I hope the bombing of Philippines Church and the attack in Utrecht got nothing to do with the Christchurch shooting. The circle of stupidity don't need more idiots in it at all.
Although, the sad thing is, regardless of the motives of the perpetrators of the bombing of Philippines Church and the attack in Utrecht, the idiots who keep the circle of stupidity running isn't going to care. All they see here is just casus belli and more justifications to do another stupid shit.

On the way online communities are shaped to facilitate far-right extremism, it's worth remembering that while Facebook has an extremely challenging job in keeping their platform clean, they've also been doing spectacularly badly at it.
The bombing in the Phillipines probably wasn't, if I were to guess. That attack was too big to be a spur-of-the-moment thing, and the tensions between Muslims and Christians in that area are well known. At worst, they moved up their time-table.
Utrecht on the other hand... yeah, probably. Goddammit, and things were already so difficult between white and new Dutch around these parts.
Back when I was working at a supermarket, some of the loveliest people I ever met were Muslims, and it honestly breaks my heart that they will be painted with the same brush as these fools. Just what is going on in the minds of people thinking like that, holding an entire religious group responsible for the actions of a few? Do they really believe that their neighbours are aliens with Blue-and-Orange Morality? Do they honestly believe their "opponents" don't want the same simple comforts of safety, a job, and company as anyone else?
It's funny how it works, really. It's kinda like how O-Chul said it: There's really only two sides to these conflicts: those that want war, and those that do not. Those in the first group, while nominally opposed to each other, are working to that same end.
For the love of everything that is good and holy, do not let them have it.

When it comes to the "great replacement" conspiracies touted by white supremacists around the globe, they can easily accept how "others" want those simple comforts, but insist it comes at the expense of "us."

The nature of white supremacy in my area is that they assume that blacks want to kill them all off and rule the world because that's how they've treated blacks. Evil Cannot Comprehend Good and all that.

Yeah, they assume that all white people secretly think like they do but are too afraid of PC-ness to comment and that minorities want to subjugate or exterminate the majority.

Yeah, when the NZ attack happened, someone in the comments section of another site said basically: "You don't care about these people. Not REALLY."
Like, okay, maybe we didn't know the victims personally but there's such a thing as sympathy. I'm sorry some seem to lack that.

That is a big shock of the Trump election in my area and kind of a decent moment that a lot of the racists came out of the woodwork, celebrating, and believed there was an end to "political correctness."
What they got was anger, fights, and disgust.
The realization that, yes, quite a lot of the people they assumed were just going along with it hated people like them for being racists.
"Angry Liberals" had an effect that trying to be the good guy liberals hadn't.

Projection's pretty much the only way they can keep themselves from being crushed by the realization that no sane person is willing to deal with them in this day and age, and that there's more than enough insane people who are more than willing to turn them inside out if they ever encounter them.
Hence the yap that "we are you, you just don't want to admit it". Nope, they're alone - it's just that the rest of the world moved on a long time ago. And they're not happy with that, so they're willing to slaughter anyone who doesn't agree.

All in all, I'm quite pleased with the way the shooting in Utrecht was reported on, in particular in that the incident may not technically belong in this thread and for once Dutch media have been open to this notion rather than immediately assuming that if a man of Turkish descent commits violent acts he must be a radicalised Muslim.
All signs point to the shooter being a largely irreligious petty criminal and drug abuser whose actions are more likely to be a drug-fueled reaction to his recent divorce and upcoming trial for rape than an act of radical Muslim terrorism.
Angry gets shit done.

While it's good that the mainstream media is being less sensationalist about this attack, the far right will still frame it as more proof of why Turks and Arabs shouldn't be allowed in Europe. The fact that the shooter is so obviously a deadbeat piece of shit is a boon to them; they can point to him and say "See? This is the kind of scum they're bringing over!"

Looks like the German police managed to stop a terror attack before it could even happen again.
Not exactly good news, but after all the depressing stuff I think this is a good opportunity to show that those attackers aren't completely invisible and can be caught before doing any damage.

A North Korean dissident group called Cheollima Civil Defense (aka Free Joseon) was implicated in last month's attack on the DPRK embassy in Madrid. The group was previously responsible for extracting Kim Jong-nam's family from Macau after his assassination, and Spanish investigators are alleging them of working with US intelligence agencies.
Not surprising, Pyongyang has said that the Madrid Embassy raid is an act of terror and they're requesting the Spanish National Police to investigate it ASAP.
In other headlines, Dostum escapes being targeted by the Taliban. Again:
Officials say the attackers ambushed Gen Dostum's convoy in Balkh Province.
The Taliban said they carried out the attack, which lasted an hour and left two other bodyguards injured.
It is the second attempt on Gen Dostum's life since the ethnic Uzbek and former warlord returned from self-imposed exile last July.
That month, 14 people died in a suicide bombing at Kabul airport shortly after his arrival. Islamic state says it carried out that attack.
Gen Dostum joined Afghanistan's unity government in 2014 and is a controversial political figure.
He helped the US oust the Taliban in 2001 but has been blamed for some of the worst atrocities in the country's long-running civil war.
More than a year ago, he left for Turkey after being accused of ordering his men to kidnap and rape a political rival. He has denied the accusations and insists his travel to Turkey was for a medical check-up.
Gen Dostum's reappearance was preceded by unrest in his northern powerbase, as supporters demanded his return and the release of a militia leader.
Analysts believe President Ashraf Ghani sanctioned his return to try to shore up support among Uzbeks ahead of presidential election scheduled for 28 September.
