Well, the 4 makeshift graves at the trailer end are pretty foreboding...
It's definitely not going to be a happy game.

i. hear. a. sound.But I don't want the doggie to be sad
So, do we actually know anything about how it plays?
I've read it's a 2D puzzle adventure game, and a preview suspects the characters' separate sections will have pretty different paces (mentioning Emile's section doing rudimentary tasks as a cook for the German camp before trying to escape an attack on the camp while Freddy's gameplay is of navigating a battlefield and doing typical tactical objectives for a battle).
Here's some stuff on gameplay. Seems to be puzzle-solving adventure-style gameplay.
i. hear. a. sound. From the recent news on them, it seems that Ubi are increasing their focus on storytelling and novelty aesthetics. That's a good sign.
It definitely looks like a game that I need to follow up on, doesn't it? The artwork looks great (the engine is UbiArt Framework), the setting sounds intriguing (I don't remember seeing a WWI game that was released by a major publisher before), and the story seems to be filled with potential for excellent (if tragic) drama and Character Development. Overall, it seems like it's going to be a mix of Brothers A Tale Of Two Sons, Romeo And Juliet, and Spec Ops The Line. We'll see whether this game works in 2014, but it sure sounds promising.

i. hear. a. sound.June 25th 2014 why so far away
Goddamnit, France. Stop making me cry.
I noticed they haven't mentioned George after the debut trailer. Either they wrote him out or he's going to be something resembling a Walking Spoiler in story-importance.
I love everything I've learned about this. A war game that isn't about being a gun toting, emotionless badass, or some strategic mastermind. It's about time.
That trailer is very, very well crafted. The poetry is simple, but well done, the music is a single piano playing against the sound of artillery, gunfire, screaming; much like a single soldier, be it Ana, Freddie or Emile, against the war. The voice acting is brilliant aswell, going from exultation and pride as he talks about the MOUNTAIN of wounded, to sorrow at the last line.
They chose a very specific tone and feel for that E3 trailer, and I think they did it extremely well. Much sad. Such tears. So sorrow. Wow.

It's your God, they're your rules, you go to hell." - Mark TwainAnother Developer Diary:
Double post!
Got the game tonight and spent the last four hours on it. Loves it! Though it occasionally devolves into Adventure Game Logic, if I can figure it out while sloshed on wine (my One True Weakness) it can't be that bad.
I stopped when our setting changed to Verdun, because that place can drive me to drink the hard stuff, and with how good the atmosphere in this game is I'd go to work tomorrow with a History Nerd Hangover. "Sorry, boss. I have a headache. A video game caused me to have flashbacks of people having flashbacks. Too many memoirs. ..no, I'm not crazy, I swear!"
i. hear. a. sound.Glad to hear it (uhhhhhhh I mean that in the least dissonant way possible).
I wasn't sure if I wanted this game at first, but a few of my subscribed You Tube channels made me change my mind. I do have to wait until I get home from summer school to buy and play it though, unless it's on Steam xD
Aaaand it's only for PC, not Mac. So I'll have to buy it on Xbox XD

Well, if that wasn't the most brrrrr recreation of Nivelle's Folly I could have ever hoped for. From the moment I realized that was a thing we were going to have to endure I had a feeling how it was going to end, and damn, man.
Time to go cry myself to sleep.

i. hear. a. sound. So on the Let's Play of the game that I"m watching I discovered that a sequence where you have to drive down a road while evading bombs and strafing runs from German biplanes is set to classical music with the bombs and machine guns Mickey Mousing in time to the music XD
Created a trope page here: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Videogame/ValiantHearts Feel free to add whatever you want, i'm just doing a bit more clean up.
Holy crap I'll have to get this game some time later on then. I love tearjerkers, and that era (The World Wars) captures my attention. Those thirty years broke the old world and swept the shattered pieces under the rug.
Made a YMMV page and several edits. I myself also plan on buying this, though it'll have to wait until I'm out of summer school where I have three weeks to do nothing XD
Have to make a topic because this game looks like it's going to hit pretty much all of my buttons.
Have a trailer!
