Remember that lawsuit by Gary Goldman about Disney allegedly stealing his idea for Zootopia?

Well, he just got laughed out of court.

There's a fan comic going viral about Nick and Judy having a domestic argument when she somehow and unexpectedly gets pregnant with their child, and Nick leaves the house. It ends very badly. *_*

Oh is that where this came from?

I was really confused.

No but yeah, that comic sounds terrible.

That comic was depressing, out of character (Nick Wilde using the phrase "premeditated sin?") and so anvilicious that it wrapped back around to the point where I couldn't tell who was actually supposed to be right.

The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."

I mean..... why THIS?? Why did THIS go viral? Then again that's what I ask about anything that goes viral, and I suppose it's a good chance to examine human behavior. I can only guess it's because of

  • the shock value of the subject matter
  • the subject matter is trendy, every news site talks about it a lot
  • the art being REALLY good. It's on-model while using only black and white imagery and pen lines, while not tracing anything from the movie!
  • the unresolved ending. Will Judy go ahead with keeping the baby or not? Because of that, everyone keeps talking about it after they're done reading it!

Mostly it's the edits that made it viral.

Nick Wilde never struck me as being at all religious, much less a religious conservative. On the contrary, he strikes me as a free-living libertine sort of fellow.

According to a comment by the comic's artist on Deviant Art, it's actually not supposed to be a pro-life comic, which is kind of a relief because that comic would have been a pretty dang stupid way to argue for that, since Judy had much better points than Nick did. But that doesn't change how goddamn OOC and overdramatic the whole thing is.

Also the whole thing has odd details that make it look like a Chick Tract.

I think it also causes a stir because it's one of the few Zootopia fan comics that isn't funny!

[up][up] Theatrical? Disney really likes sequels all of a sudden.

Maybe they'll use the collar plot.

I'd hope for something a little more original, yet still relatable to the general themes.

The most realistic continuation I can see is for some subset of predator extremists to start causing trouble, understandably pissed about the whole Night Howler situation and trying to take revenge. Showing the opposite side in the wrong helps to balance out the complexity of this kind of issue.

While I'm glad about a sequel, I was actually hoping more for a spin-off tv show, that way we could explore more of this world.
