

But eventually they beat her and knock her out, and then illusion stuff happens.

...I'm less pumped about writing it out now than I was. Not even Kairi suplexing Lexaeus onto/into Zexion is worth it.

Anyway, meanwhile Lexaeus thinks "that was way too hard a fight, this is a bad idea" so he fights Riku.

And I'm very curious as to how the "Goofy fucks" revelation will come about.

...Okay, admitting this is the most embarrassing thing, and I will now safeguard my identity even more closely, but.

...There's a handful of frames in the dance scene of An Extremely Goofy Movie where I think Goofy is actually sexually attractive.

It's cursed and I hate it but it's true.

The bad part isn't that Goofy has had sex.

The bad part is that Goofy is actually hot. And actually legitimately has game.

The Organization is watching it and they're all horrified, even Larxene, and it was her idea to give that world card, because it's actually worse and more traumatic than she expected.

I think I missed the part about Namine getting Norted - sorry if I've asked this before (I don't *think* I have), but how does this affect her, like in regards to her sense of self and such?

That's a fair question, and my answer for now is I have no fucking idea.

I mean, like, I'm not entirely sure how the fuck it works for Xigbar or any of them.

I mean, I liked the bit where Saïx explains it? "With time, I awakened to a new purpose" because of his jealousy and abandonment.

...That's in a trailer, so.

In DDD they try to break Sora's heart with hurt, and sink him to sleep in the darkness, and in BBS Xehanort says "let your whole heart blacken with anger" and "it is your darkness that shall be the ask that sustains me" so like.

I'm sorta almost treating it like steroids? At first, anyway. For phase 1, it needs darkness to feed and grow.

Naminé is more aware of it than some, just because of her powers.

Larxenort in this is one of my favorite things because she just progressively gets worse, because she lacks the self-awareness to notice that she's angrier than usual, so she just, indulges in it and embraces it, not knowing and probably not caring that she's losing herself more and more.

...I also sorta treat it a bit like, I dunno, cancer?

Like, Naminé fights Riku and Kairi just to get Kairi to stab her with the Keyblade of Heart, and at first Naminé thinks that did it, but then it comes back.

EDIT: ...If there's one thing I sorta want thanks to 3, it's for Vanitas to start calling Xion, Naminé and Kairi "sister".

According to 3, Vanitas didn't actually die after BBS so that's sure a thing.

...Also thanks to 3, I want Vanitas and Randall to hang out, and for Vanitas to traumatize and freak him out by faking a southern/Florida accent and slang.

...So, I just realized I might have to get Kairi kidnapped again for DDD, so Naminé can be the twelfth Seeker of Darkness and get a swanky new Replica body out of Xehanort's pocket after fusing with Kairi and I think I hate myself?

Like, a lot actually?

Like, I'm staring at my notes, and, like. Fuck.

It's Like, for Years of this fucking fic AU existing in in my head, as in, before I started Tempestuous Journey in 2016, every single fucking plot point at the DDD-era has circled around that kidnapping being a thing but I never thought about it or wrote it down explicitly??

Did. Did I take it for granted?? Was I that shitty?!?

And now I'm just like. Why, me. Why are you the second-worst KH writer in the world.

...I mean, I can still settle for second in that category, honestly, but. Ugh.

...Even if she doesn't get straight-up literally kidnapped it'd still be a violent, invasisive, traumatic, literally heartrending experience that, I'm not sure I want to write now??

...But. But I already had DDD scenes with Naminé as a Nort that I've had mostly written for years and I can't part with them because they're some of my best, most favorite shit and.

Uuugggghhhh

Namine sticking around sounds great, tbh. I never really understood why KH 2 had to sideline her so much. Or hell, have her merge in the first place? Not like Kairi was incomplete like Sora was. =_=

I mean, the fact that they could even merge like that in the first place means that apparently she was??

Like, it's not like people can go around just absorbing Xaldin or whatever whenever they feel like it.

...Also I'm not entirely sure it's possible for Naminé to not want to die?

She needs, like, a therapist and Prozac. Or Zoloft or. I dunno.

...Naminé would be either the best or the worst at art therapy and I honestly do not know which it is.

...Fuck, let me just.

How many Norts do I have.

Ansem, Xemnas, Young Xehanort and Terranort.

I. Wasn't planning. On old Master Xehanort. And, his voice was lackluster and I'm annoyed with his motivation and redemption in 3 so, I honestly think I made the right call there?

The bit with him and Eraqus was good but he could have been already dead for it. I got annoyed by it because of the living characters watching and reacting to it more than anything.

Vanitas makes five.

...I liked Vanitas in 3, and I loved his Redemption Rejection scene.

But, equally, he's a child and should not be allowed to have the right to make that decision.

...I hate Lauriam in UX more than a little, and I hate writing Marluxia because he's boring just in terms of personality.

They didnt do anything neat with him in Tangled, and I do not care enough to.

My initial stance that I think is vindicated by 3 in various ways (some of them things 3 did, some of them things it didn't do and should have, and some of them wouldn't fit in 3 but do for my AU)

Larxene
Luxord
Xaldin
Xigbar
Zexion
Saïx
Naminé
Xion
...Plus the 5 from earlier is 13? I think? Maybe?

Fair point. It just kinda confused me in that her merging isn't really explained? Heck, it seems to happen offscreen. Whereas with Roxas there's an in-universe justification for it- he had to merge for Sora to wake up.

Curious about your beef with Lauriam, too, tbh. Not that I'm judging ya. Just intrigued 'cause most of the people I've talked to have really enjoyed the recent reveals about him in the JP KH-X updates (and I admittedly have, too.)

Honestly, I need to figure out what I'm gonna do with the baddy brigade in light of Antipode... literally only having two norts at the present. Saix and Xigbar. Well, and there's Youngnort.

But there likely won't be much norting otherwise, since again, Xemnas is actually Terra, he has zero interest in making more norts... and by the end of the current fic, the baddies are gonna be a bit screwed as a result.

Never mind that I may end up going for a power vacuum/status quo changing ending due to Xemnas' overall fate. OG!Nort might not be able to reform.

So I was thinking what I might do is have Xiggles or YX take charge as the next arc's primary antagonist. Maybe they get some alliances with other various characters like Kuja, Kaiser Oblivion, mayhaps a few Disney bads thrown in, too? I think it'd make an... interesting rogue's gallery if it was a blend of KH originals, Disney, and Square folk.

I mean.

The thing with the reveals is that he still doesn't really have much of a personality, though.

...And, like. As an, abuse victim. I have put, a lot into Naminé, emotionally.

Like, the first time we see her it's as a stuffed doll in a literal bird cage. The symbolism there is a little bit on-the-nose, but.

I dunno.

...Like, I like how, like. Larxene just sorta stays an evil bitch all the way through? And it's interesting how she's able to do it while still frequently being right.

But Marluxia and Lauriam.

I dunno.

On the face of it, I just don't like it. Barring some major thing.

...And I'm still hung up on how much better Arendelle could have been if Strelitzia was Elrena's sister, becauss holy shit.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense! My apologies if my comments came across the wrong way. When I questioned it, it was more in the context of the game and how it just sorta... happened, I guess?

But it DOES make sense that, with all her baggage and experiences that she'd feel that way. Girl's had it rough between Marluxia and Di Z.

Honestly, wrt KH 3 Arendelle, I just feel it was a lot of missed potential. It was mostly just the mountain, no Hans (beyond a brief appearance)... That's why I wanna go big with my take on it. Been discussing more ideas with a friend of mine, and it's been a lot of fun to hash things out.

Only downside is... still not knowing what to do with Olaf. I got tons of ideas for the other characters! And even the Treasure Planet characters who get dragged along for the ride. And then there's Olaf, the marketing face of Frozen and it's just like. "Oh yeah. He's a thing."

And tbh, even AS a Marluxia fan, I do think KH 3 didn't handle him very well. He was just kinda... there? Corona's another world I was disappointed with, though. No Snuggly Duckling. :( All my sadness. I think if I were to ever adapt Tangled, I'd wanna draw from the series a bit and have some cool Cassandra stuff going on. I like Cass.

That reminds me, I need to read Antipode in general sometime. I think I got part of the way through the first fic at one point, and I liked what I saw.

Oh, so as far as recommendations, has anyone mentioned PhoenixDowner’s Those Who Dreamed series? It was all written before 3, but not too much before, and they’re quite well-written.

Now's probably as good a time as any to look into it! I've recently gone through and revised a good 30+ chapters of The Year Between, and last year I finished the re-edits on Fragmented Truths. Both fics had some issues that I wasn't as keen on in hindsight, and I feel the rewrites help fix those problems.

I'm currently working through a chapter to revive the current story, and it's... gonna be a fun one, I think. Aqua and Xemnas interaction's always fun for me. :) There will be "negotiations" afoot and a little namedrop for Nobody!Hans, AKA Nahxs to set up later stuff, too.

I think the part that worries me the most, though, is... well. Antipode is ultimately a gen fic. It is not focused on shipping. HOWEVER, Riku and Kairi are more or less a thing that's developed over the course of the entire series. There's less of a romantic subplot and more that their experiences have just led to feelings being a thing, but.

I've had bad experiences with really adamant So Kai shipping before, so I'm wary that I'll get flak for something that's developed over multiple fics and hundreds of thousands of words. x_x Even when they do hook up, it's not gonna be about the romance. It'll just kinda be a garnish at most.

Just Kairi x Riku is THE most unpopular destiny trio ship, but my thoughts are: there are literally THOUSANDS of multichaptered stories with Sora and Kairi. And I made sure to keep Sora SUPER important to both of them, too.

I'm fine with Riku/Kairi. I have preferences, but I'm pretty low-key about shipping in general. I prefer Sokai, but I'm alright with pretty much any mix of the three (including the OT3 approach) as long as it's handled well, and especially if the shipping isn't front and center. Honestly, with those three, I just like seeing them written together. Also, your premise makes it more plausible, so there's that.

Sorry to hear about your bad experiences with shippers, by the way. I remember you bringing this up before, and...ugh. Guess every ship has its obnoxious diehards.

...I give DDD a lot of shit, honestly, (BECAUSE IT DESERVES IT!!!) but.

I do like how they emphasized that the 'X' wasn't ever a Nobody thing, but an Organization thing.

Which. Was always the case, we saw Roxas getting named by Xemnas, and Naminé was a thing, but.

...Sorry if I'm coming off as, like, a bitch on this?

But. Nobody names and the X is like, my big pet peeve with KH fandom. I just keep going "no, you don't get it and you're doing it wrong, this is an important symbolic thing and you're missing it!!!eleven!" like, a "Stop Having Fun" Guys loser I guess I am.

...Or, it was my biggest pet peeve, until KH3 because. Dammit all. I have seen some shit I cannot unsee.

...I honestly do not know if the Sokai shippers or the Soriku shippers are more misogynistic and that's sad.

on average it's still the soriku shippers, but. The sheer number of Sokai shippers that are okay with the status quo, and how things went down, is.

Ugh.

...Sorikai is still the best/only decent/acceptable/allowed Destiny Trio ship in my book, but just because of how the series treats them, in my book Rikai is the best pairing, at this point.

But I'm basically just a bitter old spite elemental, so what do I know.

Haha, if that was directed at my plans... the character in question will actually be working with the Organization, hence the X-anagram name. Recently brought on board in light of recent casualties (notably Lexaeus).

Xaldin had been working with him for a while and saw potential for a strong ally, so boom. X-name time. His abilities being modeled after the Devil's Mirror from the Snow Queen certainly helps. too. ;) Nice little skillset, that magic glass.

I did also give Riku Replica an X name later, but that was mostly him doing it so he could match Roxas, even though he'd bailed on the Org at that time. He thought it'd be a good way to stick it to 'em, since he's got a lot of spite toward the Org. So boom, stolen naming scheme. Plus the added bonus of Ex-Riku (him having moved on and accepted he ain't the real deal).

And yeah, re: ship stuff, it's just kinda left me bitter, I guess? Like, I know tons of great people who ship So Kai and I'm happy for them! It's just that my own experiences in having the least popular trio ship leave me wary as heck.

OT3 is hella valid, though, and I do like that as well! I just personally found myself more invested in Riku's whole arc in KH 1 and how far he fell in trying to save Kairi, so I've always leaned more towards it outta personal prefs. Sadly, I don't think multichapter Kairi and Riku fics are very common, haha.
